Firstly you unload your forces. Then the combat starts with the pre-combat shots ( BB-AA gun)
So you have to commit groundforces to even start the combat.

Also you get only 1 bombardment shot for each unloaded ground unit. So things like 10Battleships and 1 inf doesnt work either. ( it did in older versions )

@Colonel-Mustard Yeah,7 out of 8 times you would’ve been able to retreat as planned.Some famous military guy once said"No plan survives contact with the enemy"If USA and UK were going hard after normandy and denmark,that should give Italy a chance to grow strong and help stop the western allies.

@The-General-0 A quick US liberation of London assumes the German navy and its transports have been eliminated.Italy can throw a wrench into the allies plans as well.
