I play without a bid, and my standard first turn buy is 3 transports and 2 infantry, and if the kwangtung transport managed to not be destroyed, then I make it 2 Trans/1 sub/1 inf. I wait until turn 2 to buy and IC, along with a transport. It helps to really move the troops off of the home island quickly and break into russia early with amphibious assaults. the IC usually goes in indochina since the 4 transports are shutling troops off to the soviet far east.

RE: Can Germany win without Africa?
Possible, but it seems unlikely. You need ttht african income to halt UK’s transport buys and so you can afford losing WRus and Ukraine to the Russians without it seriously hurting you.

RE: War between the states 1861-1865
I feel like artillery should defend on a 4. Looking at the unit stats, I would ask them to attack on a 3, but that means theyre only as powerful on attack as cavalry. Having attack on a 4 and defense a 3 seemed odd since a group of cannons on top of a hill firing at the oncoming enemy seems like it deserves a higher or at least equal power to one trying to shoot at fortified defenders.
And I was a bit unsre if I liked the rule where the person losing more units has to retreat, it seemed like it would make a lot of the game haveing 2 big armies moving back and forth between a single space, but then I read on where the defender didnt have to retreat from a victory city, so that became fine by me.
A few places seemed like they needed reworded in the rules, such as the victory conditions. I assume you mean the south needs 10 more victory cities than they start with.
Overall the game looks great. Which side usually wins when you play?

RE: Teh ULTAMIT GERMAN STRATEGI!!!!1!!?
ha, that reminds me of the game im in right now against a new player (kind of, hes played a couple of games). We always play Risk together, and today, as russia, he asked me as Japan if we could make a border alliance between Buryatia and Manchuria.

RE: Capital trading
Wow.
I always thought, for example, that Karellia only could supply IPC’s to Russia or an Axis power that controlled it, but I guess I was wrong.

This game looks nice, I like your rules for cavalry covering retreat, and some of the optional rules you made.

RE: Strategic bombing your way to a win
Haha, I once lost a fighter AND a bomber on the same attack on one transport without killing it.

RE: War between the states 1861-1865
Im kind of curious about this and some of the rules, and It would be nice if you would explain the basic mechanics of a few of them, like how the commanders work and the union blockade and such.
EDIT: and victory conditions, since the souths goal wasnt to take over the union,so try to explain that too.

RE: How do you respond to Sea Lion threat as UK?
Cobert, do you know what the japanese player did?
Unfortunately, no. Probably just movinghis planes in position so in his next turn he could land them on britain.

RE: How do you respond to Sea Lion threat as UK?
I was told a story once about a quite experienced player that actually managed to lose Britain in the 4th round. I dont know how it happened exactly, but I know the german player stayed very calm and slipped the Japanese player a note explaining that he could take Britain and telling him how he needed to help.

I dont think they can.

RE: Free For All Battle - Looking for Rules
You’re welcome.
I suggest we make a thread to generally discuss Free-for-all games and strategy, or just use this one, because about half of the games I play are like this.
I’d like to point out that with my way of playing (3 powers survive), Germany and the US almost always make it to the final 3 (but whichever one of them takes another powers capitol will probably win overall) and the smaller power with best defense will win. In my next game, as Germany or the US, im going to try to just go all out on the other major power, just to see if I can take the biggest threat out and secure a victory.
When we play, we change the rules so that when a capitol is taken, the captor takes half of the owners money, and the owner can still build in any other territory with an IC, but they only generate money from the territory with the IC in it and the territories surrounding it (so they can try to get their capitol ack easier). Its always entertaining to see a capitol get taken away, also. When Moscow gets bulldozed by Germany, all of the other nations make a mad dash to either steal Russias other territories they cant defend or to capitalize on other players weakening themselves while heading towards Russia, its great.

RE: How do you respond to Sea Lion threat as UK?
Que?
UK can’t buy 5 transports on UK1. It would cost $40, and UK only has $30 to begin with?
And what 6 arm + 6 inf are you referring to? UK do not start out with that amount of forces anyway? :?Confusion…  :?Â
He’s asking what to do if Germany buys 5 transports.

RE: How do you respond to Sea Lion threat as UK?
Move your fleet into position to block an easy landing (maybe forcing them to lose a transport or 2 if they attempt it), buy some tanks to place for when (if) they break through. If your fleet is out of reach, buy a ton of infantry. If you dont have a fleet, then your future isnt looking to bright with the UK.

RE: Free For All Battle - Looking for Rules
Ive played a game like this, and I decided to play until 2 powers were eliminated, then go by IPC’s to determine the winner.
First, Russia was eliminated. This took some time, as there was a good border alliance with Germany (really helped both players).
Next, Japan was bloackaded by a massive american fleet and they were taken out next.
Britain survived by ignoring trying to save IPC’s and instead defending their capital. They placed third.
Germany placed second, getting half of africa and the middle east, and the valuable european Russia territory.
The United States won. They controlled the other half of africa and dominated the pacific, and controlled the asian part of Russia.

RE: KGF
Alsol Id like to ask about 2 strategies im toying wiht,
First, to take pressure off of the germans, I decided that invading Alaska is a complete mindfuck. And, if the americans are avoiding the japanese threat in alaska, and if the Japanese are near40 IPCS, building an IC there really makes the americans spazz out and forget about building transports for a turn and care only about securing the central US and blocking Japan at Canada and eliminating those transports that got the troops there.
Also, Ive been thinking about how to make a big spearhead type attack, where Russia converges their forces into one HUGE army that Germany wouldnt dare to attempt to attack, and using a few infantry and armor to trail behind the army and protect the spearheads gains.
