      I think these territories might be like French Indo-China and New Hebrides in the Pacific. Just there, per say. They’ll be empty, and can only be accessed by sending a land unit. If the French do have some colonial garrison left, it won’t be much…

      I think in the global game there should have some garrison. Probably just an Inf

      Yeah, I agree. Probably scattered about, though North African French units are guaranteed, maybe in Syria and Madagascar as well. I also now think the French fleet will have at least one transport.

      @kcdzim:

      @Admiral:

      Well, I’m assuming the British fighter is flying to Hong Kong during NCM, so I don’t think that would provoke a war, or at least constitute it due to the current rules/errata.

      Wouldn’t matter if it was NCM or CM.  Current errata states that in order for Britain or Anzac to move into China in ANY phase (as it’s an act of aggression whether or not it’s CM or NCM), a declaration of war must be made at the beginning of the Combat Phase.  If you didn’t declare war, you couldn’t legally do an NCM over china and into Hong Kong, unless there’s a new errata ruling that revises a UK/ANZAC flyover of either japanese or Chinese territories as a move that maintains neutrality.  Otherwise the UK/Anzac needs to fly over water.

      The way I see it as;

      The British fighter wouldn’t be moving into Chinese territory, rather it would be flying over it to reach its own destination. I see nothing in the errata that stops this.

      Remember this;

      “Air units may move through hostile territories and sea zones as if they were friendly.”

      And this is when they are at war, so yeah…  :|

      There was an Advanced Europe game that gave Spain and Sweden IPC values. See for yourself here:

      http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/68400/axis-allies-europe?size=large

      Interesting. AAE1940 will dominate trump that 10x over though. I can’t wait. Although, will anyone play AAE1940? Once if any? I know that I will almost definitely go straight to global.

      I’ll play Europe separately first, just to get a feel for it and how it ‘connects’ to Pacific. After I’m sure of the rules, et cetera, I’ll combine the monsters together for a global conflict.

      @SilverAngelSurfer:

      I’m thinking the second option there is the simplest and therefore most likely.  Any surviving French fleet will just continue to exist as a French fleet as part of the Allies, just as a UK or Italian fleet would if London or Rome is captured.  Yes, it’ll be kinda annoying to move it separately from the US/UK, but it’ll still be a help and might allow for some can-opener type naval attacks to keep Italy/Germany from destroyer blocking as much.

      True. After a night pondering, if would be the simplest, and as others have pointed (including Larry himself) the French were still Allies, regardless of the Vichy. It is kind of like saying Americans weren’t dying in the Revolution because of collaborators and Benedict Arnold. Or that the Republic of China wasn’t fighting for its very survival because of Wang Chingwei or Puyi.

      The French fleet does add an interesting element, never before seen in A&A. This fleet could potentially stay in the Mediterranean, roam the Atlantic, or even the Pacific.

      @oztea:

      id like it if a turn represented 3 months
      1 turn to a season
      so that seasonal rules would be simple to implement.

      I see where you’re coming from, in fact, I had the same idea, try to make it simple. However, I honestly didn’t really think of seasonal board changes, I was only going for chronological comparisons.

      Really awesome this came up!

      @finnman:

      I like the idea. This system is perfect if you wanted to add a Russia winter rule or something like that. What do you think.

      It would be, though I’m personally not a fan of elemental/weather National Advantages, at least in their present incarnation. Yet, if done properly to reflect how volatile, merciless and utterly random Mother Nature is on the battlefield, this could add a another whole degree of strategy to the game.

    • Chronically deducing Axis and Allies Pacific & Europe 1940

      I know the title may seem a little vague, for lack of a better words, but since you’re in here anyway, hear me out. I really don’t know if this should be here, or in ‘House Rules’ so please forgive in advance.

      I don’t know if any of you do this in your games, but I like to keep some sort of ‘Year Log’ when I play. This event is sequenced by seasons, kind of like how Diplomacy is, but here we have a bit of a twist, with four more seasons added. I’ve developed this system based on the first three turns of the game, which is usually when all things start popping of. Please, examine below;

      _Late Winter 1940 - Early Spring 1941  Turn 1

      Spring 1941 - Summer 1941 Turn 2

      Fall 1941 - Early Winter 1941 Turn 3_

      For anyone who wants to ‘spice’ their game up a bit, this is a pretty good way to do so. Simply imagine it, by Turn 14 based upon this system, it would be Spring - Summer 1945. In essence, if you’re the Allies, you could ‘clock’ yourself. Can you do better, or would the war go on a little bit longer?

      This also should work for Europe and when both games are combined.  :-)

      So, does anyone have any similar dating methods, or questions/suggestions to mine?

    • RE: Vichy France

      After Paris falls, and is held for one turn, I’m guessing the fleet, if anything of it is left, will be divided up. Maybe by dice roll, or perhaps when the Germans take a home port, or maybe if the fleet is near a British port. Thats something that would allow a Vichy element, without compromising what Larry said.

      Another way this could work is that effectively the French fleet is still Allied, and lives on to fight another day. Of course, this does pose tremendous problems, so I’m hoping for the first scenario or something else like it.

      Of course, we shouldn’t assume that the French fleet, when realized on the board will be too particularly large. My guess would be; 1 battleship, 2 destroyer, and/or 1 cruiser.

      Any thoughts on this?

      Speechless.

      There are no real words to convey this awesome. You’ve even actually managed to make me find my old pre-Dreadnought models and start painting them.

      I can’t wait till you finish.  :-D

    • RE: Do you want europe NAs like in AAR??

      No.

      Like other posters have said, they do give some flavor, but most of them just make the game try to follow the track of the actual war. Say for instance, the ‘Russian Winter’ NA for the Soviet Union. Needless to say when playing Germany, it left me in the cold.

      Marines are also not a national advantage, several countries had marine/amphibious assault units. Or partisans, several countries resistanced and conducted sabotage operations, not just people in Soviet territories.

      So yeah, adds flavor, but opens up a can of worms too.  :lol:

      @The:

      @oztea:

      The central france stack “might” be big enough that germany has to attack it Round 2. And a G1 and It1 attack on Brittany and Vichy respectively is the propper move.

      The only 100% ahistorical thing that is going to happen is, the french atlantic fleet is going to be big, and survive.

      I think that They did have a big atlantic fleet. Bigger than Germany’s anyhow. And I read somewhere that Germany should be able to take Central France on round one if they devote enough, but that if they tried to shirk from all out, France might have a chance of surviving one round. I would think this would be Germany devastating if they survive to build any units.

      That is what has been on mind lately, the French Atlantic fleet. Historically, they did survive and endured a lot of punishment, from the Germans and their British allies. The former tried to of course intern the ships and put them to their own use, but the latter gave them two options; Swim with us, or sink right there!

      I’m wondering how this will be equated, more so than any potential French land units. Not to mention the fleet strength and restrictions/rules. (Come on, you know that was coming)

    • RE: Soundtrack for playing Pacific

      I usually play the national anthems of a country, but I like to spice it up too. I especially like this one when playing as Japan;

      May invoke fond memories for some of you who know the tune.

    • RE: Missing U.S. unit types

      Luckily, that situation is easily replaceable, if ya know what I mean. I have extra U.S pieces, along with two sets of Marine units from the original Pacific, so I think I’ll try to work them into the rules. Maybe.

      My guess, Marine units would’ve offset the balance of the game in someway, but trust me, I see where you’re coming from. However, if you give one nation something, wouldn’t the developers have to give the other nations unit specific forces as well?

      Incidentally, I had a bit of a, for lack of better phrase, ‘Wait, what?’ moment, when Larry said that all Axis forces (in this case, Japan) would have SdKfz 251 mechanized infantry unit. Only when I did of research (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_1_Ho-Ha) did this moment subside.

    • RE: Are Cruisers ever worth it?

      I tend to use the cruiser/destroyer combination, mostly because of the unit’s ‘heavy hitter’ status, despite it not being a capital ship, it may also be personal preference, since I am a fan of CV warships. I do try to limit my cruiser spending by mixing it up, switching to and from the DD/DD, DD/SS combos.

      Balance? I tend to think so. Builds up my navy to support capital ships.

      Time is essential though.
