    • Bigworld 1942 strategies

      Im new to playing on the Bigworld42 map, and Im just trying to compile some basic strategies and do-or-die moves for the first few turns.

      Also, if Russia loses Leningrad or Stalingrad, is Russia completely screwed?

      Thanks in advance.

    • RE: Can't Seem to Win as Allies,…Help!

      It sounds like an 8VC game if they lose when India falls.

      As the allies, I usualy set up one big UK funnel into eastern europe, and with the US, I harass all of the mediterranean, and Russia builds infantry and a few artillery to prepare for a big breakout.  With the allies coming at all sides, Germany is bound to collapse at one point or another, usually when the US takes Southern Europe and when Russia reaches eastern europe to help the UK on the offensive.

      That funnel into EEU really messs up germany, especially since it seems most german players use that route to move troops east.

      Ive seen some strategies where the US just uses the existing eastern transports to move troops into africa or up to britain while they build a pacific fleet and hit japan where it hurts, but I dont like to spread out the US resources.  Japan really is a bitch when they get rolling though, 4 transports of troops each turn can be disheartening.

      I once played a noob that got lucky with bad allied buys. He bought 2 bombers for the UK and US on their first turns, and the German economy collapsed.  The only reason I didnt disentigrate in the first few turns was because of my extra IPCS i got from having no resistance in africa.

      @triforce:

      I’m just curious, because I’ve never known a female (apart from Jenifer) who likes this game.  My wife for instance refuses to have much to do with it.  To her it looks like grown men playing with little green army men. :lol:

      It probably looks that way because it actually is grown men playing with little green army men.

      also, i am all that is man.

    • RE: India Fleet to the Med?

      But germany will still lose some stuff in the process of taking out the fleet.  The fleet isnt there to survive , its there for a distraction.  Its a big target.

      Every time I keep the fleet in the indian ocean intact, it goes something like this:  I keep the fleet down there to keep japan on their toes and playing fair (no unguarded transports), I never get an opportunity, then I end up getting chased around by a japanese fleet and wishing I could do something more productive than just running away.

    • RE: India Fleet to the Med?

      Move the fleet into the Med.  I do this if I have Suez control even if the destroyer there was sunk.  Then, as the USA, go completely KJF, just maintaining a garrison of infantry on the west coast and west canada.  Asll of your IPC’s should be directed towards europe.

    • RE: Invading gray terriories.

      Im putting together some rules right now to play Europe and Pacific at the same time (some made up, others adopted from different strategy games), and the power in control of west germany (I split germany in 2 territories) has shore guns into the danish sea, acting like anti-aircraft for boats.  This split country and shore guns is made to deter any amphibious assault into Germany.  I wanted the allies to land in france and have an epic struggle to cross the rhine, not just have a ton of fighters and 2 transports of land units drop into germany and end one entire theatre of operation.

    • RE: Bidding??

      Well with 1 IPC you could get 2 transports and an IC on japans first turn, but I wouldnt advise building an IC on J1.

    • RE: Hey, remember that time when….

      In the game I just played, japan attacked 3 us transports (unguarded) using 2 planes and a battleship.

      First round, Japan only gets one hit, us gets 2.  Sucks for japan, but they wanted to get rid of those 3 transports.  Next round, japan gets one hit and USA gets another one as well.  Now its a battleship against a transport, and japan was so intimidated…they retreated.  Next turn they tried again using just a battleships, and they didnt hit while america did, forcing another retreat for fear of losing a battleship.

      The transport was eventually destroyed, but that weak fleet took down 2 planes with it, and nearly sank a battleship.

    • RE: How do you typically play the Americans?

      2 cvs is what I usually buy for kjf.

      My entire allied turn is usually pretty much the same every game as britain and russia,  i go KJF or KGF depending on who looks weaker on US1.

      It reeeeeaaally pisses me off when I ahve just enough transports to carry my land army for a big invasion, then i have to take some of them away from an airstrike on my fleet.

      Would submarines be better in some instances though for fodder, in place of transports?

      @Imperious:

      Yea but they cant hit planes. Planes can attack them and they cant shoot back. Id have them for fodder but use them with surface fleets as soakers.

      Well they can submerge, so you might lose one or two out of your group.

      Its still great though when you sink an aircraft carrier then submerge, and the planes have nowhere to land.

      From the central US?

      Because a direct amphibious assault would be crazy.

      I once played a 12 VC game with an axis win.  The US still had nothing but washington, and the other powers were out (germany took UK by surprise).  It was a hell of a siege, we ended up calling it quits because we got bored rolling for americas huge stacks of infantry or japan and germanys constant assaults from central US and Canada.

      I pretty much do what way2slo said.

      Dont waste your money on a pacific fleet.  Just garrison enough infantry to protect from a surprise west coast invasion, or build up there if you see japan in position. Since the german navy isnt usually a big threat, you dont have to worry much about protecting your transports to europe.

    • RE: You sunk my BattleBoat!

      @ncscswitch:

      Depends on fleet purpose:

      If purpose is defense of your fleet from air and sea attacks, then 2 DST’s
      If attacking the enemy fleet is the object then 3 SUBs
      If using your fleet to support amphibs (with no major air and naval counter-attack risk… 1 BB.

      Subs are kind of underestimated. I never see any of my opponents buying them.  They dont realize that if I have 3 or 4 subs in one group, I could do a TON of damage to their fleet which is lacking a destroyer.
