    • RE: You sunk my BattleBoat!

      Id probably take 2 destroyers.  I never buy a battleship after any I have are sunk.

      No, those moves on the carrier count as fighter moves too.

      Imagine that the plane takes off and is flying nearby the carrier.  I know it doesnt make sense, but thats the easiest way to look at it.

      Switch made a '41 scenario, if I recall correctly.

      Ive never played online, so Ive always followed the rules to do different combats at different times.

      Well maybe she meant when theres a possibility to lose an aircraft for not much gain.

    • RE: When do YOU retreat?

      Pretty much what Jen said, I dont like losing any planes, but I can live with some armor dropping off of the map.

      Its not very often I find myself retreating.  Theres a few moments each game where I have to strafe, so that calls for a retreat, and sometimes with Germany it takes me one round of combat to weaken Moscow before the final push.

    • RE: What would you pay for a 2/1 unit?

      @froodster:

      Don’t say “just fodder” - if you are playing D&D, would you ever just say, “Oh, it’s just extra hit points”? Fodder is as important, if not more so, than punch.

      I probably would.  HP is already a part of the game and is at its core the same as fodder, just like infantry are already part of axis and allies and are typically used as fodder and not main attacking units.  Adding a way cheap unit to the game is kind of throwing off the balance.  Buy tons of 0/1 units for 1 IPC each and then get a few tanks and planes and youre on a roll.

      And by the way, I ran one D&D campaign ever, and I didnt really like the system.  My friends said it was too hard to learn (but it really wasnt) but I felt it was kind of dice heavy.

      @Cobert:

      But really, i dont like the idea of any unit being 0/1

      So you don’t like the idea of a transport then?

      Ugh, you knew what I was saying.

      Transports serve a bigger purpose.  A 0/1 unit is just fodder and you might as well spend one more IPC to build something that defends better and can attack.

      How dare you accuse engineers of being mere walls!

      But really, i dont like the idea of any unit being 0/1 or 1/0.  A 2/1 unit would cost 3.

    • RE: How long?

      We start playing, order a pizza, when it arrives we devour it in about 10 minutes, and then we finish playing.

      Usually takes about 4 1/2 hours.

    • RE: Japan Strategies

      I like 3 transports, 2 infantry.

      Depending on what american does, I might build an IC on J2.

      I never go for the US as Japan, but if Germany takes the UK and the games not over (depdning on your personal winning conditions), its always fun to have German invade eastern canada and japan invade western to make the US freak out.

      @Sankt:

      @Cobert:

      If I remember correctly, they had 2 subs in seazone 26, but that was after japan was terribly outnumbered and retreated back to the indian ocean.

      Yeah, dood! I think we’ve set the OP straight!

      HAHAHAHAHA

      There was more than that, but that was the force in SZ26.  All around the atlantic, heading south, were 3 more subs and a destroyer, plus a bomber on brazil.  They really didnt want me to take out their transports.

      @rjclayton:

      @Cobert:

      try the channel dash, which rarely works since the american player can be an a****** and send a transport to algeria to block the unification.  Like frimmel said, its hoping for the best.

      If US uses a transport blocker to algeria, can’t Germany just take it out in combat with your fighters and still get your med fleet to SZ7 in non-combat?

      Ive made the embarassing mistake before of landing most of my planes in norway and having only one in weu to face a transport and a destroyer.Â

      I dont know who said it, but I agree with whoever said they like having control of the mediterannean.

    • RE: SEA ZONE-26, what the…

      I came clse to having a battle in the south atlantic once.  Japan was having problems because american was sending tons of troops into algeria and marching across africa towards india, but they couldnt use the mediterannean because germany had a battleship there and japan had an aircraft carier with 3 german fighters. Neither side had enough of a force to attack one another, so I just let american offlod since they were doing too much harm.  Eventually, I sent a japanese battleship, sub, and useless transport around south africa to disrupt allied shipping, but american built a couple of subs and chased me down. If I remember correctly, they had 2 subs in seazone 26, but that was after japan was terribly outnumbered and retreated back to the indian ocean.

    • RE: German buys turn one

      I switch it up, sometimes I go with the carrier to protect the baltic (and from landing my fighters in weu ive had some nice opportunities to steal the UK from right under their noses) with 4 INF 3 RTL, then sometimes I go 5 INF 5 RTL 1 ARM and try the channel dash, which rarely works since the american player can be an a****** and send a transport to algeria to block the unification.  Like frimmel said, its hoping for the best.

      I once bought 1 DES 1 TRN 5 INF 1 ARM and went heavy into africa.  it was a wierd game, Germany went heavy africa and moved into india and Russia had trouble breaking germanys massive walls of infantry moving east.  Eventually the allies reinforced russia and beat germany back though.

      hard decision, either UK because you control territory all around the world, and Japan because of theres a lot of different options of attack.
