The US has to take Santa Isabel, Malatia and evict the remaining Japanese from Guadalcanal on turn one. They have to get even on reinforcement points.

I think the Japanese are better off on turn 1 being in a position to contest New Georgia if necessary, they can get enough together to make it unattractive to the US, but moving the supplies back to build an additional airfield on the island they start with an airfield on. (Map is fuzzy in my head for some reason today.)

The game is short and both sides must move fast but at the same time remember they can’t win it on turn one. IMO.

Again, just make sure VASSAL is configuration-based enough.  if you have to code to make changes then I’d look at one of the more polished products.

Battlegrounds has stated on their website that they are working on a wargamer-specific tabletop version of their software.  Id be curious to know how that is comiong  along…

That being said VASSAL has been around for a while and lots of games have been ported to it so I know its pretty solid.

You can participate in this campaign on three different levels: strategic board game, War at Sea Miniatures (for the naval engagements) and Axis & Allies Miniatures (for the ground battles).

Just saw the Turn- 2 Results and options for Turn-3 posted for the current Avalon Hill Guadalcanal online campaign and was disappointed that none of my AAR’s or narratives were posted. I have no idea if my efforts of playing all these games solo are making any difference in the campaign or if “High Command” is even reading them. Some sort of weekly results tabel or chart would have gone far to alleviate that.

Maybe I do need to switch to Flames of War like my brother has been bugging me to do for over a year now. At least they have a published ranking system and you know where you stand in their gaming community.

Its that same as if an adjacent soldiers trys to enter your soldiers hex.  You can take your DF shpt at him in his starting hex or his dest hex.  Same is true of a tank…

Yes a lot of the big games at Historicon were run by goofballs. Late starts, let more people play than were signed up, and other “gamemaster” antics diminshed the enjoyment of more than one game for me. I still enjoyed myself though and hope to repeat next summer.

Steve needed more help at A&AM station. Cobalt at least helped a good bit with managing the younger players at various periods through the days. WOTC should seek volunteers on this forum to help run games.

I would suggest that WOTC also set up a mini-tournament at Historicon next year where folks would play at leats three games with different gamers. Maybe on Thursday or Friday, and then run demos on Saturday and Sunday.

What area?

The previous link for the Guadalcanal miniatures campaign alternates between Axis & Allies Miniatures battles and War at Sea Battles. It does not tie in with their Guadalcanal board game. I don’t think they have yet to combine all three games into one campaign. I’d like to try something like that at my local game scene because I think it would be to difficult to do via PBEM.

Hey Audacity, maybe you should consider the “Play By Email” option for A&AM here on this forum. True, a 100 point game can take a week or two to play, but I enjoy the pace and the ability to do a well thought out turn in a day or two. Plus, its a great way to experiment with different force builds.
