    • RE: Tragedy

      I hate to sound heartless here, but who cares?
      It’s a night club fire in Brazil, I don’t live in Brazil, ergo I don’t care what happens to them. Is it sad that human life was lost? Yes, of course. Should I take a moment to think about the “victims” and their families? Maybe, at least moment. Should I give a crap that a bunch of adults died in a fire while dancing, drinking, and trying to get laid because their country is horribly corrupt and the place wasn’t up to fire code? No, not at all, that would be the local Brazilians problem, not mine.

      Sorry but I fail to see how this is really a “tragedy”, or one worth discussing here.

      The colleague mentioned that one of the things he wanted to do during his trip was “drink Canada Dry.”  My friend commented, “That sounds rather ambitious.”

    • RE: Gas Attacks

      In this instance I am prepared to say that, WWLD can be easily answered with the statement “making a shameless cash in at the opportune moment”. I hate to sound bitter, but it is clear that Larry neither understands nor respects the subject matter he is dealing with. WOTC would like him to make a big sack of money form them and saw an opportunity. Us historians and students of the period are noting but a bunch of insignificant gnats buzzing in the ear of a giant who can drown us out by stuffing more of the money it’s going to make of this title in its ear.

      @Imperious:

      Adding another unit is not KISS.

      MY idea may not have been that simple but asking the player to do simple math is not KISS either.  It’s much eaiser to just have them make an extra roll to represent the number to tokens equal to the size of the gas attack they are doing the have them add and subtract and then divide while the moon is in the second house of Jupiter or whatever. It would be much simpler to have them simply say “I am using 3 gas attack tokens, so I’ll make a roll for each token and check the results”

    • RE: Gas Attacks

      The easiest way to implement a gas attack system would be to have the player buy tokens to represent gas canisters(after possibly researching it), and allow them to assign them to what ever artillery units are on the map. Then if that unit of artillery is allowed to bombard it can choose to launch a gas attack. One token would allow for the following (the number of attacks you can launch is equal to the number of tokens you have)

      The gas attack would consist of rolling to hit and if successful then rolling a further D6 to see how many enemy units are effected by it. If successful, units hit by this are reduced to a defensive roll of 1 or removed as casualties depending on the system being used(if a system of higher and lower quality of infantry is in place, then lower quality units are out right removed as casualties without getting to roll to counter while higher quality units are reduced to 1). IF the roll to hit misses, roll the same as above but against yourself.

      There also appears to be a meercat on the box - just below the Kaizer’s hand.

      If you are talking about the image below his right hand, I believe that is supposed to be Sgt. York

      http://gma.yahoo.com/breaking-conn-school-district-locked-down-shooting-report-151955384–abc-news-topstories.html

      This happened in my home state today, about 15mins up the road from where I live. In fact I drive past it everyday on my way to work. In the summer they have a day camp for the kids and if I was running late I would get stuck at a crosswalk while 20 children, no more then 5 or 6 years old, would cross the road all holding hands to go to the lake for a swim with a few camp workers watching over them. I can’t help but think that some of the children I saw in that group were some of those slain today. I remember one of two of the braver students turning to wave at the cars waiting to go, I would always smile and wave back. This just breaks my heart too much.

    • RE: When AA1914 will really be ready.

      @KrisBeKreame:

      I have always been curious of Battlecry. What is it similar to? What is the gameplay like?

      It was actually was pretty well made, I really have enjoyed the games i’ve played, even if I do wind up getting stuck as the Reb’s more often then not (not that I really mind but it would be nice to be the Union once and a while). The thing it plays most like is a table top game, however the rules are vastly simpler and the game play much more intuitive and quicker. A basic game can take anywhere 30mins to and hour to play through while a more complicated scenario, like Gettysburg, can take up to two hours to play, providing you play through the full three day scenario.

      @Flashman:

      Why no 150th anniversary Civil War game?

      There was, it was released back in April of 2011 and it was called Battlecry, I bought and have played several games of it, it’s quite good.

    • RE: Playable Nations in 1914

      @ghr2:

      Why have the Ottomans playable if your just going to gimp them to all hell?.

      I think the best way to represent the Ottomans and their inability to produce modern arms will be to just have them have a really small economy, kinda like Italy in G1940. Flashman is absolutely correct in his appraisal of Ottoman capabilities and their absolute lack of modern industry and infrastructure. In game terms I think it will be represented by a poor economy and alot of poor or no value territories outside of the Turkish heartland. You will probably see a scenario where the Ottoman forces within what we would consider Turkey to be quite robust and powerful, especially on the defensive (think Galipoli), while those in the rest of the Empire will be weak and unsupported (maybe they could pose a threat to allied positions in the region in the beginning rounds but not for long).

      To put it much shorter terms, “FDR was prepared to take whatever steps necessary to make America do the right thing in a tumultuous time period”, or at least that’s what I took away from all that.

    • RE: Playable Nations in 1914

      @Flashman:

      Another “playable nation” is Bolshevik Russia. If that country is forced into Revolution, the Bolsheviks take over some of Russia and its units; the remainder are still controlled by the Allies.
      Germany controls the Bolsheviks, who cannot move outside Russia. Indeed, every country can be split in this way if it suffers continual defeats.

      Is this actually stated to be in the game or is this just something you’ve come up with? Because I really woldn’t like to see that in a game.

      The Playable factions will be:
      Russian Empire
      German Empire
      British Empire
      French Third Republic
      Kingdom of Italy
      Austro-Hungarian Empire
      Ottoman Empire
      United States of America

      these countries represent the major combatants of the war with Honorable mention going to Serbia, however being so small a nation it would be virtually impossible to represent them as a separate faction with in game terms.
