Oh come on Jennifer, tell us how you really feel. :?
Not that it could have happened mind you, but if the Axis had conqured the Soviet Union, all of Asia, the sub-contenent and All of Africa, I can see the UK and USA sueing for peace.

Congrats to you and your lovely wife! My oldest is 22 now and I can still remember when we found out she was on the way, the day she came into the world, ( a C-Section) and the day she moved back into the house, (but that is a different story I’ll share later).
I have 3 grown children, all good gamers. That is my contribution to the world.
Honestly though, these are the days of magic and wonder. Take lots of pictures of every moment, ( good ammunition later) and get some, no, a lot of gaming in now cuz you won’t be able to after the baby arrives. :-o

For those who are interrested in seeing good movies covering the Eastern Front, see “Enemy at the Gates” and “The Iron Cross”. Also There was a TV series on the “Great Patriotic War” I think was broadcast on KPBS.
For realism in combat, I about jumped under my seat when Forrest Gump and his Viet Nam buddies were ambushed in the jungle. :-o and then almost cooked by our own Napalm. Also, I liked Apocolipse Now, for it shows how insane war can get, (and because I was almost in the movie). Another crazy war movie was, “Catch 22”, (not for kids).
My favorite WWII themed movie has to be, “Das Boot”. In the original german with english sub-titles. My stomach was in knotts after that one. :-P
IMHO,The old classic movies are all pretty good, but the modern special effects make the latest movies a much better show.
OK, who’s bringing the Popcorn?

RE: Japan invading Brazil - An option?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
:-o
As the Axis player, ( in a KGF game) I push my Japnese fleets both east and west and meet up in the South Atlantic, taking Brazil unless it is heavily defended, ( less troops in Africa). It really messes with the Allies convoy system to Europe, forcing them to beef up their Atlantic naval forces to deal with this threat. Usually ends with a great big naval battle in the north Atlantic!
For me, it forces the USA to retake territory, slowing up their European campaign, which gives Germany more time to beef up its’ defenses. Also, Japan gains more IPC! -

It really doesn’t matter which strategy the allies plan to persue, the UK must try to sink that transport in sz 59 on UK 1. Send the fighter after it, that should be enough. I usually land it in China. It usually dies there, but it often takes out one or two Jap infantry. Which means I usually hold Sinkiang longer with less commitment from Russia, which helps the Russians hold out the Germans longer. This gives the Americans another turn or two to funnel troops overseas …… you get the picture.
Kill the damn thing, it’s just sitting there asking for it anyway. -
RE: Nit picky German Economizerposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition

The only reason I would blitz all the way to Archangel would be to cause the allies to pull troops off into that territory and divert them from other more critical areas, such as Africa or the Caucuses. The - 3 or -1.5 in trade off may well be worth the movement of 3 or more times that much of allied units into a backwater position for a turn or two which may well pay off by being able to control more profitable realestate elsewhere for a longer period of time.
As the Russian player, I never leave Leningrad undefended to avoid having to retake Archangel. There are no freebies if I can help it.
That’s my 2c worth on this topic. -

Umm Ya, The allies deserve to win if the Axis has all those troops and can’t properly defend their Victory cities. Just suck it up to a learning game and reset the board. It’s a GAME!
Geeze!!!
Either have a house rule; “Germany gets one round to redeam itself” or, play to 10 VC. Then it should be pretty well decided.
and they call me Crazy. -
RE: Nit picky German Economizerposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I always play with the theory that,
“Your best defense, is a damn good Offense!”
Not a foolish offense, but a well calculated strategy, that intices your opponent to stick his neck out, again and again to take out those 3 infantry pickets so you can crush their remnants with rebuilds next turn. makes for a fun game too, Attack, attack, attack! (wait, that’s another game).
But anyway, Germany has to keep the pressure on Russia for as long as possible to help Japans growth. Then Japan can save their butt in the end. -
RE: How to deal with Allied beach head in Norway?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I agree with D.Fox. Keep the pressure posed at Russia, but stay positioned to crack back on EE with an assault from Germany if the Allies go heavy into EE. If you can crush them, and reinforce your remnants with Japanese fighters and an AA gun you can deliver them a serious blow that will take them several turns to recover from. Turns that Russia will really sweat as japan builds up on their doorstep. Be sure to defend Germany well in the meantime.
Good luck. -

I think that the hardest thing for most people is that the breakthrough tanks have the ability to conquer a huge amount of real estate. But, more than likely, they will be destroyed by a counter-attack next turn anyway. So there is the trade-off, a temporary delay in the territory for the loss of a tank unit.

RE: Russian Fightersposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Until I actually try this radical new idea, I can’t really dis-credit it. But it seems to me that Russia should build as much Infantry as they can in the early turns to try and hold back the Germans and the Japanese from gaining too much territory too fast. Two fighters is equal to 5 infantry and a tank! In the attack, that is 5 chances at a “1” die roll and one chance at a “3” or less in the attack. And, in the defense; it is 5 rolls at a 2 or less and one at a “3” or less. Not to mention it is 6 units to take hits verses the 2 units of fighters. Four more casualties for Russias’ survival is a good thing.
Sounds like you want some long range punch power to support a KJF strategy while still having some good defense against the German attacks. But I think that tanks can serve you much better because you can buy 2 of them for one fighter. Two “3s” in the attack verses only one for the price of 10 IPC is the only way to go for a poor Nation like Russia. “More bang for the buck” as my Ole pappy used to say.
That’s my 2 rubels worth.

RE: Another German Navy Openerposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition

Seems I’m behind the curve on this thread, it has morphed from the original subject a bit. But everyone seems to have forgotten about the RUSSIAN sub? It can easily block the germans from dashing out of the med on G2 to attack the left over Britts off of the Brittany coast. I worked this out on an earlier thread when I suggested a bid-build buy of a sub to be placed in the mid-Atlantic. In that scenario, Germany would have had 4 subs, DD and a Transport in sz6! But without the threat of the BB and transport from Gibralter, in a counter-attack, the Britts wiped out my re-inforced Baltic fleet. Their build of a carrier+fighter and a transport went in with the BB to keep my luftwaffe in their hangers or go looking for easier targets. :|
My Germany Navy builds are a bid-buy of a transport in the Med followed by a regular buy of a 2 transports in the Baltic. This makes it much riskier, (and possibly rewarding) for the Britts to attack any of Germanys fleets on UK1. Germany needs to bring its’ Atlantic sub to the attack of the British Med BB with the german BB and Transport and invade Gibralter, thus removing that landing field. Reinforce Algeria with armor, inf, and fighters, to keep the Britts out is also very important.
The big ? is how far should Germany go with this strategy? What is your goal? Delay or Superiority in the Med/Atlantic. It is really up to the individual player after all.

I have played many many games as well, and I fully understand where Jenn is coming from. The calculations of averages for certain of our units is etched in our minds by repeated, (disappointing) actions! I too loose more IPC when trying to strat bomb. So I quit doing it altogether. And my transports shoot down more planes than my AAA every time. My fighters as well suck worse than my tanks, so I rarely buy them either.
I feel your pain Jenn, so I try to only play LL on TripleA with no tech. I’ve had much more enjoyable games since LL came along. Too bad we can’t use it in tourneyments.

Admiral, I have given your project additional thought. And I wonder if you considered using the cardboard counters and placing an appropriate figure on the top of the stack? ie; A tank on top of a stack that has at least one armor unit in it, etc… -
RE: Czech this scenario…posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition

Answering the original Question, I think that UK should place the IC in South Africa.
To better balance the game, I like the idea of Russia starting with not only Singkiang, (2 inf + 1 Art) but also with both West Russia and the Ukraine. all with 2 inf and 1 artillery. As far a the 2 USA inf in Singkiang, bump them to China. The German forces that need a new home can be placed one per territory that Germany occupies, by the German player. As Russia, I would go fort the Siberian railroad right off. And, not allow the Siberian peace treaty at all.
Who would fall first? I think that the UK is the weakest link innitially, and will be throughout the game. I would go after them.
Call Germany+Russia the “Minsk Pact” and the others the “Allegence of Athority” It’s something different anyway.
Good luck with your game, and let us know how you liked it.

RE: Hypothetical German 1 Moveposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I would move normally, except that I would also take the Caucuses.
I have only played on TripleA, so I can’t compare it with other ‘on line’ systems.
Concerning the NA and tech advantages, it seems pretty clear that a nation can pretty well gear themselves to a victory with the right combination of advantages, if their opponent, (especially a newbee) fails to know just what the counter NA or techs are.
:-D I think I have a good solution, but wait , I have to do my copyright first.
I don’t mind sharing ideas with everyone, but when it comes to a lot of hard work by me and my partner, (my wife) well work should be compensated, play should be free. If anyone disagrees, then you probibly don’t understand the concept of free enterprise, supply and demand, and that the mother of invention is the need for something better.
And besides, I am in dire need of some extra income.
Anyway, I hope you will consider my project with an open mind.
Respectfully,C.I. :-o
