    • RE: Do you think Italy has been succesfully modeled in the Game?

In my ltd experience, one 5 player game, I certainly believe Italy was well modeled.

The games conclusion was foretold when the Italians were finally thrown out of Syria and Egypt rather unceremonsiously, I might add.

Once Italy lost control of North Africa and the UK entered the Med it was all she wrote as far as we all could see about the eventual end-game: the Fall of the Axis.

The game ended shortly afterwards by consent.

I played Germany and Italy and it was a great time to try to synthesize their moves and strategy.

There came a time when Italy was on the verge of breaking Egypt and  India and the rest of Africa beckoned, but it was not to be!

It was so tantalizing, that I look forward to trying it again; hopefully over the Christmas season.

OK, just what are the Axis & Allies demographics?

When did you first play an Axis & Allies game?

      Sounds awesome!

      Showdown in Reno!

By the way: what are the odds of victory for each participant?

Who is the prohibitive favorite?  :-D

Did Bombers have any significant impact upon navies in WWII?

I thought that Bombers bombing carriers and battleships and cruisers and destroyers was non existent in WWII?

Was there any significant such encounters? If not, then ban the use of bombers against naval assets.

Perhaps they attack at 2’s not 4 agst naval targets??

    • Are you a Hard Core Axis& Allies Player?

I just want to see who plays what and how frequently.

So answer the poll if you will and indicate how often you sit down and play any of the Axis & Allies games and whether it is with a gaming group, or solo or with a regular opponent etc. i.e. neighbor, brother et al

Do not include in your answer any online or e-mail games.

Just those face to face games where the board is set up!!

      Thanks.

I know that I’d play much more often than I do, only played one AA50 game so far with 5 players, but it is just getting 5 guys together to do it that is a royal pain.

Hope I set up the Poll correctly!

    • Who Paid Full Price $99.00 for AA50?

I am just curious at how many of us paid full price for AA50?

I pd $85.00 incl tax at the FLGS.

Is there any reason one has to pay $100.00; let’s don’t call this a

      $100.00 game.

Who paid the least, incl shipping?

    • RE: Go For Africa!

In our 5 player AAA, Italy was about to make a breakthru in Africa and thru Transjordan to India. Egypt was being lightly held by the UK, India was open, no units at all, (in Burma), but the UK had earlier begun a move of Australian units and transports to Egypt & literally snatched victory from the jaws of defeat by landing those units and transporting the So Africa by means of the Australian transport.

It was so close for the Italians to be on the verge of a major game changing situation!  If Egypt had fallen on that turn, Africa and India lay open……

Man, if you guys were settling the West, you would never have gotten past New York City!

Heck, not even past Boston……    :-D

I can hear it now:  “The wagon is dirty, the food has maggots, there are Indians out there, we have to actually camp out!!???, I did not sign up for this. For $2 we don’t get silverware, steaks, a bed and 4 square meals?  Who do I complain to??”

Is there anything else to complain about?

Surely there must be more you can find in that big box to whine about!!

Look, if any of you have buyer’s regret, why don’t you donate the game to your local community center or high school game club or better yet pack up your awful pieces and send them to me!!

I’d be happy to take them off your hands!!

It is a game folks!! Enjoy it!!

      They are fine!

      Don’t worry about it!!!

They aren’t bent nor deformed, but the colors are too similar for those color deficient persons.

Just play the game and enjoy!!

    • RE: The Map is fine, but…

Just scanned the Western USA part of the map.

Then enlarged it to an appropriate size by guessing what size would still fit the map and not look too bad or obviously “home made,” but still would be larger enuff to fit my needs of a larger Western USA.  Kind of hit and miss on the enlarging. I initially printed out a couple of drafts on paper to see how well it would fit once I was ready to place it.

I had to darken the scan somewhat to get it to be same tone as the board colors.

Then I selected a semi gloss photo paper and printed it.

Then trimmed the map down to the coastline leaving the “light water” edge on the map. I also trimmed the northern part of enlarged map to allow it to fit better into the already existing coastline where it joined to Canada and voila it was done!!

I secured it to the map with tiny strips of double backed scotch tape.

The only caveat is that it allows Mexico access to sea zone 56 and it covers up the 55 in seazone 55 and it partially obscures “San Francisco,” but I’ll either let that go or relabel it Los Angeles! Go Dodgers!!

Here is my map modification to a larger Western USA to accommodate all the builds there; rather than to tolerate the small Western USA as printed upon the map which is much too small to receive all the units it will receive during the game! Works fine now!!

The pieces in AA50 are fine, my goodness!

OK so the colors may be too similar, I know that myself becz I have

trouble with colors, but other than that the units are fine.

Not just OK but fine for this game.

Why all this drumbeating about the “alleged” deficits of this game!

I’ve played it and it is fun with 5 players!!

Italy is great as a spoiler.

Can’t wait for the 2d game to try all these new ideas about how best to play

this brand new exciting game with a great map and a ton of plastic tanks battleships

      cruisers etc

It is a great value for less than $100 and the replay value is even higher!!

You’ll make money if you keep replaying it!!

So relax and just play it and enjoy it!!

K:  “I think what’s confusing you is the “Surprise Strike” label.  The “surprise” only really applies to non-subs and when you have a DD.”

Don’t you mean that “Surprise” only really applies when you don’t have a DD?

OK, I am almost there!  :-D

      I think  :|

      Lastly:  You said:
If both subs survive, the next round begins and the  same sequence of events occurs again.

So by that you mean that it all begins over again and the 1st sub can submerge or not submerge, Surprise Strike or not again and the 2d sub decides too if it has to?

    • RE: How do subs work?

      Listen guys again:

I am only talking about a case where a sub encounters another sub. No DD and No Air units present!!

      It is one on one.

OK, from what I know and from what you have said earlier both are entitled to a Surprise Strike on the other, without anypossible avoidance by either sub, just becz it is Surprise Strike. A target of SS can not avoid it!! That’s how I understand it.

Then becz of it’s very nature, after combat between 2 solitary subs must continue to the death becz neither sub can avoid Surprise Strike and therefore it must continue till one dies or both dies since it is done simultaneously.

If either one gets a Surprise Strike on the other, then neither sub can avoid the strike, by submerging, becz thats what a Surprise Strike does: it can not be avoided, hence the label: “Surprise.”

I mean if the 1st sub ignores the 2d sub, the 2d sub may SS against the 1st sub right? and then the SS continues in a vicious cyle till one dies.???

    • RE: How do subs work?

OK, I’ve re read all of the above and I hope I’ve got it:

      all without a DD present:

If a UK sub enters a seazone containing a German sub, it can totally ignore the German sub, correct, regardless of the German sub being submerged or not submerged?  If UK ignores that German sub, then that turn is over and the German sub can not react, correct?  The UK sub can either submerge or non-submerge as it ignores the German sub?

If a UK sub enters a seazone containing a German sub, either submerged or non submerged, and it decides to Surprise Strike the German sub, then both subs get the Surprise Strike ability, correct? They execute it simultaneously?  Then if both survive, and if either one decides to continue with Surprise Strike it negates the ability of the other to submerge and save itself and they both continue simultaneously again?

I appreciate your responses and your patience.

I’ve got a 6 player game coming up on Black Friday and I want to be able to answer all the questions correctly and w/o frustration and w/o the flipping of pages.

So again my thanks for being “the answer guy.”

    • RE: How do subs work?

      Krieghund you earlier posted:

      The sequence is:

      1. Attacking subs submerge (or not)
      2. Defending subs submerge (or not)
      3. Unsubmerged attacking subs fire
      4. Unsubmerged defending subs fire
      5. Casualties are removed
      6. Attacking non-sub units fire
      7. Defending non-sub units fire
      8. Casualties are removed.

Where is the Surprise Strike option?

    • RE: How do subs work?

      Krieghund you earlier said:

Attacking and defending subs may always submerge before any dice are rolled in a combat round, unless there is an opposing destroyer.

But the rules contradict that. It says specifically on p 30 that:
“If both players have submarines, all the submarines get to fire a surprise strike before taking any casualties.”

I interpret that to mean that all the subs involved can not submerge but have to engage in the Surprise Strike.

Furthermore,  if Surprise Strike is defined as an attack, as it is on p30, then how can defending subs engage in a Surprise Strike?

If a cruiser moves into a seazone where there is a sub, how can the sub conduct a Surprise Strike, an attack, on the Cruiser when it is the defending sub?

Furthermore, if a legitimately attacking sub uses Surprise Strike against a cruiser it encounters, and chooses not to submerge, it can use it again against the cruiser?

Finally, if there is a DD in the sea zone, the Sub has to stay all combat rounds and can not submerge, and has no Surprise Strike ability; whether it is defending or attacking, that’s the bottom line?
