Ya, that is a good house rule, pairing the shore BB with a unit.
Once your troops are ashore and inland, it isn’t a good idea to let those big guns keep blasting away blindy, as some of your own troops invarible get pounded too :-P

A few good responses so far. I will address most of them later, but suffice it to say, these FIRST TURN suggestions will keep you out of more trouble in the long run than trying some of the other hair-brained ideas that others are spouting.
Flexibiity is a cornerstone to any axium, and players of A@A know this all to well. My ideas are still flexable enough in round 2 to still keep any player out of trouble.
USA needs a carrier or BB, build them in round 2.
UK wants an IC, build it in round 2, when you know it is safe.
Russia wants to hold the line at the caucuses, do it in round 2, after reducing the German front line troops in round one.
And Jen has obviously run out of the good stuff and is hitting the Vanilla now. :-D -

The German fleets can be picked off piecemeal before they can combine their strengths, if they both run west that is. Still, luring all the Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine out to do battle, just decreases their numbers earlier than later. -

When it comes to strategies, I say, do what you want, but there are some moves that fit under one of two catagories;
Always do, and Never do.

R1 Attack the Ukraine! Build either a Sub, bomber, I.C. or Battleship.
Either straffe it or capture it. (EVER)
____________________________________________________________________________________________________G1 Attack and Capture Egypt. Build an Aircraft carrier, all tanks, or more than
Sink the UK ships in the Med. one aircraft in any ONE build phase.
Retake the Ukraine.
Take Karilia.
Build a minimum of 50% Infantry
(Every turn)
UK1 Counter-Attack in Egypt Build an Industrial Complex.
with everything that can reach. Evacuate either Egypt, India, or Australia
Invade Tunisia, heavy. without a fight.
J1 Sink the USA Fleet Build more than one Industrial complex/turn.
Capture China and Buryatria Leave your transports undefended.
Build up to 4 transports, minimum. Build more than 3 Industrial complexes per game.
USA1 Invade/reinforce Tunisia Build a Battleship!
Build 3 transports, 3 armor
and an Infantry, place all in
Eastern USA+ move the 2 Inf
from Central USA to Eastern USA.
All else after that is up to you depending on what your opponent does, and how well they do it.
But if you follow these few rules on the first turn, you will avoid a quick death at the very least.
Good luck, and good hunting! -

Russian bomber!!!
May as well go tech and get heavy bombers too! Deal out some real damage, to yourself
If you think you can win with Russia giving up 3 tanks=9 attack/defence points, or 5 infantry=5 attack points/10 defence points for 1 Bomber=4 attack points/1 defence point! Then I want to play you. I could use an easy win for a change.
Now go look in the mirror, and say to yourself, stupid stupid stupid, and slap yourself silly. And promise yourself you will never post again when you are drunk. If I had my way, Russian bombers would not even be on the units list. same goes for Russian Battleships. OK, don’t anyone confess that they have ever built a Russian Battleship or I’ll come over there and slap you myself!

RE: UK Fighter to attack Japan's Trn (59)posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Always, always, always counter Egypt with everything that can reach.
Never, never, never let Germany get entrenched in Africa.
Yes, you can eventually get Africa back, but letting Germany get extra production IPCs out of it at little or no cost of units is strategically unsound. :wink:Note: see my new post; Always Never

A prebid fighter in Finland/Norway to go after that BB Tran and Rus sub though, now that has merit! 2 fighters, a bomber and the atlantic sub, and there should be no UK navy anywhere around Europe, really peaks my interrest. :-o
But nobody is crazy enough to give me 10 bid. -

A clear sea zone can always be entered on a non-combat movement phase.

RE: Carrier Based Fightersposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition

Seems to me, what Jennifer wants to get the OK opinion of this group is to do what we call in the Navy, a; Cross Deck Operation, or more commonly called, Cross Decking. That is when two task forces meet up and they swap units with the other task force. This can be completed usually within a 24 to 48 hour time period, depending on the amount of units that have to be swapped out. This is well within the time frame of a game turn, and since there is nothing in the rules that specifically addresses this issue, then I say go with what is perfectly resonable to do.
That is my vote, if I have one that is. -

I always pave the roads between the Japan sea and Russia with I.C.s!
Infantry Carcuses, that is :-D.
Really though, FIC, India, and Manchuria are your best bets, and I usually get them all built before I lose the game. Or sometimes win.
I like to get the best bang for my buck, so I will eventually be cranking out nothing but tanks, and 9 tanks a turn, within 2 moves to Moscow is the kind of pressure I prefer to put on old Stalin. -

I really don’t understand how people get into games ike this :?
You need to be aggressive all the time, especially as the axis.
I played a game recently, and I admit in 20+ years of playing, is a first for me, at the end of the Japanese first turn there would have been only a Russian flak gun in Moscow! Everything else, Russian was gone! The Allied player of course quit before I could even finish G1.
Attack attack attack! Then reap the rewards. -
RE: Rule clearificationposted in Axis & Allies Classic
Addressing the FlaK guns issue, according to the rules;only one gun may fire, no matter how many guns you have in a territory.
On a personal note, my flaK guns never hit, so I think this rule should not exist. If you want to go to the expense, and put 4 Flak Guns in a territory, then you should be able to fire them all!
Just be sure to put in some ear plugs in before you do, because the noise will be deafening! :-o
No, not the little toy guns, from the crying of your opponent when you shoot down all their planes. :-PCrazy Ivan

So, the card game “WAR” has come to A@A!
I agree that it sucks to lose 2 or 3 vital and expensive planes to FlaK in one attack, but since my FlaK usually never hits at all, it kinda makes up for it when it happens to my opponent. :lol:I was thinking that there was a set of 6 cards; 1 through 6, and for every enemy plane that flew over the gun you randomly drew a card, (for every set of up to 6 enemy planes that fly over). Then turn over the cards, if the 1 card is there, you got a hit!
An example of an attack of more than 6 planes
8 planes fly over/attack: the first 6 planes suffer an auto hit, because you would draw all 6 cards
for the last two planes, shuffle the deck and draw two random cards, if the “1” card is drawn, you got a second hit!
What do you think? :| -

The nice thing about this game is creating some of your own nifty houserules. Just try to not get too off balance, and the game should still be fun for everyone.
Look in the houserules section for more great ideas!
Happy Gaming :-D
