I tried to get my friends to play this game; we played the original AA and the shuck shuck. Not fun when nothing you try even works. thanks Inno… I’m done with this stupid game.

RE: Craykirk (Axis) vs. Inno (Allies + 1 bomber) game 01
I quit… You win… There is no way to recover from the 4 bombers and 6 fighters that lose against the allied force. Losing when you have an advantage is why I quit playing this game. Everytime i play, I get screwed… Not any fun to have dice screw you… thanks for the lesson.

Good One… I had my bombers out of position and lost them on the raid. The original plan was to use them against the navy before that happened…

I never really considered throwing fighters vs infantry as it just seems foolhardy… Of course, I’ve never won a game playing either side.

Jeez… lost two bombers on Industrial Raids and caused total damage of 5. So much for the bomber strategy…

RE: Yet Another Submarine Clarification Needed
Exactly… Each round of combat occurs at the same time. So, surprise strikes happen on the same turn. Attacking/Defending rolls are a single turn. Surprise attack/defend are simultaneous. Unless there is a destroyer present which negates the surprise for the opposite side. Note that the destroyer must be on the attacking side to make a difference. A defending destroyer can be any allied ownership. The defender gets the benefit of the doubt in this situation. As the rules state for attackers, only those units owned by the attacker participate in the battle however all defending units participate regardless of ownership unless explicitly stated and this only applies to submarines that can submerge.
-
RE: Yet Another Submarine Clarification Needed
If this helps, as far as I understand it…
Sneak attack happens only if a defending destroyer is not present. Otherwise, normal rules apply.
- Submarine hits must be taken on sea units only, so you can apply the two hits any way you want.
- Again, you can apply the retaliation sneak attack anyway you want to the sea units.
- The submarines are always ‘seen’ unless they decide to submerge which means they are out of the battle completely.
Submarines that have not submerged can be taken as casualties at any point. The sneak attack does not make them disappear. Casualties taken during the sneak attack, with the exception of defending submarines, do not get to return fire.
The destroyer simply disables the special sneak attack and submerge abilities of the submarine and allow air units to hit the submarine as well. A destroyer also prevents a submarine from simply moving through an enemy controlled sea zone as it must stop and engage the destroyer.
The sneak attack happens as the first phase of each round of battle. There can be situations where a destroyer prevents a sneak attack early in the battle, is destroyed and then the sneak attack is back for the next round of combat.
You could have a situation where the attacker has a destroyer and submarines and the defender does not have a destroyer present. In this situation, I believe the attacker gets the sneak attack and any units hit do not get to retaliate if they are sunk. A battleship taking a single hit will get to retaliate in the normal defending roll.

RE: Rule question about tank movement
However, as part of the combat move and the tank is blitzing a territory with no units/industrial complex, the tank may move to an adjacent territory. This could even be the territory it came from. So, it can in certain instances.
-
RE: Allies Strategy
I sent the other fighter to Egypt as protection. I did hit Baltic as well hoping to eliminate a tank and slow the march to Karelia. Never seen it or ever considered doing it however it makes sense to do it considering how the odds get worse as Russia can continue to reinforce and threaten Germany. Add fighters from Brit/USA and it almost becomes imperative. I haven’t really found a good way to counter unless Ukraine is hit. Allowing Germany to stack West Russia pretty much ensures a quick game.
-
RE: Allies Strategy
Download TripleA and install. Start a game so the savegames folder is in the TripleA folder of your downloads. You can then download the save game and load into TripleA and look at the history of the moves. I might have hit Baltic and gotten less than optimal (don’t we all) rolls in West Russia. Either way, if you don’t hit Ukraine, then those infantry and any tanks within range can also hit West Russia. It would have helped if one of the two AA had hit however, I seem to only roll 1’s when I am doing a bombing raid on an industrial complex… ;)
-
RE: Allies Strategy
I think that Russia must attack Ukraine because if they do not, Germany can throw everything at West Russia in a 50-50 battle which will deplete Russia. In my first, and only game in the tournament, I got average dice against Germany and played it safe by attacking West Russia only. Germany hit with everything that could get there and the result was a total loss of ground troops by both forces. Germany was able to retreat without loss of fighters. Take a look at S01 Cow vs Craykirk in the tournament listings for what can happen.
The allies have to be patient and wait until they can force the Axis to start trading expensive pieces that they cannot afford to replace. It all depends on how the dice go in the first round.
Of course, I have no idea how to play the game and lose no matter which side I take. I tried a bomber bid for Russia and it failed miserably…
I have much to learn, evidently…

RE: Summer/Fall Spring 42.2E Tournament Discussion/Results Thread
Ok… I was waiting for another game. I should have read the rules better as I would not have quit after getting diced on a 55-45 roll in the first round. I was hoping to learn something and didn’t really get much of a chance.

Is this a single elimination tournament? My game was over after the first turn. Is the tournament over?
