Topic says it all! I’m looking for players in Central Indiana (willing to drive or host). Mostly looking for some G40, but I’m also open to play G42.2, AA50, and/or AAR.
Let me know!

It looks awesome! I wish there were production copies available….
Has anyone come up with a good idea for markers to denote key cities (a la AA50)? I’m thinking of either making some the size of scrabble tiles in Photoshop, printing them out on sticker paper, and adhering them to scrabble tiles, or getting some extra city markers from Fortress America and writing the names of the cities on the bottoms of them.
Thoughts?
They’re great games!
COIN stands for COunter INsurgency. Each of the games are 4 players, and they are card drive war games. But the way the cards work is there is an event on it. The person’s whose turn it is can either execute the event, or they can choose a unique ability they have for their faction. And whatever this player chooses, affects what the next person can do.
For example, say Player 1 executes the event. Now Player 2 can only pass or choose one other their unique operations.
It probably sounds really complex, but it’s really not. Each faction has a unique win condition and asymmetrical abilities. Lots of fun!
Is anyone else really excited about GMT’s newest COIN game, Liberty or Death: The American Insurrection?
I really am! Cuba Libre is without a doubt in my top 5 board games of all time, so I’m very anxious to get my hands on this one.
Because I really love Middle East Combat so much, I updated the rules to make it compatible with G42.2. Moreover, I had someone restore and update the map in Photoshop. If you would like to play this unofficial expansion, I have put everything you need in a zip file and made it available for download (for free).
In the zip file you will find an Excel file that contains the initial set up charts, a 600 dpi map, and a rules booklet. I had the map printed off through Vista print, but obviously you could get that done anywhere. You will also have to have a copy of Axis and Allies G42.2 (or G40 but your won’t use all the pieces).
Hopefully someone will try this out! It’s a fun variant!
I finally broke down and paid a king’s ransom for a copy of AA50. Now the task of pimping it out! Obviously the first thing on the list are those sweet, sweet combat dice. My question, do I need dice for China? Are they considered a separate country like G40 or are they just an arm of the US player like G42.2?
Do I need any other dice besides USSR, Germany, UK, Japan, USA, and Italy?
Sounds like you would have enjoyed Advanced Squad Leader :)
I am wanting to embark on a side project of modernizing the unofficial expansion, Middle East Combat with the 42.2 units/rules. My ultimate goal is to make all of the content available free. Anyway, I see lots of people here talk about how they have printed maps out on vinyl. Can someone please direct me to a good vendor for this?
Thanks!
You are correct about Russia.
The other world powers are not directly involved, but Russia hast to roll 2D6 every turn at the start of their turn. This determines special events in the world that affect the war. For example, one event is that the world powers meet with Russia and if Russia doesn’t attack that turn, they get 10 extra IPCs that turn.
This is a fictional conflict, but it is supposed to take place post WWII. In fact, every country starts with long range aircraft and rockets (from the original A&A rules).
I have to say this “expansion” is a delight! Currently I am working on seeing how compatible it is with the G42 rules. Since the “copyright” on this is from 93, I’m pretty sure this is public domain now. I’m heavily considering scanning in all of the components and making the files available on Boardgame Geek.
Germany is Turkey. That is to say, you use German pieces for the Turkish player.
Iran uses Japanese pieces.
USSR uses Russian pieces (duh)
Saudi/Egypt uses American pieces.
Iraq uses British pieces.
Has anyone ever played Middle East Combat from Magic and Tactics Unlimited?
It’s a an expansion where you use your A&A pieces with their map and modified rules. I recently was able to score a used copy for 3 bucks, and I pimped it out using pieces from Historical Boardgaming.
The game is actually a lot of fun, and I’m thinking of making a side project out of updating the rules to be compatible with G42 2ed rules/units. As well as scanning in the map, rules, and deployment cards so that anyone can get this as a print and play.
Below is a picture from my initial set up.

I play with a guy who loves heavy bombers and always tries to build them. They are quite destablizing when he gets them. What defenses (other than spreading out AA guns) can I use to defend against them?
I was playing this version for the first time today, and I’ve played revised and 84 dozens of times. The person I was playing with today has played Global before. He told me that you declare and resolve battles one at a time. Is this different from other versions? I’ve always thought you have to declare all combats at the same time, then resolve them one at a time.
Can someone confirm I’m not crazy or confirm this is a rule change?
This will sound silly, but I thought of a cool idea for a tournament/triathlon type event between two friends who are into war gaming. Basically you’d play the best of the three following games:
Idea 1: Axis and Allies 1914, Axis and Allies (any edition), and Twilight Struggle
Idea 2: Axis and Allies (any edition), Twilight Struggle, and Fortress America
Thoughts?
I think P.O.U. has to be kept in mind. A 6 hour series can’t contain all of the information. I feel it’s fine to gloss over things, especially if your target audience is people who know little about it.
That said, they probably should have tightened up that gas attack bit.
I enjoyed episode 2 and am excited for part 3 tomorrow.
