    • Convoy Question

      Looking at the board for shipping lanes to block with my German subs I have a question for Krieg.  Sea zone 82 has four land territories touching it each valued at 1 IPC.  2 belong to France and 2 belong to UK.  I know that when I have a sub “On station” in a convoy zone it can sink up to 2 IPC from the nation whose territories surrounds the zone.  So in this instance would that sub be able to sink 2 IPC from UK and 2 IPC from France (assuming they can collect income) every round it is there?  So that one sub would be subracting 4 IPCs from the allies?

      Thanks in advance.

    • RE: Soviet minor industrial complex in Amur

      If I was Japan I would love for Russia to attack me every game R1, because to take Korea they would have to send at least 3 inf and the more inf they divide up the easier it is for Japan’s mighty airforce to take them down.  I would have no problem  as Japan to take 1 turn to eliminate the Russian Northern threat even if it delayed my attacks against UK.

      Any troops Russia sends into China are fewer troops available to fight the Nazi when they come.

      Krieg, can Russia take over pro-allied neurtals like in mid east before they are at war with Euro Axis?  Can they invade Iraq, while not at war?

      @marechallannes:

      I like this map.

      Who needs space in Africa? :?

      I need enough space for the main battlefields: Eastern front, China, Pacific

      I agree, it has the general shape of Africa and that is all I need.

      If I was Germany I would attack this one inf with my stack (4-6 inf) and let the Russians attack me.  This way my inf are rolling 2s rather than 1s

    • RE: J1 attack on Russia in Global

      @Bruda_Iz:

      It sounds good… the only weak part is that it relies on the Russian player to be complacent.  I would imagine that you would get someone once with that but probably not twice.  Other than that it sounds like a pretty good plan for all the points you mentioned.

      I agree if it happens it will only be once, but the big question is how to deal with 18 inf sitting on your boarder?  I think they have to be dealt with in the early rounds of the game, otherwise Russia will just wait until the air force is out of range and attack.  As Japan trying to defend by Manchuria and Korea against 18 inf would take at least 8 or so inf in each territory, and that is something Japan cannot afford to do.  They could also abdandon Korea and beef up Manchuria, to try and stop Russia from getting to the rest of Asia, but then Russia could drop an IC and it would be all over for Japan.

      The more I think about it, capturing Amur J1 and defending it will be the best idea for Japan.  Another bonus by holding Amur is that Russia won’t get it IPC bonus for capturing original German territories.

      @Piazza2425:

      If I was japan, i’d consider going through the empty territories of Mongolia to get to the Russian territories that do not have any men in them.

      Given the true neutral rules I would be aprehensive about doing that, but the issue is not about taking Soviet territories, it is about securing Japan’s northern flank.

    • J1 attack on Russia in Global

      Russia has 18 inf stationed on the Pacific side of the board spaced out over 3 territories (6 per) to deter/taut the Japanese player.  If the Russian player gets complacent and doesn’t consolidate all 18 units into Amur, attacking them might be the best strat.  Amur is within range of 4 Inf, 1 mec inf and 1 art from Manchuria plus 1 inf from Korea plus all the airforce from Manchuria, Japan, Okinawa, Kiangsu (not saying to use these planes, cause this force is needed for china attacks), plus whatever you wanted to bring over from Japan on their two transports to combat this Russian force.

      By attacking Russia it lets Amur be the buffer zone between the rest of the Russian units and Japan’s valuable Korea/Man, thereby Japan could put troops only in Amur to protect it’s northern flank.
      Also by removing this threat early on Japan won’t have to secure it northern boarder and can focus on India, Anzac, US.
      Other advantages would be that outside of air units Russia can not get an significant offensive pieces to that theater for several rounds, thereby making the possibility of counterattack less likely to succeed.
      Attacking Russia also puts some attention on Japan and their Eastern boarder which may distract them slightly from the eventual German attack.

      On the flip side of this if Japan doesn’t attack Russia, then they have 18 inf sitting on their nothern boarder waiting for the opportunity to strike, which strike will surely come at somepoint in the game.  Attacking Russia does not bring any other nation into war, so Japan can do this without reprisal.

      What do others think?

      Can I scramble planes to stop movement through a sea zone.  Example Japan wants to attack Hawaii from Japan, but must go through midway to get there, can I scramble fighters on Midway and stop there progress to Hawaii?

      Yea that is strange that subs can go through one strait but not the other, but I’m sure they had reasons for that and it doesn’t really concern me.

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      My only concern (and maybe a house rule will have to be made) is that Subs should be able to go through…  Both Allied and Axis Submarines went through during the war.

      I seem to recall reading somewhere on these boards that subs are allowed to pass through enemy controlled straights.

      If that is the case please confirm as I don’t recall hearing that.

      With all the posts I have been reading about this game between here and Larry’s site I don’t remeber exactly where I saw it.  I looked back through several posts but could not find the reference.  Lets ask one of the guys that have already played.

      With the neutrality rules, I don’t think I would tell anybody to invade Spain, unless they want to give the Axis a huge manpower bonus.

    • RE: Thoughts on Global NO's

      I would have to agree with you regarding the Russian NO of EACH territory.  That seems a big excessive.  I also hope that the Russian NO includes no allied units in Soviet territory or else I can just see a bunch of US units sitting in Siberia waiting for an attack on Japan.

      I was also surprised about the US only getting 30 for at war NO, because a difference of 40 is printed on the pacific map, but an income of 82 seems a little better than 92 (at least for the axis).

      The UK no sub rule, is that a one time thing like Anzac in Pacific or is that every round?  If so then Germany better pump out a sub or two every round.

      Germany 3 IPC for a ground unit in Egypt. Does that include Alexandria and Anglo-Egyptian Sudan or just Egypt.  I think it should be anywhere in Africa to encourage German troops in Africa, but to put it in a specific territory is kinda of lame.

    • RE: Allied Player controling France

      To speed up game play it might be best to put:
      US with Anzac
      Russia with China or France
      UK with China or France

      My reasoning is that turn order is Ger, Rus, Japan, UK, Anz, Ita, US, China, Fra.  By splitting up turn order US can think about
      Anzac moves/buys during Ger, Rus, Jap turn and US buys during Ita turn, and so on with the other powers.  By having other powers
      turns in between your powers turn it gives some time to think and have at least purchases decided upon before hand.

    • RE: US starts at 52 IPCs, goes to war - 92 IPCs, chart goes to 72 ???

      I believe that if you play just Europe alone than the U.S. at war bonus is 30, but if you play global than the at War bonus
      is only 40.  Giving the total U.S. income during Global war of 92!!!  112 IPC would be way too much, and america could take on
      all the axis powers by themselves.

    • RE: Battle of the Atlantic

      @SgtBlitz:

      G1:  This strategy centers around Germany’s ability to build from Western Germany into SZ 112.  Build an AC and two transports; or if you’re feeling less adventurous, build an AC and a destroyer and sub (or save the 6 IPCs).  Use the bomber, 4 fighters, and 3 tac bombers plus your starting subs in the Atlantic to clear the SZs around Britain.

      You guys must have loaded dice to think you can send all of your air force against UK and still have enough fire power to take out France.  Sitting in France is 7 inf, 2 art, 2 tanks, 1 fighter.  The most land units Germany can bring is 6 inf, 4 mec inf, 2 art, 5 tanks.  That would be 8 (1s), 4 (<2), 5 (<3) against 9 (<2), 2 (<3) and 1 (<4).  If dice doesn’t go your way (and it never does for me, esp in the early rounds) then you don’t take France and have a much closer enemy than UK.
