    • RE: Does Japan need to be house ruled to weaken them?

      I did expect to run into the leftover Jap fleet, but I usually face Pearl lite in my games, so maybe I underestimated that.

      But even then, you could deal a major blow to that fleet. Because the US attack will be:
      BB, SUB, 2 FTR. Depending on the opposition, I would also consider bringing the BMB. That should be enough to anihilate any fleet leftover. And then the US can begin to use its economical advantage.

      @ragnarok628:

      i think that would just take away options for japan– no more ‘pearl harbor lite’.  new units in SZ52 will just immediately die to japan again anyway.

      Really? With 20 IPC, he could place AC+ 1 sub. Add to that the submerged sub already in SZ52+ W US BB + 1-2 FTR, that’s no small fleet to sink!

    • RE: Germany-US vs UK-Japan-USSR

      I disagree totally. UK would never be able to get a fleet. And US/G sealion on 3rd turn would proabably overrun London, 4th turn max. Russia usually commits most of its ressources against G, so I don’t see it causing a lot more trouble for GER. It cannot take Berlin before R5-R6, and that’s if G doesn’t turtle.

      UK instantly loses E and W. Canada on US1.

      Also, keep in mind that Japan will have a hard time raising its income. The 2 China/Sinkiang then… that’s it. The other ones are in Western Europe. Good luck getting your troops there. Also, no IC close to US or G.

      Bottom line for me is London will always fall before Berlin.

      @Col.Stauffenberg:

      I do wish there was some way to get some more Pacific action going but we play KGF all the time now.

      Why not move the E US fleet to the coast of L.A. (as a house rule)? That’ll change your game and probably get the Pacific going.

    • RE: Can a transport unload in the same sea zone as an enemy sub?

      @Keredrex:

      @football2006:

      Just so I’m not second guessing myself, if there was a destroyer blocking you, you could still perform an amphibious assault if you aided the transport with fighters, right?

      you can always make an amphibious assault with a transport… as long as the attacker wins whatever naval combat occurs in the SZ.  if a Destroyer and a transport attack a SZ for amp assault and there is an enemy destroyer there, combat occurs.  as long as the enemy is sunk, you can continue to amp assault the territory.  If its survives then your transports are sunk as they do not have any combat (or defense) roll.

      Not true, the attacking TRN can retreat.

      @Hobbes:

      @Nomarclegs:

      If the JP sub lives (two out three times it does) it will almost always submerge.

      Submarines can submerge before any combat if there are no enemy destroyers present. And the Jap sub should do it since there’s no point in defending with a 1 against an enemy submarine attacking at 2.

      Yup. This was unclear in the original rulebook, so many players were left in the dark. But it is clear that subs can always submerge before any combat, unless there is an enemy DD present. So the Jap sub will always live if it chooses so.

    • RE: Imperious Leaders 1942 Supreme Map

      My own custom map, using IL’s file. It’s the AA42, of course. It’s 50*25 inches.

      I prefer the practical aspect of a map, so it’s a 9 pieces board. It actually fits in the original AA42 box, so it’s pretty convenient (as I don’t have a lot of storage space available).

      The core material is foamboard, and I had the images printed on the office laser printer.

    • RE: Does anyone still use paper money (ipc's)?

      @ragnarok628:

      so how do you keep track of production?  just count it out every turn?

      When I play AA42, I’m often excited to the point I always topple the production chart.

      So we usually end up recalculating that. It’s actually very easy and fast. You take the starting Nat. Prod. substract the territories lost and add the territories conquered. Usually there’s only 4-5 of them, so it’s pretty quick. I know it sounds obvious, but some people just add every IPC value of every territory owned, instead, which is quite longer (well maybe 15 sec longer).

    • RE: A Discussion on Japan

      I agree. I used to do IC on J1, but I’m more into TRN now. However, the India IC on J2 is a must, if possible. Its location is much more valuable than Manch or FIC.

    • RE: Rule modification

      It would have a negative effect on the game, for me. Discouraging conquest would make the game unplayable, and favor the Allies due to their economical advantage. In the game, the Axis has a chance because it has a lot of units it can put to work (conquer). Slowing this would only favor Allies.

      Also, the game would be less fun… :)

    • RE: What do you do about the Japanese navy helping out in the Atlantic?

      @ragnarok628:

      so, in general, is US to completely disregard the threat of japan assault on its mainland?  because they will still have time to defend it once it becomes clear that they are going to try?

      Exactly my train of thoughts. And it’s also valid for a UK invasion by G…

    • RE: Russian moves to start game

      I think the attack on Norway by Rus is overrated because we usually focus on what it saves (UK BB). But you have to remember what it costs: 1 if not 2 Rus FTR. That’s a heavy toll. 10-20 Rus IPC is certainly worth at least 20 UK IPC.

      Also, keep in mind that the G sub you usually commit to this attack is freed to take a 50/50 shot at the US fleet. Not a bad tradeoff. The BMB can put its heavy weight in another fight, like AE, to make sure more units survive the attack.

      So, I say “No-Way to NorWay”.

    • Digital Copy

      Nowadays, when you buy a movie, it is standard to also receive a digital copy of said movie.

      So, I think it would be very interesting to have to same thing with our games. More so with AA42, since it is difficult to find players for live games. It doesn’t have to be very complicated. I’m thinking of a graphically improved TripleA, with added options (better edit mode, Steam support, better matchmaking…). WotC could buy TripleA from sourceforge, telling them: “good work guys, here’s a check for XXX$, we’ll handle the online gaming from now on”.

      I’d happily pay an extra 5$-10$ for each of my AA games to get access to this content.

      What do you guys think?

    • RE: German Strategy…beef up the navy or straight to Moscow?

      @ragnarok628:

      ok talk this out to me.  baltic carrier can’t work unless airforce takes out british destroyer and cruiser in the med, right?  because it would just get wasted.  and if russia buys a sub R1 then sub + 2 fighters is still coin toss vs BB and AC so that’s pretty risky.  so seems like you’d have to get at least 1 fighter as well.  so 1 fighter + 1 bomber + 1 AC = 36 and you only have 4 dollars left for land.  and on top of it all you won’t be able to attack anglo-egypt G1. am i getting this?

      The Baltic sea is North of Germany. And you do have to land FTR there in non-combat for it to work. But really look for IL’s thread to understand the numerous possibilities.

      And yes, it does leave you with only 14 IPCs to spend on INF. But it’s really a different strategy then the rush to RUS.

    • RE: Does anyone still use paper money (ipc's)?

      The chart with roundels is made for current IPC territorial values, not IPC in the bank, unless you have 2 charts?

      Anyways, yes, we use the paper IPC from Classic to figure out how much we made the previous turn.

      We also keep a tally on a piece of paper so that we can compare from game to game: “huh, last game G was at 43 IPC after G1, but it’s only 37 this time around. I told you Sealion wouldn’t work…”.
