Maybe I will give this a try and see how far in I can push.

RE: KJF KGF and KIF?
I guess I was trying to think of ways to get America involved on mainland Asia but the just might not be realistic.

RE: Japan's Airforce???
I didn’t count before posting but the main point I was thinking of is Japan seems to have bit to many planes in non alpha set up. Not saying it makes the game unbalanced but I think it would be cooler to play a Japan with a better mixture of units.

RE: KJF KGF and KIF?
I am start learning with Amercia what to do in the Pacific. I am not sure how much fleet to build because the Japan airforce might waste my fleet if I do not build a sizeable fleet before launching.
-
RE: Japan's Airforce???
I am looking forward to playing Alpha as my group has not tried that yet. I am not sure the Axis need 28 planes to start.

RE: G2 Barbarossa
I am just curious what you built as your offensive army to defeat Russia and what were they building that you steamrolled them with Germany alone. My friend and I have played many games and we both consolidate the Russian forces and built only inf and art. The German player does the same mostly but has a longer line to reinforce the lines. Seems to me Japan is needed to help Germany with Russia but I may be missing something.

RE: Recipe for a G4 conquest of Moscow
So far it appears to me that playing against a skilled allied opponent that Germany can not beat Russia on it’s own except with insane dice luck or something. That does not mean the game is broken it just means that against a skilled allied player that cutting into Russia will be a joint venture by both Japan and Germany. Russia makes a lot of IPCs and Germany has to fight USA and Britan. For Germany to get a win on its on against a Russian opponent who builds only inf and art is going to be very hard especially when the allies land in Europe. Japan has to help Germany if the axis goal is too finish Russia off and take Moscow. That being said I am thinking of plans for the Axis that involve not having to take Moscow to achieve victory conditions.

THat is what I meant to say, I could have constructed my sentences better.

RE: Less obvious and surprising air unit routes: Post your catches here.
I found you can base Bombers on the air base in Gilbraltar and then fly them 6 spaces to the coast of Japan units convoy raiding WUS in the PACIFIC and then use the last space of movement to land in San Fran. I kept a destroyer waiting in central america to attack with the bombers in case I got convoy raided when I was spending all in the alantic.

RE: How to balance Global 1940?
I played the the against the axis before and I went all in alantic as the allies. Japan took Alaska and convoy raided WUS. He tried to load up transports to make an assault on San Fran. But then I built something along the lines of 25 inf in one turn of America spending with my 3 major factories and Japan could do nothing more. It wasn’t much longer that Berlin fell to all the spending I had been doing in the Alantic. Japan may have slowed me a turn or two but they were in no way near to threating Russia. I believe spending most points in the Alantic theather can work well for US.
That being said I have found it very effective to build up in Hawaii as America. It is still only two turns to Africa if you build one naval base. It keeps the Japan player guessing and if they don’t start building a good defensive force then I might go all in Pacific. If they do buy more Navy then I head for Africa and kill Italy and now Japan has built a bunch of stuff it doesn’t really need.
I have played about 15 games of Global so far with games ranging between 3 hour concessions and 15 hour long fights. The allies have won most games. A mistake I think I made as the axis that may have hurt though is trying to take Moscow with Japan. This is what I used to do a lot in 1942. Well with the victory city conditions in Global that does not fly anymore.

RE: Any experiences with a global J3 attack?
My friend and I have played close to 15 games of Global since we got it. (We were able to get a copy early and both of us are super nerds that have used a lot of our free time on this game.)
At first the allies kept winning and we thought the only way to go was for to Japan to attack early to get its economy moving. Yet last game he did a J3 as the axis and defeated me. He built mostly transports and men the first couple of rounds. He then moved everything in position and attacked J3. He was able to boost Japans economy by a ton in that one turn and kept the US at 52 points the first 3 turns.
Turns out US was just not able to crack Germany by a small margin at the end of the game. It definitely helped him that US had 60 less points to spend early.
I think there are merits to keeping US out of the war as long as possible. I used to think J1 was the way to go but have since revised my thinking. Also your plan to get IC on the mainland early sounds like a good idea. Hope everything goes well.

RE: USA Too many IPCs? Too much Power?
Germany needs every point it can get. It has to deal with a near 40 point Russia, Britan at 20-30, and then defend against mega America. Russia has the advantage of only really needed to buy art and inf which leaves them with a bargan basement army that can attack and defend well.
-
RE: Challenge
I have played about a dozen games now and there has been only one axis win and that was because I did something really dumb with Russia.
I think the axis are much harder to play. They have a super powerful county in Japan to match super powerful America but I think it is much easier to mess with Japan.
It seems to me the allies can have some bad dice luck and still win but if the axis get bad dice luck it can cost them the game because it takes them so long to get into position and they have less IPCs to replace lost units.

RE: Isnt the game just broken if USA builds a major factory in Norway?
Do you think that if Japan moves fast and crushes India it can beat the allies to Moscow or will they be too late?
-
RE: I got beat by the Axis
I am going to try it myself as axis to see it in action better but I believe the inf/art buy is an effective attack buy for Russia. Germany can build enough art so all their inf will attack on a 2. He did not attack russia untill turn four so it is a slow build up. But it becomes such a huge stack that it can force the Russians to retreat or stay and die. Also as it gets close to moscow it can then be reinforced with tank or plane buys to help in the assault.
It may not allow Germany to kill Russia but he took so many points from Russia that when America arrived and killed Italy it was facing a Germany with IPCs close to what it was spending itself. So at that point Germany started fighting the Americans. Germany did not build a Navy or Planes but it flew the Japan airforce to Europe and the turn I conceded the Japan Airforce could have destroyed my huge American Navy. I built a Navy strong enough that the German airforce could never touch it. I never thought I would face the Japan Airforce in Europe.
Finally we have tried Mechs and Tanks for Germany into Russia but if Russia buys inf and art and falls back at a certain point they can move forward and kill the mechs and tanks because there will not be enough units because they cost too much. This is not the case with german inf and art.
-
I got beat by the Axis
My opponent upgraded to a major industrial complex in Germany on G1. After that he spent all his points on art/inf every turn and sent a huge stack into Russia. His stack was able to grow more than mine because Germany has more points. It was much more effective than when he sent Mechs and Tanks against me before and I crushed them. I am thinking art and inf may be the way to go for Germany.
He also managed to fly the Japan Airforce into Europe. It was still a good game and I did not loss Moscow. America still captured Rome but Germany grew so big from capturing Russsian Terriorties and I knew Japan would kill Moscow before America could kill Germany. It may have been premature of me to think that the game has balance issues. I guess you just need to think and plan a little more with the axis.

RE: Isnt the game just broken if USA builds a major factory in Norway?
@Imperious:
Do you know that at least one of the play-tester groups had only 3 sessions to playtest the game?
Does that mean to you at least in that case it is enough to entirely discover any glitches in the game?
It took me one game to get to the conclusion that AAP40 had something wrong and Japan had way too many planes. I knew this by just looking at her setup sheet even before starting play.
I don’t know is AAE40 is balanced or not but my suspicion is after getting US to a point where they can hold Norway, i don’t seem to find a way to counter it by any means. That conclusion is FROM PLAYING GAMES FROM BOTH SIDES. Russia can’t fall by turn G5-7. Its impossible unless the player for Russia is incompetent.
Germany cant deal with 10 units pumping out. They must have a naval solution to counter this, and if it does not do it early it has little chance to recover IMO.
I hope i find a solution but it looks really bad.
I agree that it is major hard for Russia to fall to Germany if the person playing russia knows what they are doing. My friend and I were going to try the Germany Navy next to try get the troops needed to Moscow through Lennigrad. I am curious to see how it works. Every game we have played resulted in the Russian stacks getting too big for Germany to handle. We tried mechs and tanks but the russian stacks just grew too big. Germany just did not have points to build all those expensive units to take over Russia and still defend against America. Now we are thinking inexpensive art/inf shucks over by transports might work but I really don’t know how it will go till we try it at least once.
We both have concerns about the balance of the game because if America goes all in the Atlantic it is going to be really hard to stop them from landing somewhere in Europe, holding it, and popping up a major factory. At that point Germany is in major trouble to say the least. While Japan can grow to US point level, it can’t get major factories very close to Russia. So from our experience it is hard for Japan to get to Moscow before US can get to Berlin. Now my friend has tried going for victory cities as the axis and if America leaves the Pacific alone they can get quite a few but if America then blows a hole in Europe before Axis can get 14 victory cities they have no choice but to try and take an allied capital. Chances are at the point Rome or Berlin will fall to US first and then the axis are all but doomed.
We have played games where America spends in the Pacific and it can seriously mess with Japan if Japan does not take and hold Hawaii. US spending in Pacific is a viable way to get an allied win. The problem seems to be that spending all in the Atlantic is an even more viable way to win. My friend used Japan to try and attack the west coast of US and convoy raid but America can put down many cheap units in mainland and then Japan can’t really do too much. The convoy raids soon become ineffective because of America gaining points in Europe.
Maybe we just need more experience but we have not been able to find a way for Germany to Crack Russia and hold off America. I believe that if Germany does a turtle from the word go and just aims to take one Russian city that they could hold back America for quite some time but that seems like a boring way to play. We were hoping to use Germany to kill something.
People are shouting you down now IL about raising balance concerns but I suspect within 3-6 months you will here more people saying that you have valid points.

RE: Isnt the game just broken if USA builds a major factory in Norway?
I have not tried to push rule changes on anyone. I really don’t want to be the one tinkering around with how to balance the game. I don’t think I would be able to do that. 8 games is not enough to declare a game broken but I wanted to come online here and see if other people were having the same results and if so how to best deal with it. Maybe I am just bad as the axis and so is my group that I play with but time will tell. My one friend who is the best axis and allies player in my group is determined to win as the axis and keeps coming up with new ideas but so far nothing has worked. I don’t think I ever beat him twice in a row playing 1942 but if my count is correct I have now beaten him 6 times with the allies since global came out. Something is just fishy about that to me.

RE: Isnt the game just broken if USA builds a major factory in Norway?
I am starting to think the game may be broken. Me and my buddy have played 8 games so far and neither one of us has won as the axis. We played 1942 together many times and never saw a winning streak like that and we are about equal skill level though he is probably a little bit better than me. When American goes into Europe with force they have been unstoppable every time. We believe that if Italy and Germany turtle from round 1 then American might be able to be stopped but the have so many choices of landing zones off the coast of Africa and after that they will get a major factory in Europe unless the axis player is playing a great game. Now I have no idea how an axis player could get to Moscow while fighting off this stragedy from America. We have used Japan to try and mess with America but in the end if America builds a bunch of troops on its coast Japan can only do so much. Plus it slows Japan down big time if they bring the resources to the table to try and mess with America.
Maybe the problem is me and my friend but it is starting to not be as fun because the storyline each game has been Amercia saves the day.

RE: Playing my 8th game tonight, preparing for sealion, alaska attack combo.
Okay this was the most intersting game we have had to date.
On German turn one my friend bought an air craft carrier and a transport and a sub as Germany. He rolled bad when he attacked with his battleship and cruiser on German turn one. His cruiser died and his battleship was wounded. Also one of my destroyers off the coast of Great Brittan survived a sub attack. So I felt pretty confident I could stop his Sea lion dead in its track. I decided to only buy 5 inf for Britan and a minor industrial complex in Egypt as I wanted to beat Italy there. This was a mistake I attacked his remaining fleet Britan1 with my aircraft carrier, tactical bomber, and destroyer from off the coast of Gibralter. I also brought in my destroyer that lived off the coast of Brittan and the 3 fighters I had staged in Brittan. I had the advantage in wounds and attack dice. Sadly I rolled bad and it was mutual annihilation but since I had nothing left and he had nothing left his 2 transports lived. His German2 he bought 9 transports and I countered with 9 inf and 1 tank but by then I was too late. Brittan fell with ease on German3 and things looked grim. For my opponent Operation Sea lion was a success.
Meanwhile in the Pacific Japan decided on a J2 attack and took Hawaii that turn. America built 3 air craft carriers on their turn one and turn 2 also built in the Pacific. When Great Brittan fell to the Germans I had no Choice but to send America into the Atlantic to use their military might to salvage the situation. The Germans up graded the minor industrial complex they now had in Great Brittan to a major as they were determined to hold it. This forced me to build up another turn as America to get a mixture of transports with tanks and inf. Meanwhile Pacific Brittan was reduced in points when Japan took the major islands in the Pacific and Australia suffered from convoy attacks from Japan. To make matters worse Italy attacked Brittan in Africa the same turn Germany had crossed the English channel. It was a bloody battle but Italy emerged with Egypt in it’s control as well as a cleared out Mediterranean, both of it’s National objectives had now been met.
At this point America was in bind and way behind as Germany just bought ten more inf in Britan as they were determined to hold London from the Americans. I saw an opening though because the Germans had invested so heavily to take London and now to hold it I took a risk. I did not have enough power yet to land in Italy as America as I was now off the coast of Africa at Gibraltar. Norway was not where I wanted to land because Russia had taken it from Germany as on turn 4 they went to war. My goal was to get a factory up and running in Europe and Crush Germany at it’s capital as they had spent so many points on sea lion and so little on defense. I decided to turn the World against me when I activated Spain and attacked it as a landing point. On the downside I gave my opponent many IPCs and free inf throughout the world by turning true neutrals hostile to the allies. But the advantage it provided was great. I now had a launching pad in Europe and was able to build a minor industrial complex there next turn, finally American transports were able to shuck American reinforcements to Spain each turn. The Russians had been building inf and art mix since turn one and moving a huge stack together. At this point they fell forward towards Germany as they had been under no pressure from Japan or Germany. I reinforced the stack on the way to Berlin with tanks and plane buys from behind.
Back in the Pacific Japan tried hard to mess with America. They took Alaska and finally moved there whole navy off the coast of San Francisco costing me a 12 point convoy disruption each turn which did hurt. This point drain did not last long as America began gaining expensive point provinces in Europe. They flew about 12 planes to Alaska to try and pressure the west coast but I started spending part of my points each turn as American building inf and a couple of tanks to defend my coasts and Japan had no counter. They had slowed America a bit but at the cost of not putting any pressure on Russia and they had still not finished off Australia and Pacific Brittan which now had a stack of 25 inf.
Meanwhile the Russians reached Berlin and as the Americans were attacking and eating points off of Germany in French provinces. It was a crazy battle as he still did have about 50 inf in Berlin but the Russians attacked with 32 inf, 16 art, 5 tanks, and 1 of each plane. This time I rolled pretty well and Berlin fell to the Russians while America was closing in on Rome. At this point my opponent conceded and was baffled that he could still not pull off the axis victory even though London had been in German control since turn 3 and that Italy had accomplished both its national objectives.
Two lessons I learned this game,
1- A successful Axis Sea lion is by no means the end of the game for the allies.
2-Never underestimate the power America can bring to the table. Some might Argue Japan can eventually bring as much but they have a hard time getting the strategic positions and factories that America can build in Europe.
All and all it was a fun game but my friend and I are starting to wonder why we have played 8 games and not seen an axis win. It does not matter who plays what county because he has beaten me when I played the axis. Is this game truly balanced.
Thanks for any Replies
Take care.
