Subs rule!
Just wish I could afford to buy more for Germany.
I playtested a strat in the on-line gaming on the TripleA site where I defended Western Europe and bought an IC there on G2. The whole purpose of the IC in western Europe was to place subs in the 3 adjacent sea zones as needed! Specifically to keep UK from loading up troops and going into the Baltic to invade. It also played havoc in the western Med for allied shipping there as well.
Really competant allied players, with a great amount of patience usually overcame this expensive defensive strat. But others were so frustrated by it, that they usually capitulated by turn 7 or 8. :-D -
RE: Countering Operation Sea Lionposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Actually, I did suffer a sealion invasion once. Germany lost all its’ planes and an Inf, leaving it’s tank.
the two UK BBs sank the invasion fleet, and with the Russian sub, blocked any further attempt to retake on G2.
USA liberated London.
Germany lost more IPCs than they gained; Baltic fleet, 5 fighters, bomber, tank and inf.
I won the game, somewhere around round 8 as I recall.
Germany just could not counter very well with no Luftwaffe. And Germanys turn one buys were so small for land units that Russia was able to go on the offensive by R3. :-D -
RE: Some questions about the board-game rulesposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
:-)
I think that they have answered all your questions fairly well, so all I wish to add is that this game is easy to learn how to play, but will take many many games to master it. If you can play chess, monopoly, risk, and deplomacy, all at the same time, then this is your game! Remember, this is a game, not a reinactment of, (a diplomatic-military) history. Trying to play historically is not advised, if you really want to win that is.
But as you already have found out, it is fun and addictive!
Good hunting, and good luck!

I had a couple guys do this to me in a tourney of A and A many years ago. Long before the Lord of the rings movies were made, but having just read the book, they reminded me of Golumn. So I started argueing with myself, loud enough for them to hear. They said it was distracting and asked me if I would cut it out. I said that I would be glad to, just as soon as they did. They got the message, and played their own turns from then on. In fact, it was a VERY quiet game after that. -

I don’t have much of that either.
seems like someone got hollared at about keeping those damn dice quiet if you have to play that damn game all nite long :-D.
But yes, that seems like it would work just as well. -
RE: So how does online play work?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Yes, for smoothe play, it is best that both of you use tripleA. That way, when you send them your file, they can open it and play their turn, save their turn and send it back to you. Quick, Easy, and Done.

wow NPB you sure got a lot to say on this subject. And you say it so elequently! Even a numbnut like me can almost understand it all. :|
My veiws on this, (as if anyone cares) is that Germany has to grab as much as possible for two or three turns, while building mostly infantry and some atillery, wit ha tank or two thrown in for good measure. Then, unless Russia has bleed itself whit, Turtle up and wait for Japan to save their Nazi butts.
You got to roll with the punches, there is no hard fast rule to victory.
Just keep playing and learning from mistakes, both yours and theirs.
Good luck and good huntingOff topic, NPB, do you ever play on the tripleA ladder anymore?

The Russian front was the worst place to fight in all the world wars. The bitter weather, and the staunch fighting, took a heavy toll on all the desperate men and women who struggled to survive there. Far too many people vanished there. All for naught. What a terrible waste of lives and meterial. Are you a member of the modern "Alpini "Corps?

Just go to TripleA and the program does everything for you. Eveen has a weak AI for beginners to beat up on while you learn the mechanixs of the game. Best Axis and Allies engine on the net! bar none. :-D -
RE: CSubP19 - Why good players SHOULD get bad diceposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition

I am supposing that the luck factor being discussed is as it it affects the attacker, and not the defender.
Long charts of info on die results hide one factor, and that is how much one decisive battle can change the whole course of the game should it go real bad in the first round of combat.
I’ve seen more than my share of winning games turn around on one throw of the die.

8-)
I agree 90% with you NPB.
Only differance with my strategy is to build my first of two complexes in FIC on J3. followed by my second complex in Manchuria on J4.
India has proved to be too risky if the USA goes all out in the Africa Shuck-shuck, so I rarely put that factory in anymore. Also, I’ve had Russian players go after it with left over UK forces if they have been doing well in Eastern Europe.
Of course if the allies go after Japan first, then building complxes is not on my agenda until I can either neutralize or destroy the allied fleets. -

The secret for Germanys survival is two-fold.
First; what you build, (including the bid buy).
second; the amount of pressure that can be brought to bear on the Russians.
I typically buy only cheap ground units for the first couple of turns. Mostly Inf, but a few artillery and a tank or two, for couter attacks is essential.
Egypt on G1 is critical. I’ve tried just about everything you can think of, but none are as important as taking Egypt with as much as you can get in there, so all my bid goes against it. I try to have at least 3 armor and 3 inf survive the assault. I leave my atlantic sub where it is and put my 3 or 4 fighters with my inf and art in Tunisia to delay the Britts from going into Africa on UK1. The sub also prevents an invasion of western Europe on UK1, so I can grab the inf in W.E. with the baltic transport to Karilia, and run the armor there over to Eastern Europe for G2 counter-attacks against Russian aggression on R2.
The delaying tactics with subs are sound moves, and should be considered in the mid to late game as well. I have played several games where I build an IC in western Europe on G2. From there I can launch subs to prevent the UK from loading troops in either the baltic, English channel, western Med. or the sea zone west of Western Europe! This has greatly frustrated several very good players to no end, causing them to make mistakes that I capitalized on! So that even when I was pushed back into Europe, I was able to hold onto the big income territories while I waited for Japan to smash into Russia.
Of course, a lot of what you can do will depend on the die results, but if Germany can be patient, and build up strong defenses, (large inf stacks) early, then it just might hold on long enough to see Russia fall. I also think that Germany should be on the look out for any opportunity to strike a serious blow to any allied units that get to far without support, but never leave yourself open to a risky allied attack on Berlin.
Well, that is enough for now, Good luck, and Happy gaming. :-D -

Thanks Amon-Sul. I dabble in poety. It was late and I didn’t edit this one, so it is pretty rough, but I got my point across I think.
Ohh you shouldn’t have explained moving smiles, now I’m gonna play with em.
