Anything special for me to do so the slaughter of my Allied troops can begin?  Which version of TripleA do we use?  This is my first Play By Forum game, do I just use my user/pass for the board to sign-on.

I like the bomber for Russia…  Just have a coin flip and not worry about the Allied bid.

I like the bomber bid for Russia…  Seems like a nice addition to the first attack.

Add me in…  I have not played a complete game against a person.  Each time we try to play, whiskey happens, lake house happens, lots of beer happens and there is nothing after 3 turns.

black_elk has a lot of great advice.  i watched the replay against the computer where Russia lost badly.  what i saw was a total reverse where Germany got totally screwed.  Actuatlly, I think he knew of a bug in the AI which he could exploit.  There were times that I would have gone for the chance to take Russia however Germany AI just doesn’t work…

I would like to play Allies with Russian bomber…  this game is all about dice.  Why is it that when I play Axis, i’m totally lost and have no clue as to my offensive?

I’m terrible…  Put me in for some fodder…  I like the idea of giving Russia a bomber and don’t use the bid.

BTW.  I get stomped by the hard AI.  I just don’t get it…

    • RE: Strafing Sea Zone 37 (Indian Ocean) on Turn 1?

It seems like a good idea and if you play low luck, then UK will end up with a cruiser left.  This assumes the G1 did not take out the fighter in Egypt and everything was brought to bear against the BB, CAR and 2 FIG.  2 CRU, 2 FIG, CAR, SUB has the ability to hit really hard, it also has the ability to hit really light and then leave anything built in India totally vulnerable.  I’ve done this against the AI and the first time I did it, it worked out great.  Every other time, it was a total loss by UK.  The BB of Japan, to me, basically removes the 2 FIG from the equation.  The odds don’t look so good anymore.

If the strafe fails, the navy will get hit hard by what Japan has in the area.

Of course, when it works it is great.  The problem is that when it doesn’t, the allies are in a worse situation than they started.

    • RE: Matching your Purchases to your Playing Style – Land, Sea, Air

Interesting idea on turning this into a f(x).  The only problem that I have with this is that each turn, which is based upon a random dice roll, significantly changes the outcome of the game.  Chess, checkers, tic-tac-toe are totally deterministic and do not rely on the randomness of the dice.  As soon as you come up with a good implementation of the “maybe” instruction, it will work.  At that point, us humans will be redundant and AAA will be a minor thing to consider.

Back on track; this is something very important to consider and probably why I totally suck at this game.  I just don’t seem to “get” it and no matter how many times I play the computer, I am always reacting instead of acting which means that I’m toast.

I’m a decent chess player, yet I absolutely stink at AAA.  HELP!

How about the Bid for Russia?  1 Bomber…  It does attack and allow for an additional replay in Egypt…

Not my idea.  Black Elk mentioned it as a valid startup.

    • RE: All the German openings: For Beginners

I really haven’t played this game much however my only opinion for Germany is to buy infantry and artillery at least equal to what Russia buys.  Russia can have a very nasty first move however as stated before, the attack power on many locations is really devastating.

I played Allies vs TripleA because I thought I would be able to beat it easily, like 1942 Spring 1st.  This game plays totally different.  When I play Axis, Russia STOMPS Germany with very limited losses.  When I play Russia against the German Computer, the dice work out as expected.  Maybe a little less than expected, because I, like all dice players, get much worse than average rolls.  Backgammon convinced me of this; I had players to the 1/36 rolls to beat me and yes, it does happen more than 1/36.  Or, maybe we just think that.

I understand that the TripleA Japan is totally lost; I watched the save games and after that, I saw no reason to abuse the AI.  Straight up against Germany, Russia is in trouble vs the AI.

Still trying to convince a friend that this game is even worth playing;  Of course, Russia hits the less than 10% roll each time I play him.  Very Frustrating for that to happen EVERY time.

Can you setup a TripleA tournament for those players that would like to get schooled and don’t live in the area?

    • RE: The UK raid on 37

I’ve done this vs the Hard AI in Triple A and the first time, I ended up with a Cruiser left which is about what was expected.  Every other time that I’ve tried it, it has ended up a total loss by Britain.  Yeah, I know the odds and that is what is frustrating.  I thought it would be a good idea for a strafe attack so you could retreat the entire navy back to India.  That went belly up as well.  The problem is that the 3 4’s seem to hit more often than the 4 3’s.

It’s a little bit like the multi-territory attack by Russia; it looks good on paper and when it works, it’s great however when it goes badly it really puts the Allies in a worse position that they started.

It would probably work against me…  Since I, like everyone else, get worse than average rolls…  :-o

    • RE: Game unbalanced?

Ok, it’s official…  I have not a clue how to play this game.  I took Axis vs Hard AI Allies and after two moves, the Axis are in trouble.  Ignore the fact that Germany lost West Russia and Baltic without a single loss by Russia.  After 2nd Russian turn, Caucasus has 15 inf, 4 art, 5 arm and 2 aa.  Even buying 9 inf (1 car for fun), Germany has insufficient fodder to hold Ukraine.

I have a feeling that the live game I played had a fair number of pieces that were misplaced due to the whiskey involved.

I must really place my pieces poorly because I am never in a position where I can trade a territory without losing ground.  One step forwards, two steps backwards. :?  I have no patience and end up spreading my pieces out so they can be picked off or not used together very well.

    • RE: Game unbalanced?

Started my first live game and we didn’t get into it too far before the whiskey rendered us unable to do minor math.   I went for the 6 art and all (left 1 inf behind in Kar/Cau each) into West Russia, Germany followed with a carrier build and infantry.  Britain went for 2 fighters, 2 art, 1 inf.  japan went transports and Manchuria factory.  America went carrier, 2 destroyers and 2 subs in the pacific.  Even with the money Germany spent on the carrier, after round 2 the Germans are putting very high pressure on West Russia because their second round purchase was all infantry.  Ukraine is pretty much untouchable at this point.  Germany also moved the infantry out of finland/norway into Karelia.  Britain was able to kick Germany out of Africa however got diced in the process (4 inf, 1 art, 1 fig, 1 bmb, 1 arm vs 2 inf 1 arm 1 art) which took two rounds to win and the Germans only missed once.  Japan stacked all their infantry into China.

I don’t think it looks bad however I think I should have gone for the Atlantic build since now Germany can hit several areas with a pretty large navy however only two transports means it’s an empty threat.  Unfortunately, we didn’t play past the Britain 2nd turn.

How in the world do you stop the infantry push by Germany when they stack all of their tanks and fighters into Ukraine?  A strafe would be suicide since their units would be at maximum defensive ability.  Caucasus is going to fall soon and West Russia right behind it.  I’m looking at the map trying to figure out what I’ve done wrong.  Russia was feeling brave in the second round and bought 2 arm, 2 inf and 2 art  however I almost think the extra infantry would be a better choice.  I just don’t see how trading territories with a few infantry is even an option.  This is a battering ram!  The four fighters from Britain will help however in one more move, Germany will push another dozen infantry to the front line and Russia/Britain will need to figure out an exit strategy.

    • RE: All the Russian openings: For Begginers

Cool…  these are great openings.  I hope to use them this weekend when I will get my first live game against my friend that says no way the Allies can win.  I plan on building 3 arm for the Brits and go for a full KJF strategy to take the high IPC islands.  Of course, I fully expect him to destroy the USA fleet which puts a significant damper on this strategy.  How about some openings for USA?  In my opinion, they are one of the most difficult to play because it takes them so long to be able to bring any sort of presence to the battlefield.  Or how to have the Allies play as a single team and use their 1-2-3 punch against the Axis (Germs are the only real viable option)…

      Thanks!

Ok…  a few shots of good whiskey into it and I am wondering what fun it is when you have every possible counter already figured out.  I need to read the PEBM rules and get owned by someone.

How do you start a game?
