    • Which Ruleset do you use when playing Europe 1940?

      I can’t decide which ruleset to use, but I’m leaning toward OOB + Alpha scrambling.

      What do the officers on the forums think?

      @MrMalachiCrunch:

      As soon as I finish my test in mid August I’m getting AAA and making it a priority to test this strat (ie end this charade).

      Is it mid-August yet?

      Ooohhhh. You’re right! The heat is on! Will Fortress Europe fall? Will this thread end? Will we see the rise of Allied bid?

      Stay tuned…

      Man, I was never good with those names.

      In French for once, it’s less complicated: we call 'em square, star, and flat line.

      I’m partial to the square one.

    • RE: Infantry vs. Artillery on offense

      I’m pretty sure 1 ARM + 1INF has better odds than INF + ART Mr. Hobbes :)

      Also, consider that in a large stack, the INF receiving the + 1 attack will always be the last to die, so it’s almost as effective as an artillery.

      All in all, in a large stack INF+ART = INF+ARM, but at 1 less IPC. Bottom line, don’t buy them in bulk, but do throw one in the stack.

      @Imperious:

      You can get 1/700 scale decals for the planes and save time making all these roundels.

      Where? Ebay or just the local hobby shop? Or internet?

    • RE: Anyone think this seems too small now?

      Well, my glass is 1/4 full then… For a worldwide game, I still prefer AA42. Global40 is just too big and long. I have kids to take care of, and a day job!

      However, I really like Europe 1940 for the setting, because there’s stuff going on all over the place, and Europe is my favorite place in Axis and Allies games.

      In AA42, the Pacific theater is just so quiet, Japan slowly crawls towards Russia, mostly unimpeded.

      So it’s EU1940 or AA42.

    • RE: I've no clue what to do with UK in first round

      @Speusippus:

      I once played against a UK who waited three rounds before he even bought anything. I now understand he did this so he could lay down a massive navy all at once.

      Well, what is going to be left for G to attack SZ2, the safest place to put your fleet in?
      As LMD said, normally (if he did mot lose any planes against the UK BB on G1): 2 SUB, 1FTR, 1BMB (the G DD will have been destroyed by either UK or US planes).

      2DD, AC, 2FTR (I suggest using the US FTR on the AC) is going to defeat that attack.

      He could have more, but then he’s crippling his G1 attacks, and crippling his options for G2.

      That being said, even if you have to wait until UK2 to put your fleet down, you’r not losing a lot.

      Why? Because you don’t have anything to do with that fleet without any Transports (TRN). You might have 1 TRN in SZ1, but that’s it. You could land in Norway, but it’ll be destroyed anyway (it’s worth it if you can capture Norway). You could also just send it to SZ 8 on UK2.

      On UK2, you can lay down your fleet in SZ8, where it’ll be joined by US 1 CRU and 1DD. At that point, G will have to pull all of its planes back to W EU. to threaten you. If it does so, don’t worry, that means the Russians are having a field day… Just build an additionnal DD with UK and you’ll be fine.

      @Viracocha:

      Ah! found the missing RAF! I have some bomber aces in there…

      Please, PLEASE tell me that the Ace of Diamonds is a decal, and not painted on.

      I’ve painted my share of minis (Warhammer) and that is some impressive work, given the scale.

      Gratz

    • RE: To bomb, or not to bomb?

      I don’t have the same problems with Strat bombing as everybody else has…

      For all that has been said about the “IPC / bmb raid” ratio not being worth it, I don’t agree.

      Let’s be generous, and say that the net result is 0,5 IPC. That would actually be great. If I could play a game where German income = 0 and USA income = 0. I’d do it, and win every time.

      My problem is S. EU. industrial complex. If I bomb Germany and S. EU to hell (to hell means all the way down to twice their production capacity), it still only needs to spend 12 IPC to be able to produce 6 units, which is not much, but might be enough to withstand the Allied assaults unitl Japan arrives.

      And before we get to that point, it’ll be G4, since US1 bmb buys won’t bomb Germany/S.EU before US3.

      So start bombing will only be effective against a G player that has not invested mainly in ground troops on G1 (let’s say he buys 1 FTR + 1 BMB).

      @LMD:

      Yes, we lose the R fighter on Germany R1, but one Russian fighter does not make the difference.

      It does make the difference. A figther is a kind of super tank that can attack, but not be destroyed in the counter-attack. This makes a world of difference to the Russians. A world.

      How do you bring units from Algeria to Egypt on G1??? Doesn’t the TRN starts too far for that?

      @Bunnies:

      I use a simple fishing tackle box.  It’s got a lot of different sub-compartments.

      Holy @##$%. And I thought I was the only genius to use a fisherman’s box! Gratz Bunny!
      Yup, these boxes are perfect, because they have a lot of compartments, of different sizes.

    • RE: R1 Indian Factory

      I always consider UK1 India IC IF G has a lousy AES attack.

      The best way to secure the IC is to go ahead with FIC attack on UK1 and that leaves little troops for AES counter. I can’t go India IC unless I know I’ll be able to reclaim AES, because Germany roaming in Africa is just too costly.

      Hello Luft!

      I don’t know who you’re playing against, but I can tell you that Russia “focusing on Japan” is a rare occurance in my games…

      Other than that, yup, INF and ARM are the bulk of any German army. One plane once in a while also helps.

      @football2006:

      I’m very curious to learn about how other experienced players use as their primary method of getting US troops to America. Up to this point I’ve had my transports go from Eastern Canada to Europe.

      I usually build troops in E. US. But that’s just me…

    • RE: Russian moves to start game

      @Hobbes:

      If G doesn’t take Egypt on R1 then the Med fleet is sunk on UK1. The good part is that G then gets 6 land units on Libya but the UK can reinforce Egypt to defend against such an attack.

      Unless it takes Gibraltar. Rare, but a valid option nonetheless. Or if G buys naval in the Med.
