Hi do you guys no where online I can buy more red chips.  I have 3 copies of 1942 and I have Global but in 20 plus hour games we still run out of chips.  I would like to buy about 100 red chips I don’t have to worry about it anymore.  Thanks in advance.

    • RE: Getting attacked inside the Denmark Straight from Norway

A Carrier and 2 Transports is good enough. After G1, all builds can be land/air builds

I don’t see how that fleet can survive a build of American Bombers.  America still starts with some bombers to begin with in Alpha set up.  So US does not have to spend that many points to destroy that kind of fleet.  After that my German fleet will die and I can never retake Norway.

      @MarkVIIIMarc:

In France sometimes I build my large force in France and just kick the Brits and Americans off the beaches repeatedly.  In Norway I guess you could push a half dozen infantry up to Finland through Lenningrad each round then retake Norway with them fellas and air units.

Seems risky though.  Once America can land ten units in Norway its costly to retake.

Then again, at least if America’s transports are landing in Norway they are not landing in Italy.

If I build my forces in France than I can not protect West Germany and Denmark.  Yes you can retake West Germany but my understanding is that when the allies take West Germany it turns the major industrial complex there to a minor.  So now when you retake it next turn you just had your major industrial complex turned into a minor.

Also the consequences of not holding Denmark is huge.  If I am in France and the allies land in West Germany and in Denmark I can not retake Denmark for Germany unless I do it on transports.  That would then mean the Denmark Straight is now open and the US can use everything to hit Berlin the next turn.

How do you guys battle against this and still beat down Russia.  Don’t get me wrong I love Global and I am thankful to Larry Harris for creating it.  I am just having some trouble as the Axis.  I know with more practice I can get better.

      @calvinhobbesliker:

Germany must therefore not let Norway be captured. it does this with a strong Baltic Fleet that can reinforce or recapture Norway

I don’t see how Germany has the points to build one.  It has to fight Russia and that takes a lot.  If I don’t sea lion then I have to try to stop the Brits from making landing with my air force.  Also America with it’s points could build bombers to waste my fleet in the Baltic then proceed through with their fleet.  I can never really get my Germany much above 50 points for very long before I get hit somewhere.

How much fleet do you normally build? I guess it might force the Russians to be the ones to take Norway and then at least America won’t have a major there.

If America takes Norway and builds a major there they can build fleet and transports inside the straight can’t they?  As a German player that has lost Norway to America how would you counter this because when America does this Germany has to pull a lot of forces back to it’s capital.  It looks like a game over move to me but maybe I am wrong. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    • RE: How should Japan try to save Europe?

I just played a 20+ hour game to a draw although I might of lost if it was played to conclusion. I sent the Japan Navy to Africa and protected Italy.  Italy then was spending close to the points of Germany.  The USA fleet battled the Japan fleet in the Med Sea and the Japan fleet destroyed it along with 17 US transports.  At this point Europe was Fortress that the US could never crack because I built mostly inf and art with Italy and Germany all game.  The problem is I was only able to destroy India and the Russian Inf.  China and Australia got out of hand because I did not kill them.  The Australians boarded transports and took some islands and china had a stack of like 40 inf.  We were at a point of after 20+ of play that I was not in position to get 14 victory cities but that I had about 200 inf art in Europe and America had to start a new fleet to come over to attack.  It was called a draw.

    • RE: Passive Germany?

I am finding that building lots of inf and art helps the axis since they don’t have as many IPCs to spend as the allies.  The allies at least have to buy some fleet first before they start attacking Germany and Italy.  That being said I have a much harder time winning with the axis than I do with the allies so far.

    • RE: How to slow Japan enough in KGF?

After Global came out I have not played a game of 1942 since so it is hard to remember.  The last game of 1942 I played I did go into the Pacific as America and I actually took Japan.  I sent out empty air craft carriers to have a larger force and then in later turns flew the fighters to catch up with them.  My opponent thought Japan was safe and just made an error in thinking I would not attack his fleet protecting the home island.  His math was off and I won the battle handily.  So US grabbed Japan and all the islands and major points around it.

The problem was Russia fell to Germany and then England was about to fall as well.  So it was an 80 some point Germany vs an 80 some point US.  Rather than play it out we decided on a draw.

Okay then I was just confused.  I know back when they were talking about balancing Pacific I saw somewhere to get Japan to not do a J1 they were offered a 10pt a turn National Objective.  Maybe it was just someones suggestion I saw and not offical set up by Larry Harris.  My friend mentioned it to me last night and I told him I was not sure.

In Alpha set up for Global does Japan gain +10 IPCS a turn for not being at war with US, England, Anzac, or does that only apply to Pacific.  I am confused on this.  Was this gotten rid of all together.

      Thanks in Advance.

    • RE: KJF KGF and KIF?

I am having a good game against the allies as they have been splitting their points in the Alantic and Pacific.  That being said I don’t know how I could have stopped them had the gone all in the Alantic.  I seems to me Germany and Italy need time to prepare for that sort of thing.

    • RE: Japan's Airforce???

We are about 10 hours into the game and I am the closest I have ever been to a win as the axis.  Japan has busted through India and destroyed a large US Navy that was sent into the Pacific to stop them.  I also currently hold Honolulu.

I did a sealion turn G4 even though my plan was to attack Russia because my opponent spent to many early Brittish points in Africa and I decided I needed to keep him honest.  America reclaimed Britain but I was able to have a 93 point German turn of spending and even now the British have not recovered in Africa.  The German airforce has been blowing up the Royal Navy as it appears along with my U boats.  I am not very deep into Russia but I have a stack of about 75 Inf and art faced off against a similiar Russian Stack.  Italy is also growing a large stack as well.  Japan is now very close to be able to offer Assistance to Germany and Italy in Europe.  THe axis big three is closing the gap in IPC spending against the allies big three.

We are going to continue the game later this week and it could still go either way.  I have made a lot of mistakes as the Axis as I normally play allies but I think the axis are more fun to play.  But I have to say I like the Alpha set up much better.

    • RE: Recipe for a G4 conquest of Moscow

I don’t think I would do well as the axis if the battleships both lived.  Brittan would not even have to buy inf the first two turns as they could focus on Africa and landing in Europe from the word go.

You may be right about going in G2.  This is a massive game so it takes me some practice to figure these things out.  I have just found that going in with mechs and tanks has not worked for me so I wanted to try inf and art.

    • RE: Japanes Pacific conquest - preliminary thoughts.

I am planning on attacking J3 and at that point taking all Pacific Britans points aside from the captial.  I plan on putting an industrial complex in Malaya maybe J4.  From there hopefully I can split my points between sending men to Africa and pressuring China and India.  I may be able to get India with my Air Force and the Malaya Industrial complex but I am not sure on what time table.

I plan to build a major Industrial complex upgrade in germany G1.  On G2 I will buy 10 art and 10 inf and start sending them forward towards Russia to pressure them.  I will have to use my judgement on how much to reinforce it by what Britan and US are doing and how much I will have to spend on defense.  I probably won’t set foot into Russia with Germany until G5.  I will try to reinforce and get my troops into postion before them.  I will peel as many points off Russia with Japan as possible.  I know I may not have enough Japan IPCs to do everything I need to do.

All of these plans will have to be thrown out the window if US comes into the Pacific with major spending.  Yet if they do that then it does buy Europe more time for Italy to grow and Germany to spend more points on operation Barbarossa.

I used to think J1 was the way to go but have since revised my thinking to J3.  Giving US the points early is too much for Italy and Germany to handle in Europe imho.

There will be problems with Pacific Brittan and China but that is something that I will just have to try out and see if Japan can handle both.  The element of surprise would help a lot but my main gaming partner is on these forums :(

    • RE: Japan's Airforce???

I printed up the Alpha set up today.  After looking at I am thinking it is much better.  This will prevent England from flying all the Pacific planes they start with in normal set up to Africa and pushing back Italy.  It should also force the US to spend some more points on Navy and Airforce.  The Austrialian fighters also can hurt the axis a lot so as Japan I will be glad to see them go.  Finally the extra inf in Manchuria should help peel some points off Russia.

I should be trying the set up today against the least experienced gamer in our group.  He will be the allies.  Later in the week I may play the best player in our group but I will have to convince him about the set up.  He thinks Japan will be hurt too much by losing seven planes.

I really want to spend points to boast the Luftwaffe as well as add subs.  I am just afraid if I do that I will be lacking boots on the ground.  Maybe I need to revisit my math on this.

    • RE: Japanes Pacific conquest - preliminary thoughts.

In my gaming group Japan has been winning in the Pacific but America, Brittan, and Russia have been crushing Germany and Italy in Europe thus resulting in a large proportion of wins for the allies.

I think Utilizing Japan to take pressure off Europe by forcing America to spend in Pacific or get troops to Europe to help in the fight might be the answer.  In the games we have played the American player when pressured by Japan has built stacks of Inf and tanks on the mainland to prevent any Japan attack force from going anywhere.  At that point Japan can only convoy raid WUS for 12 points.  Even with that and forcing US to spend on defense the US still has been able to run to the Atlantic and cap the axis in Europe with the aid of Russia and Brittan.  Normally the Russian player builds all inf and art from turn one and creates a mega stack that can defend the capital. If Japan does not arrive in Russia with pressure when Brittan and US are hitting Germany then the stack is free to run towards Berlin if Germany has to fall back to defend.

I am planning on creating a route with sea bases to get to Africa next game in a timely manner with Japan.  Then I hope to grab at least Persia and Iraq for Japan and build minor industrial complexes.  With those bases I hope to create a launching pad for Japan to spend IPCS in Europe and help the Axis.  One question is how will my Japan do in the Pacific.  If America spends heavy in the Pacific then I may have to call this strategy off but then again if America is spending in the Pacific then that will take pressure off Europe.

Final thoughts:  Sea Lion only seems worth it to me if it can be done on the cheap because the British player did not spend on defense early.  Even then I would not try and spend points to hold it from US unless I found a better way for Japan to pressure US.  The games in which sea lion was done in our group with Germany investing heavy resources resulted in Germany getting maimed by Russia.
