Agree with the cruisers. I hardly ever buy a cruiser. Maybe once every couple games, but it just seems money is better spent elsewhere.

True.
All I was getting at is Shock and Awe is an American term for Blitzkrieg. -
RE: What should Russia do?posted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
That’s actually what Germany did.

RE: What is your favorite bid ?posted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
I like to look at the dice rolls as representing the things we can’t control in war, as well as tactical decisions (since this is more of a strategic game). Weather, maybe poor officers, bad intelligence, as well as luck itself are all included in the dice.
Other games factor in the weather, terrain, etc. when doing combat. In this game, the dice covers those things. -

Buy mostly inf with a couple tanks. If you just buy inf, you’ll never be able to counter attack. Outisde of that you’re really just trying to hold off the Nazis. Try to control Ukraine and West Russia if at all possible for buffers, and concentrate your forces in the east.
Hope the Allies can help in the west, and Japan doesn’t get too strong in the east. Some general stuff. I’m sure someone will give you much more detail than I have.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. They’re nice. Where did you get them?

Are those watch faces for the planes?

RE: Fall of Moscow, worth continuing?posted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
It’s possible.
If the allies make it costly enough to claim it the first time it can often be retaken while the Germans have little in the way of reinforcements to take it again.
It can also mean that the Western Front is lightly defended and ripe for an attack by UK/US.
The earlier in the game, the more likely these are to happen.

Got the website wrong. Unless you’re trying to sell us camera equipment.
Gametableonline is the only site I know that has the graphics just like that on the 1942 map. Haven’t played it since it left the beta stage. -
RE: .posted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
If putting an IC in India, I think the best strategy is to not compound an error. I would suggest an attack, with everything against FIC. That’s 3 inf 1 ftr and a bombardment vs 2 inf 1 ftr. You have only a 60 percent chance, but over 2/3 of a chance of clearing the square. That’s most of Japans counter attack troops, and most importantly his only land forces, provided you took out his transport with the carrier.
If this battle goes horrible, I would forgo the factory in India and instead place it in Safrica. Using it to build a redoubt to keep the axis in Africa busy. If it goes well you guarantee holding the India, lower the attack troops against China, and you make another 3IPC’s from FIC.
That being said, I don’t think it is a winning strategy. I would prefer the IC in Safrica and a counter on Egypt UK1.
I thinks that’s your best chance if your thinking about a UK1 IC. Depending upon rolls, buys and location of attacks if the Japanese have no ground forces near india on turn 2 it might be worth it.

RE: GTO AA42posted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
Just started playing both TripleA and GTO, and I think its great that they are both out there for us to use. All the points above are true, and it would be nice to get the TripleA features on the GTO map. The AI on GTO was worse than TripleA’s but TripleA also had its bugs. The last game I played actually. I was the Allies, and Germany left it’s capital completely unguarded. Not one unit in the territory Germany whatsoever. Just walked in with a couple British units and 3-4 rounds later had Germany dead.
Liking TripleA a little better, but both have area that need improvement, while both have their pluses.

RE: Kgf vs. kjfposted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
I don’t think you completely have to ignore Japan just because you’re doing a KGF. I wouldn’t go 100% Europe on every turn with US. Just as in real life where the Allied leaders agreed taking down Hitler was the most important, but there was still an awful lot of fighting going on in the Pacific, so you can’t let any power go unchallenged.
I don’t agree that it’s overrated, because for the simple fact that it’s the most obvious and easiest route for the Allies to take. Russia would have to be putting up one hell of a fight, the Japanese player not be paying any attention at all to US and Japan be almost completely empty for a KJF to happen.

RE: AA 1942 on gametableonlineposted in Software
Played another triplea game, and much better this time. Don’t know what I was doing with the transports the first time, but had no problem with them this time. The A.I. is much better than gametable’s, but gametable’s map is much nicer.
Both are great for me because I can’t find anyone to play in real life. I mean, it takes 2-3 hours just to play A.I. on a computer. Can’t find anyone with that much time anymore.

RE: AA 1942 on gametableonlineposted in Software
I agree McLovin. I think it looks looks brilliant, bit the A.I. is very easy. At the end of a game it says something about novice level, but I don’t see ahywhere else to change it before or during the game.
I’ve tried a game with triplea, but the controls were a little clunky to me. Not use to it yet, but having a save feature is very nice. I sometimes can’t tell the units apart on triplea though, and couldn’t figure out loading transports at all. Would also be nicer if the maps did look a little more like the original, but that’s not a gamebreaker to me.
If they get the A.I. straight and add a save feature I’ll be playing very often.

AA 1942 on gametableonlineposted in Software
Hope I’m not doing anything wrong by posting this, and I’m not trying to advertise for these people, but I just happened to stumble upon gametableonline today and it has AA 1942 available for Beta testing to play on it.
Now I can’t remember for sure, but I think the setup wasn’t dead-on with the OTB, but if it wasn’t it was pretty close. The game did actually freeze on me. I lost connection and then reconnected wrong from what it was when I left. Gave up after that, so if this happens often it might not be worth it. But like I said, it is beta testing.
I’m pretty green when it come to experiece playing AA (a total of about 12 rounds), but from hanging around here I think I have a little better knowledge of the game than some other newbie with that little experience. Just played against the A.I., but it was smart enough to make me pay for a couple awfully dumb, obvious rookie mistakes and a couple “mistakes” getting used to the gameplay. I played as the axis and was two, three turns from taking Moscow with Japan, but was probably 3-4 turns from being in big trouble with the U.S. fleet in the Pacific. Without the mistakes it probably ends a few turns earlier. Then everything went to hell and froze.
Just happy to get a game that far to be honest. Will have to give it a try again tonight.
Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know it was out there.
Be the ball

RE: Kgf vs. kjfposted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
I’m with Cromwell. Maybe after a couple of turns things will play out (dice rolls, moves by opponents) to where it makes sense to do one or the other. I think going into the game with one of those strategies from the beginning isn’t the smartest move, though. It leaves you too open to a counter in my opinion.

RE: What to do with my classic game?posted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
I’ve always thought about doing something like that to signal veteran troops after they’ve won/survived a round or two, but it seems too hard to keep track of all of those individual units.
As far as upgrading goes, Hobbes made most of the points. If you can handle two, three rounds of a crowded board you can try 1942 on the cheap and see if you would want to move up to E40/P40 from there. Plus you would have some extra pieces for 40 if you do. If you’re worried about room on the 42 map, you can print out one of a handful of maps on here on paper and put it on poster board for another $15. A canvas map would cost you a lot more.
Most likely a game of 1942 with a bunch of new guys is going to take a good chunk of time. A game of global with a bunch of new guys could take up an entire weekend.
You could just play either E40, or P40. It would take less time game-wise, but still has more rules to slow you down.I’d say 42 just because your friends haven’t played before. Good luck in your decision.

Thanks. I skimmed through the book one more time before asking, but couldn’t find anything.
