      They are a backward bunch… when I posted the first X-DAP tourney (2012),  I went to their site and invited them to play in it, another A&A community, I thought it would be good to bridge the gap and expand our communities!

      I got insta and perma banned, and my thread deleted.  For daring to post a “for cash” tourney, which is a “forbidden act”.

      Good job Cow for showing them what for, and good to see you back here.

      Good stuff, more of this from you two guys PLEASE!.

      I assume you’re asking because you committed a carrier to pick it up.  If the carrier can still make it there, you must move it to get the fighter.

      I like your starting setup because it is flavorful, thoughtful, and sane, but there’s no way it favors the axis. If you are ever near San Francisco, I would bet $500 that I can beat you with this Allied setup (as in, I play the Allies every time) in at least 2 out of 3 low luck games.

      When the allies get nerfed about 100 ipc and seazone changes… you need luck for the allies and that is what I was hoping for.

      Argothir, I think that your point illustrates why cavalry are only likely to be useful in games using a d12 or d20 for combat.

      I know about those. I love them, but I meant a whole map redesign (example: China has 3 territories). That would be even cooler.

      TUV counting, making sure the allies start with a clear numbers, tuv, and income advantage to compensate for the drastic positional advantage. Axis quickly catch up in income and the ICs shift to the axis within the first 3 rounds.

      More importantly the axis now have to make decisions instead of having one best move to do.

      Even more importantly the allies have something to look forward to potentially within the first 3 rounds which typically saw a whole lot of nothing, which is a big reason people do not play this map.

      Still favors the axis to win. I like to play the axis so I am a little biased, I just hate to see the game won before it even begun.

      Counting TUV, expected losses after a variety of round 1 openers, KJF and KGF both need some viability the additional russian units are necessary for an even remote possibility of KJF, assuming a 6-9 bid for the allies.

      A heavily stacked axis map needed more to it going on many fronts. Kept the fun and minus the complete devastation. UK can sink Japan fleet by east indies with a sub bid and an infantry on egypt, the KJF becomes viable, at the same time, japan quickly catches up in income and can knock out india if it gets no support.

      Lots of Russian players like to do ukraine, the added artillery smooths it out, Germany has plenty to counter attack no problem, nothing drastic. Taking london with tech roll LRA on round 1 non sense is out of the picture, tech players rejoice, as if LRA is germany is not devastating enough, plus even a carrier in baltic seazone and air on france… forces a huge turtle buy from uk, mitigating some of that still makes the baltic fleet thing strong just not so overwhelming. Basically all the germany strategies need some kind of drawback or investment. Like you should have to work for Africa if you want it instead of just getting it. The high risk high reward battles still there, because it comes under the assumption of an allies bid, even if you play without one there is still something for the allies to look forward to.

      One of the key reasons this map is seldom played is because the allies really have nothing to look forward to for the first 3 rounds. So this just addresses that issue, it is still an axis favored map, the allies still have to make something happen, it is just they now have the tools to try to do something.

      The germany destroyer may get removed, I added it to make germany 1 a bit more dynamic instead of linear. Players would also send 2 subs to sink usa transports, baltic subs to sink uk bship, go for egypt or protect bship at gibraltar, it is all the same stuff, now you can yolo attack usa and have a pretty even fight, block usa from landing africa, 2 sub sink uk dd trans and 1 dd to hit the cruiser or use dd to sink bship sub from russia, there is more decision making.

      TL:DR More decision making for the axis instead of “this is the best option so I got to do this or I can risk this purchase if it does not work out oh well there will be no punishment anyway.”

      The Allies may indeed have problems getting numbers of units into Europe and Asia, but the whole reason they need to do this in the first place is because Russia has such woefully inadequate starting attack power!

      The Soviets can barely trade with Germany or Japan for 2 territories a turn, before they start hemorrhaging ground units in the process, forced to make terrible trades at a loss just to prevent Axis blitz paths or landing spots. This means that the Germans can advanced along a broad front, with only modest sized stacks, and Russia is totally unable to contest them.

      Instead, because they cant attack on their own, the Soviets are almost completely reliant on UK/USA to run direct counter attacks for them, against a relentless Axis advance. And this all happens in their own backyard, right in their own core Russian territories!

      And its not as if Russia collapses only when they receive zero aid from the West (which might be understandable) but they collapse when they don’t receive the full maximum aid. Like literally almost all the UK/US ipcs from the early rounds dedicated just to holding the center.

      The western Allies routinely send dozens of fighters and as many ground units as they can to prop up Moscow. And even then Moscow gets hammered.

      Honestly if I was designing this thing from the ground up, I’d give Russia an airforce on par with the other powers. Like 3 fighters AND a bomber. Or hell even 4 fighters AND a bomber!

      They’d still have the weakest starting airforce on the board.

      I just think its rather lame, that the Russians are so nerfed in A&A. It feels totally ahistorical.

      They had superior tanks to the Germans, even by the time this game is supposed to start, and yet it is the Germans who always tank drive. They had some the best fighter aircraft in the world by the time this game is supposed to start, and yet it is the Luftwaffe that always crushes. They had the numbers, and yet it is Germany who always pushes the massive ground stacks.

      It just doesn’t look like World War 2.

      The way the Royal Air Force is always camped out in Russia, and Monty is taking his tank columns on escapades through the Caucasus. For real?

      If you want their income so low, they should have starting TUV. Or conversely, if you want them to have low starting TUV, then give them more income. But if you shaft them in both areas, then the game turns into this weird deal, with the western Allies running the show in Red territories.

      The Russia design is just silly OOB. They have low income and as such will buy infantry and artillery as a matter of course, almost exclusively. They don’t need more inf, what they need is air power, so they can trade that infantry effectively, the way the other player nations do.

      I think a single additional Russian bomber is a decidedly modest expansion compared to what they should really have, if you want to reflect their historical position during this period.

      Just to say again, that I like this solution for G40.

      In the tripleA edit mode it only take a few moments.

      Just enable edit mode
      edit the “territory ownership” of Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina and Chile to USA
      click the neutral infantry and remove them, then “add units.” The default is American, since you already changed ownership.
      then “Change PUs” of America from 52 to 60 ipcs.

      Easy. It’s also fun to watch how the AI tries to make use of the new loot and the new units haha
      :-D

      Now that I have done a G1 dow… I really like it. I mean I am pretty sure I can get Russia on round 6 no matter what the allies do. Italy will get screwed into defending Europe.  It is still awesome to take Russia out of the picture.

      I might do G1 DOW more often, especially since I like to J1 DOW.
