    • Mongolia

      I’m a little perplexed by something, and since this community is always so vibrant and filled to brim with information, I’ll post it here.

      As the title suggest, its about Mongolia. During the war, it was under a communist government and kept close ties with the Soviet Union, giving raw supplies and raising troops. The country remained neutral until August 1945, when it joined in the invasion of Manchuria.

      My point, shouldn’t the territories that can produce troops, or the various states themselves be pro-Allied, or rather pro-Soviet?

      I’m still kind of shaky on how neutral producing countries actually work, so perhaps this thread can give some clarity.

    • RE: Is this the worse game?

      I have this game bought it about a week ago, like the look of it, like the map, rules, etc. However, one thing is stopping me from playing it…

      I have Green-Japanese cruisers and Orange-American cruisers.

    • RE: Kamikazes for Japan, what for Germany???

      Funny.

      This topic went from finding bonuses for Germany, to atomic bombs.

      The problem here is that, what do you constitute as ‘unique’ for a national trait in A&A? Kamikazes are present, simply because of the nature of such an attack is an act of desperation, cranked up to its max.

      However for Germany, whilst it too had its desperation moments, can we pinpoint it to the practicality for game play?

      The Allied player(s) in your group must be doing something everyone else on this forum isn’t.  :lol:

      Yup.

      That is the beauty of house rules, you can add your own spin, whatever it may be, to an already great game.  :-)

      @ABWorsham:

      I voted for the unloved Panzer IV.

      why?

      Why not?

      The Panzer IV was by all standards, a pretty decent damn tank. Its also pretty iconic, at least in my opinion.  :lol:

    • RE: AAP:40-At Times it can get Historical, and that can be annoying.

      I laughed very hard.

      But you are right, one minute A&A can seem very historical, and the next you’ll see some operations that gives ‘alternate history’ a new meaning.  :lol:

      I can’t really see the map all that well, but I get the gist of it.

      Considering the fact that Larry said the Atlantic would huge, I can imagine wolfpacks having a few ‘safe zones’ that allied aircraft coupled with destroyers can’t reach. At least for awhile anyway.

      I’m thinking that stretching from Europe to the Americas, there’ll be about six to nine sea zones.

      I doubt it, but it won’t stop people from making them.

      Man, these topics are still around and in such volume too.

      Why not just be happy with the recognition? If its such a problem, paint Canadian roundels under the infantry to distinguish them or something…

      You know, thats not a bad idea.

      Has anyone ever tried implementing the old Japanese victory point system in the newer Pacific 1940?

      @democratic:

      And nobody would get the income

      If you are referring my post, yes. The defending player may not get the income generated by that contested territory, but they may place units on an IC, if applicable.

      Hopefully, I will have made something definite after next week. I’ll post em’ in House Rules section.

    • RE: Axis & Allies: Global 1940 wish list

      I would personally love to see some sort of ‘Contested Territory’ system, or rather implement one in house rules. I haven’t worked out all the kinks, but the basis for it would be like the system used in Guadalcanal . After a certain number of rounds, perhaps three or five, the battle for that zone ends. The attacker and defender each stay in that territory, providing the defender has at least one land unit, of course.

      On the defending player’s turn, they have the option of reinforcing or conducting a strategic retreat (ie, getting the hell outta Dodge City).

      If the defending land unit still remains in the territory, the attacker on their next turn may press on, reinforcing (if possible), or after one round of combat, retreat. (if possible)

      Right now, I can only envision this for land battles, maybe air skirmishes, and perhaps naval combat. Of course, I’m seeing if I can work out the bugs to this.

      the oddest looking tank of ww2 hast to be the panzer viii anyone agree?

      Perhaps.

      However, you always gotta’ wonder if such a beast ever had the chance for combat, how would it perform.

      I can see Wolfpacks becoming more prominent in A&A E40’, rather than just a few lone submarines racing through convoy boxes in the Atlantic.

      @johnnymarr:

      I was more wondering for future games will these guys be in it

      my guess is this will be the last global game for a long time.  the next will be a series of smaller scale battles, much like D-Day or Battle of the Bulge.  It will depend on the battle which countries will be involved

      You bring up a good point.

      I wonder where the next battle scaled Axis and Allies game will take place, maybe someplace in the Pacific. I could see a Burma Road styled game?
