    • RE: Alpha +3 Observations

Has anyone tried this to help out Russia?

On the first turn of Ger invasion of Russia, UK flies 1-2 fighters to Leningrad or Archangel (if somehow Ger took Len.). If Japan goes after Russia, UK India (helped by the Aussies) starts pounding away at Japs Southern Pacific tt’s. Should this not impeed Japan and boost India’s strength? And can not the UK forces in India actually move to help in Russia? Yes I know Russia loses their NO, but who cares when its traded for a plane or 2 each turn. Once America comes in, they can also help shift units to Russia, even to SFE tt’s to offset Japan (US builds factory and NB on Alaska).
Doesn’t this seem viable as I have read here that Russia will last at least until R8?

    • RE: Space issue.

Do what I did. I converted 1/2 of my garage into a wargaming space. I have a 6’ X 14’ table built out of 2X4’s and particle board. Works real well with Global. We have a 6 member group.

    • RE: What is making Alpha 2+ unbalanced?

My vote is Italy is too weak, sort of. If the fleets are combined, she would be in a much better position. If UK still wants to take out her fleet, then the UK will pay dearly in planes/fleet. This would make a sea-lion very possible for Germany. Something the UK would want to avoid.
I also agree that it would be good to move the UK inf/plane in Normandy to the UK. This makes sea-lion very difficult for Germany. Not impossible, but very difficult.
I do not think Russia is too strong. A prepared Russia should be difficult to take out and it should take more than 4-5 turns. Thats just the way it should be.

    • RE: What is making Alpha 2+ unbalanced?

I’ve read alot on this forum and have played 4 games with my group. 5 player games. We came out with 1 allied win, 2 axis with the last probably an allied (game was called due to time). Our longest game lasted 15 turns with an axis win.
I am against adding anything to the Germans. If you add anything, it will make sea-lion a win for Germany regardless of what the UK does. Do not make sea-lion an absolute win. As the British, why would you ever want to play the game? Just to lose I guess.
Back to Germany. In every game I have played based on WWII (and I have been gaming for 30 years), Germany has the one question it faces after France falls: Do I go after England, or do I go after the SU? The historical path should always be easier to do. Sea-Lion should be a nightmare for Germany to attempt. There should be the chance that Germany could win it if everything went right, but the normal outcome should be a loss for attempting. What am I basing this on? Simple, it is the fact that Germany could in no way possible match England’s navy, nor secure the channel for a supported attempt of sea-lion in this short of a time frame. It is a game, so give them a chance.
Now Italy. Its easy to fix the first turn Italy problem. Combine the navy. Probably in the sea zone next to Albania (don’t have the board out, so don’t have the zone numbers). What do you think about that ? It would make Italy’s fleet much more survivable especially if there are German planes in S.Italy after G1.
I wouldn’t mess with the Soviet set-up. To us, its fine as is.
      UK is fine.
France is fine except maybe too much navy? Also should be an Inf in FIC.
Japan is tough to gauge. Here is the problem with the Japan/US relationship. America is Japans largest supplier of raw materials, especially oil. Japan is at war with China and the US doesn’t like that too much. This game allows Japan to go whole hog into China without any penalties. In reality, Japan engaged in moderate offensive activity in China and the US cut off here trade with Japan. This one thing forced Japan to do Pearl Harbor. It was that, or run out of fuel for Japan’s fleet. Right now, Japan is allowed to do whatever they want in China, and the US declares war at the end of turn 3. Kind of ok, but Japan doesn’t get its surprise attack. Don’t know exactly what to do about this, but there should be some link between Jap aggressiveness and US production/ability to war dec.
Other than that, I think Alpha2+ is pretty well balanced.

    • RE: THE AXIS ARROWHEAD - Italian Aircraft meet German Armor.

Really Garg? Yes I have 4 posts total (now 5). Big deal. I would probably crush you beyond belief in any game you name. Ever play Europa? 1000 pages of rules? I didn’t think so. I’ve been playing wargames since 1970’s. So don’t run your useless mouth.

Now, all I’m saying is that it is very difficult for a person to play a game where someone else is always telling him/her what to do. We often have 5 or 6 players and it is a whole different story. Many of these strats discussed here would not work in a group. Thats because people have different personalities and different thoughts on how to do things.

As you have porbably ONLY played with your PC your whole life Garg, you would not know that would you?

Never work in our games. How do you convince an Italian player to give up playing the game. “Here, you do nothing but build planes and service the Germans”. Too much of this forum speaks ONLY to 1 on 1 games.

    • RE: How is the balance with the new Alpha 2 changes? Please give your view.

      Greetings,
I’m new to posting on the boards but I have an idea about the USA. It could be done in a somewhat historical fashion.
      1. All US forces are frozen at starting positions except West Coast. The US can build in the PAcific and move only between US west coast and Europe board freely (don’t remember SZ numbers for shortest route). If the US moves forces from West Coast to Hawaii Those forces are now frozen (remember the US fleet was moved to Pearl as a warning to Japan or something like that).
      2. US DOW triggers:
          A. Japan DOW on UK/ANZAC
          B. Japan takes all of China.
          C. Japan attacks USA.
          D. USA combat move turn 4.  Note no NO’s on T3.
      3. Japan loses FIC NO after taking 3 China territories (Jap agression in Asia causes US embargo).
      4. If Japan DOW USA before turn 4, conduct a special sneak attack turn. ALL US forces outside of the WEST Coast defend at a 1.

This would actually encourage Japan to actually attack the US before T4. It somewhat forces them to if they are agressive in Chian (loss of NO).
And it also give Japan the ability to do a Pearl Harbor.
FYI: We play this game with 5-6 people in a club and it is a whole different game vs 1 on 1. We use Alpha +2. As of now we have had more victories as Axis than Allies, but overall think it is somewhat balanced depending on players.

    • RE: A&A Global ALPHA 2 - IPC (& More) Log Sheet - 11x17

      Hi all,
What I did for my group was raid 2 of my original 1980’s A&A games for the money. Now, instead trying to keep track with a pencil, we just dole out money.

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      Question:
In Global 1940, if on turn 1 the UK or ANZAC move land units into DEI, does UK or ANZAC collect the income from those islands? Japan is at war with China only and the US and USSR are neutral.
I think it does, but I just want to confirm.

      Thanks.
