    • RE: Introduction: new user … and my custom IL Supreme map! :)

      Man, only 18 Euros! I wish printing was that cheap here (Montreal)!

      Yup saving chart is a must! A lot more fun than starting a new game every time…

      @SrFinn:

      Wait…
      I just posted on the 1942 FAQ thread.

      I read the rulebook, it looks like subs can stall. (move in non combat to a sz with unloaded enemy transports).
      Anyone who ever played AA Pacific (old one) knows that there, stalling is the only little hope against an india crush.

      Moreover here subs can’t be picked by air units!

      Does anyone know about this? I can’t see any comment about sub stalling in 1942.
      If it is allowed (as it appears to be on rulebook) IC in India may be protected ! or at least force japan to spend and risk more

      Subs can’t stall, period. Interpret like this: on your turn, any seazone that contains only enemy subs and/or transports can be treated like there is no enemy unit at all. Enemy subs and transports never hinder any of your movement.

      The reason for this is that the seazone s not considered hostile.

    • RE: 1942 Compared to Revised

      As Hobbes clearly defines it, without saying it, the balance was obtained with naval tweeks.

      The biggest impact is certainly the UK BB being nerfed to a cruiser. This certainly makes a huge difference in the fight for the Med. sea.

      The outcome is the same, that ship is sunk. However, Germany has a better chance of seeing its planes/ships return, thus evening the field.

      @McLovin1985:

      @Hobbes:

      @McLovin1985:

      My friend just took the East Indies with that fleet, destroyed my Japanese fleet that occupied that sea zone (Battleship & Carrier with 2 fighters I believe), he got lucky rolls. Then used the transport to take 2 inf. from India. Again lucky rolls to take the East Indies. If the dice weren’t in his favor it’d be a horrible loss.

      He also built an I.C. in AUS to go island hopping. Screw the mainland, getting Manila, East Indies and Borneo is a huge dent in Japans income. Also a pain in the neck for Japan to retake it while America builds up their fleet and starts to move in for the kill.

      Killing the Japanese carrier + BB + 2 ftrs with 1 carrier, 1 cruiser and 1 ftr plus winning a 2 inf vs 2 inf amphibious assault? The odds of that happening are close to 0 (0.3% actually for the naval combat and 22% for the ground fight). He just took a huge gamble with the attack and the dice gods blessed him.

      Haha wow, 0.3%?? Can’t be that low. U.K Carrier at 1, Fighter at 3, Cruiser at 3 VS. Battleship (2hits) 4, 2 Fighters at 4, Carrier at 2. Seems difficult but not 0.3%, whats almost like winning the lotto isn’t it  :lol:

      Nope, sounds about right to me! you’ll have 1 hit one your first turn (absorbeb by the BB, and he’ll have 2.3, killing you outright. 0,3% even sound… high! But I guess he did simalate ite with TripleA. So, don’t do it!!!

    • RE: Has anyone tried to make there own maps?

      I’ve never tried, but I think mother nature did a great job of creating an interesting map :) I understand you might want to have more land battles, but, to me, it’s the mix of air, naval, and land units that makes the game more fun. Plus, the Eurasia continent has a lot of land battles happening.

      To answer you question, I don’t think you’ll be able to design a balanced map only by theory. You,ll need to playtest it a couple times to make it more balanced. Even Larry Harris himself has to do this. So us mere mortals should do the same.

    • RE: 1942 over revised rules seem , weak

      I also like 42 better. They took what had most improved in Revised (the map) and then improved what still needed the most improvements (naval warfare).

      Nowadays naval combat matters, and, guess what: it’s FUN! I’m using (and buying) subs. SUBS!

      A great ruleset!

    • RE: What is your favorite bid ?

      @Granada:

      Based on my modest experience i do not believe any bid is necessary. I think a better player would have higher chance to win with either side.

      And also as I do only play with dice, the outcomes of the first round differ so wildly that it makes for a much higher scale than any bid can cover.

      While this is true to some extent, bid has more “IPC worth” than its actual IPC value. What I mean by this is that the 3 IPC bid that buys you an infantry that goes in Africa before the start of the game is worth a LOT more than 3 IPC. With bid you get to choose where a unit is placed, and that can turn the tide of an important early battle. In fact, there’s a reason Axis bid used to often (always?) be in Africa…

      Still, yes, 1st turn battles will shape the game.

    • RE: What is your favorite bid ?

      From the games I’ve played, the game seems balanced. And the potential anihilation of the British fleet on G1 combined with the fact that transports will not take any hits really slows the Allies progression. It means regrouping with the U.S. vessels (and lone R sub), and prevents from building ships off the coast of UK/Western.

      My preference is to play axis, so I usually let go for a 1-2IPC bid in favor of Allies. After that, I take 3 allied IPC and put one more INf in India or China.
