      @newpaintbrush:

      Next time, post the constraints that you are operating under.

      I don’t like to waste time.

      –

      Trying to take London without tech is not an effective strategy unless you have a transport bid in the Baltic, or unless your opponent does not respond properly to your G1 move.  There are lines of play that use Baltic transports to maintain a threat on London while accomplishing other objectives, but those are not strictly Sea Lion plays.

      Well sorry about that then.

      Just got into caspian sub.

      Ehh, we dont play with Tech rolls, those are out.

      I get that its just for fun, but I was wondering If I could make it an effective strategy.

      Im not doubting its reckless, I was just trying to figure out a way to make the least reckless possible.  In the game I tried in in that mightve been an allied win, the mediterranean distraction helped Japan get to Moscow. Still, it seems very situational, not something you try every game.  I needed something new to change the bland ‘try for africa / attack russia’ approach.

      But it doesnt HAVE to go to the UK, we all said that you could rob IPCs from numerous other territories.

      You know, you got me, Im just in it for the ladies.

      I would normally do a tank dash to Moscow, but this was just too tempting and Japan was inching towards Moscow anyways.

      Because of his bad buys and lack of any UK ariforce except what he already had, he was almost forced to start buying land units, so UK was out of the question.  I used my Med fleet to take out all of the tiny british fleet, invade Brazil, E. Canada, and retake Norway.  With Japan at the gates of Moscow, the USA surrounding Japan, a massive German IPC income for the next few turns, and 5 days of play under our belts, we called a draw.

      I never save IPC’s either, I dont like having more than 2 left over.  And it seems like the UK would realize youve been saving IPC’s (probably for an oh-so-pricy naval build), and all of the allies would get defensive for at least one turn.

      I really like this strategy though, with building a Med fleet and taking over a lot of empty allied territory as germany as once.  I tried it in another game as the axis, and the synchronized axis invasion of both Canadian territories led to the US building all land units to defend their homes, and eventually to Japan taking over all of Russia.  Its the winter of 44 and the axis just need to take Leningrad to win the game. It shouldnt be hard either, since the Luftwaffe will blow away all of britains frail navy next turn.

      Yeah, thats what I was planning if he noticed (attack into brazil and west africa, and if I have units in ukraine I could try and take Caucasus) except my attack was from seazone 13, but I kind of like your idea better. A lot more territory is threatened, and I know he wont be t hiking about panama and such being threatened.

    • Best way to sneak up on UK

      Im trying to pull Operation Sea Lion in a game Im playing, but Im trying to keep my plans kind of under the radar.
      Britain is lightly defended, having only 2 destroyers together in seazone 6, 2 UK bombers and one US boomber, 2 tanks, and 2 fightersm while I have 2 destroyers in sea zone 3. Hes concentrating more on bombimg germanys economy down to nothing, and Im rolling badly on anti-aircraft.Â

      Im thinking of buying a transport, 1 infantry, 1 artillery every turn and alternating between placement in the med and baltic.  My first turn I do this im going to build a destroyer in the baltic. Ill move my land unit buys to transport things around into western europe, algeria, and Gibraltar, so theres not any one massive buildup, and all touch the same sea zone. Then, the turn before, Ill throw all of my air force into western europe. To defend against Russia, Im going to use the remaining IPC’s after transport buys for infantry as fodder.

      How would you guys go about this?  Even if you normally wouldnt, how would you if you were going to?

    • RE: Fighter/Carrier Movement Question

      It doesnt cost any extra movement points to land on a carrier, its as if you were able to land on a sea zone.

      For example, you could fly from a carrier in the East Indies, attack India, and land back ont he carrier.

    • RE: Best Sentence EVER!

      @SSG:

      Interesting!  In English comp class, we were assigned to make a logical sentence starting with the word “that” five times consecutively.  Same theory of construction. :-P

      That doesnt really seem that hard though.

      Yes, and if Japan takes them back, it doesnt really help them out as much as an Allies Asain mainland IC would do under Japanese capture.

      Thats what I was thinking, an IC in Borneo as UK throwing out a navy and then later some land units to shuttle around. In another game Ive played I did this and it worked prety well, it was well defended from Japanese assault and I built a massive airforce that wiped out the Japanese navy early on.

      I get the feeling this person wont run a ‘well played’ japan if they somehow managed to NOT take China on J1.  It wasnt even bad dice, it was just horrible planning.

      This guy isnt even new to the game, hes played it a couple of times, hes just new to japan.

      If no IC’s are better, then how can I quickly kill off Japan, orat least contain them to their home island so I can steal their VC’s?

      This is turning into a ‘KJF quick’ thread.

      No, this is really a game, and they didnt have enough attack power towards China and failed miserably and didnt even dent it.

    • RE: Which is worse for Japan…

      Well lets just say on J1 China isnt held, and Im thinkg about moving everything back into Sinkiang (save one infantry blocker) and building and IC there, and the Japanese will probably build an IC in French Indochina, and Im thinking about just placing some infantry on India every turn to match up with them so they wont have any overwhelming force.  Pretty much, Im considering holding off the Japs until the US player can finish off the Japanese navy and pick off islands, and im just thinking which IC could do better.  Asian IC’s seem to just be a bad choice early, but the japanese mainland is weak right now and they dont have many transports.

      I would say it is.

      I never thought about that strategy.  Then again, I never play with NA’s.

      @cyan:

      other option waas without the bid because you said no bid before the longer 2trn,2tanks and 1 art bid was for without a bid. 2x8+2x5+4+30. the 2trn, 1ic was for with the bid. 16+15=31

      I see I see.

      I still like to build 3 transports or 2 and a sub (depends on kwangtung transport), since I like having 4 in the water by turn 2.

      @cyan:

      why the sub why not 2 transports and ic if you have a 1ipc bid if not then 2tanks and 1 artillery you have 8inf in the immediate vicinity of japan that can transport in 1 turn. only 2 other unites other tan inf. that balances it out more i try to complament my tanks with inf not the other way around when it comes to transports…

      We dont play with a bid though, so that lucky 1 IPC bid isnt available.
