    • Guadalcanal night action and long lance torpedos

**_I have played the game several times now and find that air power dominates the game to the extent, ships will stand off and not engage.  Consequently, a majority of replacement builds are aircraft.  Also, there are no provisions for two important elements of the Solomon’s campaign.  First, night combat doesn’t exist.  A majority of the ship to ship battles took place at night, while aircraft were grounded.  Second, there is no inclusion of the long lance torpedo advantage the Japanese cruisers and destroyers had.

      I plan on the following:

Play two consecutive turns as night, where all aircraft are grounded.  Second, give Japanese CA’s and DD’s a bonus in ship to ship combat.  Perhaps a “3” becomes a “2”.

The Americans would have to receive some balancing advantage as well.  Radar perhaps, except at that stage of the war it was not very effective or reliable.

Has anyone considered these things and what did you come up with?

Look forward to hearing from you.

    • Questions on Movement and air battle

I have played the game now and the instructions are not clear on one thing.

Do you only pay supply to move ships from the cards during deployment or do you also pay during movement as well?  I noted the instructions show you only pay during deployment.

Also, when fighters and bombers are attacking one another, do you add the ship anti air values or do you have a pure air combat first?

      Thanks

    • RE: Mistake on Guadalcanal ships

_Roger that.  I am anxious for the game to hit the shelves.  I have played Tokyo Express and it is really a great and detailed game but the mechanics take forever to reach combat and the record keeping takes away from the game.  In my experience with AA, things move quickly and you can complete a game in a few hours.

Is there anything in the game regarding the Japanese torpedo advantaging during the South Pacific (night) battles?

      Thanks_

    • Mistake on Guadalcanal ships

_If you look at the preview pictures on the game site, you will note that they have the cruisers mixed up.  The Japanese cruiser is really the Portland class USA cruiser.  And the American cruiser is the Japanese cruiser.  Did anyone notice this?  I sure hate to see them send the game to market with this mistake.  Typically the A&A games go through great lengths to preserve accuracy.
