      Hello all,

Recent viewer, new poster. Joined to gain broader knowledge and experience regarding Axis & Allies. I played Classic A&A for years, but set it aside until recently when it became a viable stepping stone for the newer/bigger versions of the game. Now my limited (3-4/yr) time is split between Classic and Global 40.

I recently obtained a print of Lt Dan’s version of Siredblood’s BBR map, and it inspired me to create a set of house rules regarding Minor Powers and accurately portraying their national objectives and political situations. It’s a work in progress and something I look forward to researching further

    • Supplemental Rules for AA G40 with BBR v5

      Greetings all,

Creating this thread for use in the very near future to share several rules that I have developed to enrich the overall experience of Axis & Allies: Global 1940. While not fully finalized, I consider them sufficiently developed and want to share with the community for anyone interested in playtesting and providing feedback.

This first post is a starter, and will lay out the three principles of design thay I followed in creating these rules. I’ll also include a list of planned rules modules that are meant to be included as a whole, but can be added individually to tailor the level of complexity desired. Full disclosure; these rules have been developed in reference to the BBR 5 map, but could be reworked for an OOB G40 board.

      Principles of Design:
In order of priority, I considered the following three principles.

      1. Playability — Does the rule work within the context and constraints of the game mechanic? It doesn’t matter how good the rule is if it is broken and unusable.
      2. Accessibility — Is the rule as streamlined and as simple as possible while retaining functionality? Overwrought and excessively complicated rules with high cognitive loads become barriers, not on-ramps.
      3. Historical Accuracy — Does the rule work in a streamlined way that appropriately reflects the historical context and circumstances of the era? Some abstraction will be essential, but tight rules for the sake of a slick ruleset serve no purpose in enriching the overall playing experience where you are called to “re-fight, not replay” World War 2.

Future Posts will cover the following Modules:

      1. New and Modified Units & Associated Special Rules/Abilities
      2. Research & Technology
      3. Minor Powers
      4. Neutral Powers

I’m looking forward to sharing what I’ve pulled together thus far!

I realize the delay has been longer than anticipated. Life happens, and in the busy season since Easter, I haven’t been able to sit down and pull things together.

      I’ll reply back soon.
