    • RE: Defenseless British Transport

      If they opt to go for that transport that SHOULD leave you with something in the Atlantic. Maybe your Battleship survived? Your cruiser perhaps in Gibraltar?  If neither of those do than you will for sure have the US fleet which can invade Africa on US 1.

      Just look at it this way, if they take out that defenseless transport the chances of you keeping something better are good. Be happy!

      If you guys have links to some of these custom pieces that would be great. I would just like to see what some people have done/ what can be done.

      I agree, that is beautiful. And what “canvas type material” did you print it on?

      They cannot land on newly conquered territory. You must own the land at the beginning of your turn for any aircraft to land on that territory.

      @Hobbes:

      @nutbar:

      it is so unfair that germany gets to go before UK because Strategic Planner usually invades UK. should i insist on uk and ussr go before germany? would USSR and UK going first then germany help or hurt the allies and would it help or hurt the axis?

      I personally would refuse to play a game of AA42 as Axis if the Russia and the UK played first than Germany.

      I have to second that. You think it is unfair for the UK as it is? It would be far more unbalanced if Uk and Russia got to beat up on Germany first.

    • RE: Unoccupied Hostile Territories

      For the sub, whenever you would roll the dice for your subs you can elect to submerge instead of roll. So if there i no destroyer attacking you can then, as a defending sub, do a surprise attack and roll the dice- or submerge. Basically, if you want to submerge you can do it before the battle starts. UNLESS a destroyer is there.

    • RE: Fortress Europe Axis Strategy

      @Keredrex:

      @Concealer:

      If I see the allies going for a KGF this is what I will do.

      but according to this strategy you dont know if the allies are doing a KGF.  this strategy is based on turn 1 for germany.  I Do like the Turn 1 moves with a change or 2.  I just dont thinks its reliable to predict 5 turns into the game. Im sure its possible to win with this if its followed but even rolls can change the outcome

      Well the turn one moves are fairly standard for what I do with Germany with only some slight differences. So I probably won’t just start out assuming they are going for a KGF. I will do what I usually do and then if I see the US commit its forces to Germany. If they do on G2 I will buy lots of infantry and a bomber or two and play defensively.

    • RE: Fortress Europe Axis Strategy

      I think this is a solid strategy. Fortress Europe makes a lot of sense with the 3 German capital cities counting for 22 IPCs. That alone gives you a decent amount of infantry/defense. If I see the allies going for a KGF this is what I will do. It is logical and makes more sense then trying to take them out on your own as Germany. If you hole up and commit Japan to offense and Germany to defense you should have the upper hand.

      Basically, I approve. Thanks for the post.

    • RE: Axis & Allies 1942 Game Board Size

      I think the board is playable. I have used it for many a game but I would love a bigger board. I think a bigger board would be more enjoyable to play on along with a second 1942 set of pieces.

      That is pretty cool. I don’t know if anyone has done this before but I like having it all laid out like that. And I think the UK maybe should have another carrier or two. It is debatable though. You could always paint over your Russian ones?

      @MrMalachiCrunch:

      I always worry when my opponent is building lots of infantry, it tells me they have a long term plan.  When I see lots of tanks I know all i have to do is weather the storm for a few rounds.  If you live long enough, the foe will run out of gas and you are taking out all kinds of juicy tanks with overwhelming infantry and a bit of firepower to get the battles over.

      Yeah if someone is stacking infantry its hard to take them out. They almost always outnumber you by the time you want to attack them. It is rather annoying. I just try to bleed them out by taking whatever I can around them. But yeah, it still takes forever.

    • RE: New G1 Move - what do you think?

      @Hobbes:

      @Wilson2:

      Back on topic, I think that is a great move. I have never played AA42, but a 50/50 26 IPCs for 6 is definitely worth it. Also, since transports and subs cannot be taken as hits, that dooms that poor UK fleet. If I were playing, I would definitely hit both SZs.

      Depends on how you see the odds. You’ll have 25% chance of winning both battles, 50% for winning at least 1 and 25% for losing both. I’d rather prefer to send the sub to SZ2 and raise the odds to win that battle.

      I have to agree. You can clear out the whole Atlantic/Med fleet of the UK on G1 with a high success rate or you can take those big gambles. I would take the high success rate. You gain a lot of breathing room with those moves and establish a certain dominance with the Germans that cannot be initially repelled. G1 is usually strong and aggressive and with those gambles it COULD lose out and show weakness.

    • RE: Carrier Movement Question

      The movement of the carrier is part of your non-combat turn phase. Meaning, it happens AFTER the combat of your fighter and whatever else you had in battle. Hence you can go and pick it up with the carrier or you can leave the carrier if your fighter falls in battle.

    • RE: USA Open ideas

      My thoughts are that it is over powered. You could establish quickly and easily a foothold in both areas. It would make taking Africa or India a hard task for the axis and most likely costly if they do take it. I feel it would give the Allies a noticeable advantage.

      I have A&A1942 and it comes with 2 AC for USSR. You are not missing pieces. There is also a thread in this forum for a larger revamped A&A1942 map made by IL.

    • RE: Japan!!

      Thanks guys, for the timely responses.

      I will for sure move my IC south to Indochina or India. And get Australia and New Zealand out of the way earlier than I usually do (J4 or J5 is when I usually go for it sadly).

      So last match I played the US built up a sizable air force and navy off California. To counter it I had 2 destroyers, a few subs, and against my better judgement I bought a battleship. I still had my starting units thanks to some lucky rolls round 1. I foolishly got scared of the US buildup and attacked his fleet. I won the battle easily but the air force took me out next turn. How should I combat a US fleet in the pacific? Aircraft Carriers and fighters? Mass subs and destroyers? Or maybe sit back and let them hang out around their coast?

    • Japan!!

      So I have been playing a lot of Axis lately and there is plenty of strategy regarding the Axis but I’m lacking in specific Japanese strategy. I generally go with transports for J1 and maybe a destroyer or more infantry. I attack the US fleet in Hawaii, push into Russia in whatever way best goes with whatever they did. And I attack China.

      Now here come the questions! Should I be looking to attack Australia J1? And India as well? I like the IC on Manchuria for J2 but should I be looking to put it in Kwangtung instead? Or somewhere else for that matter? Or not at all?

      My overall idea is to ship my guys off their islands into Asia and supplement my navy to maintain control of the Pacific. Thus the main focus is Russia and the two US territories. I have, however, seen strategies involving Japan moving its fleet into the Med and taking over Africa. What kind of navy do you build to bring over there? Do you place another IC in Africa for better access to Europe?

      Lastly, I have tried to take over the US before. It is not possible, in any realistic scenario I could think of. Do I just completely ignore them or go for Midway and Hawaii and a small stack off the shore of Midway?

    • RE: Is Spring 1942 a good buy?

      For 30$, you cannot get a better board game imo. Its great. I know a lot of people buy two. And spend money on a larger map/board. I have gotten way more than my moneys worth.
