    • RE: IL's New Global 1940 map file…

      The boys at this site have two different versions of their game (basic and advanced) that can satisfy your need for more territories.

      http://www.ww2wargame.com/

      Here is a link to the Europe half of the advanced map:

      http://www.ww2wargame.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=302.0;attach=1957

      Attached is a low res version of the the basic games’ full map.

      The different colors in territories represent terrain features which give different defensive values along with other rule limitations.

      I wanted to go, but the “social secretary” has other plans for me.

      I will be sending along a couple of dice towers for Greg to raffle off, so all isn’t lost.  Enjoy!!!

      WOW!!!

      I had never seen the images from last year’s event .  That is a nice gathering of players and games (though I could do without the group shot- what a motley crew!!!).

      Plus, the smattering of Yope dice towers never hurts any picture. :lol: :wink: :mrgreen:

      Didn’t think about this until today, but I just remembered that the weekend gaming convention of the gaming group at Western Michigan University is usually this time of year.  I looked it up and see that it was earlier this year than it normally is.

      Marmalade Dog 18 will take place February 8-10.

      http://www.marmaladedog.org/

      They usually have some kind of A&A game play going on the whole weekend.  Food for thought for next year.

      Late Sept. is a good call.  It has me grinding the ole gray matter on how to make it happen. :mrgreen:

      DJensen- Check out DTW and let me know.

      Then I just might be persuaded to actually drive up.  It’s a 3.5 - 4 hr drive from my area.  That is IF there isn’t any traffic in TO.  But there always is!!!

      That also means you would have to spend a certain amount of time with me in a closed environment.  A scary thought to be sure. :-o

      All that though would be dependent on the date chosen.  August is out for me, so keep that in mind.

      It would also depend on the date.  As I said in the other thread, the first week of August is WBC out in Lancaster, PA.

      Going to another event in August is problematical.  Plus, it will be tough for Djensen to make your event if you end up picking the weekend of August 15-18.  That is when Gen Con Indy 2013 happens and he has already stated that he is going to it.

      I would also think that anything near that would be tough for him unless you go the weekend prior and he just makes it an east coast, week-long roadie.

      I know my suggestion of an October weekend has issues too, specifically Canadian Thanksgiving.  I have always thought that Fall A&A Gathering would work around the Columbus Day weekend here in the states, but I do realize that it would then exclude the Canadian participation.

      Maybe a late September date (riding on the coattails of and/or working in conjunction with an Oktoberfest festival) would work better.  Just spitballing.

      Roman Sandal,

      If you are still looking for info on the WBC event, PM/email me.  I ran it for many years and came up with the VT scoring system.

      Thanks, but as I stated before I am not a big fan of the US border authorities.

      I have looked at hopping the VIA rail from Sarnia to Toronto and then jumping on the GO out to Oshawa.  Then I’ll make you come pick me up at the station. :wink:

      I leave the fishing to you! :-P

      Grew up on a lake and never liked fishing.  Swimming, waterskiing, ice skating, etc., but not fishing.

      @captain:

      I’m in Ft Wayne…where do you live now?

      Up near Port Huron, so that’s 4 hr. away.

      I need to get to Coldwater soon for a weekend project, but that doesn’t set me up well for playing A&A.  One day when I have a cottage there, then the gaming can begin!

      Are you in the Angola area?  I grew up in the Coldwater area (Rose Lake), but born in Fort Wayne.

      I know some players in the Toledo area that you might be able to hook up with.

      @Gargantua:

      Sounds like quite a game of A&A.  :)

      More like whack-a-mole, but replace the last part with a more appropriate term that rhymes with it. :wink:

      Compound?

      Is that where [redacted] has been keeping you for forum violations all these years? :P

      Actually, I was setting up my fields of fire and anti-personal mines for the day he tried to show up at my door. :-P

      @LHoffman:

      Yope is near Toledo? … Me too.

      No, I just visit there occasionally. :-o

      There are a couple of very good A&A players in the Toledo area that meet up with once in a while, though it has been a bit since that has happened.

      I can make it down to the border in approx. 1.5 hours from my “compound” in the Blue Water area.  All depends on the traffic in the city though. :roll:

      DJ- My wife drinks her share of beer, but despises IPA’s!  So if that’s the direction in American small beer culture, then she’s in trouble.

      If I come down to the Spring Gathering, I will bring you some Bell’s.  That is some good craft beer out of Kalamazoo, MI.  But you probably already know that.

      When I go out to WBC each year, I am drinking Yuengling.  A very good basic beer.  I used to bootleg ten to fifteen cases back each time, but it is now sold in Ohio so I don’t have to bring a bunch back at that time.  Just run down to Toledo and grab a small supply.

      Beyond that, I am usually a stout man.  The darker the better! :wink:
