    • RE: Question: Eastern Front, 1943

I have to agree with IL on this one too. Unfortunately, victory in the East was out of reach by 1943, so it would have been best to cut your losses and withdraw to a more defendable, and shorter line, using major rivers, mountains, and the Pripet marshes as obsticles to the enemies advance.
And build lots of Stug III’s for counter attacks! They are cheaper than the big tanks, but still pack a wicked punch.

I did try this in a game and lost badly to the germans. Japan even made a comeback in Asia, takiing both the factories you mentioned. So, I do not reccomend this Strat.

    • RE: What would you do with a 1 Trn Bid to JAV/SZ37?

Truely, the options are many from this position, and all have merit. But I find getting the Australia and NZ IPCs asap is most benificial due to the fact that there is less likelyhood of a counter-attack here, so for the other fronts additional forces should be brought to bear in later turns.

Personnally, I have been buying the Transport for Japan lately, and putting it in with the Japan fleet. From there, I invade and capture Hawaii on J1. Doing so, destroys the 3rd of five USA fighters prior to USA1, (if China is also taken).
There will be no counter-attack on the Japanese fleet off of Hawaii, and the next turn you can land your bomber in Hawaii and start bombing the USA west coast! Also, keeping a transport or 2 in Hawaiian waters plus the troops in Hawaii will force the USA to keep extra troops on the west coast and Alaska. That is less troops moving to Europe or Africa as early as usual. A turn or two of delay is a good thing for Germany.

First of all, the Russian Navy was no picnic either. I think there was no place safe in the USSR, If the Germans didn’t shoot at you then the NKVD did!

Germany/Europe was a war zone for 7 years. Airial bombings day and nite, The brutal Eastern Front that swollowed up millions of men, women and children, Partizans that struck deep within subdued regions without warning. the roundup of tens of millions of Jews, and other unwanted peoples, such as gypsies, political rivals and the guys with the pretty wives that the gystapo agents were lusting after. Just no safe place to be IMHO.

UK after the Blitz, ya maybe for awhile, then the boys were off to north africa, Sicily, and the beaches of Normandy.

Japan. since it was a great honor to die in the service of the Emperor in battle, I think that is just a one way ticket strategy, to seek self destruction.

USA, safe anywhere Stateside, but set sail, and right off the bat enemy subs were a constant threat. It only got worse from there. Pub fights in Picadilly, rows in resturants in Paris, pizza food fights in Rome, Island hopping in the Pacific, VD, and a myriad of other very unpleasant diseases, some recoverable due to the recent discovery of pennecillan.

In summery, in wartime, there is no place safe. Don’t believe me, just look in recent history to New York city and Washington DC on 9/11 a mere 7 years past.  :x
      Just my 3c worth.

Hmm, if you add the bid option of the atlantic sub, and take out the UK BB in SZ2 with the 2  atlantic subs, the bomber and the Norway fighter, then put your 2 baltic subs in SZ6, that just might hold the door open for the invasion.
I probibly should playtest this first, but it certainly would help.

77% of voters feel that the russian fighter is more important than any other item on the list! So let’s agree that not everyone agrees all he time, but 77% of these voters disagee with Gen most of the time. :-P

The post says neutral teritory. He can’t even answer his own post correctly, geez
Anyway, I pick the Sahara desert, otherwise Germany would take Africa too easily and too quickly, and that much income that early would be a much tougher road for the allies to compete with.

The transports move on the combat phase, the troops unload for free and attack Western Europe on the same combat phase.

      :-)
      All great replies!
except for df, he obviously didn’t read the instructions properly, again. No picking capitals, Russia is a capital, check your board again df. I know, it’s been like forever since you’ve played and sometimes old people forget things, (patting df on bald head) now take your pills and have a nice nap while the rest of us go out to play.  :-P
Sorry to pick on ya df, but I’m seeing the surgeon today and I needed to poke at somebody, and, well, you were there, so thanks.  :-)
If you guys don’t hear back from me, it means:

      Russia is not worthless!
      Shiftless maybe, but not worthless.
Besides, if Japan has Russia, it often will also have the Caucasus, and those 2 combined are worth more than your precious Germany  :-P

I never saw that progam on TV, but at the least, if the allies did continue the war in Europe and redirected the offensive to South France it certainly would not have been in 44, posibly would have been in 45 but most likely 46. By then, Russia could have been pushed back to the Urals!
