    • RE: Balanced???

The game is probably balanced but I think it is harder to play the axis.  They need to balance defense and offense when the go into Russia with Germany, Japan needs to be careful if it does not hold Hawaii because then its captial could become in danger if its initial starting air force and navy is off conquering the world.  Also Gilbartar can cause all sorts of problems for the axis if they are not careful, the allies can hit a lot from there.  Italy can get jacked up by Britan if Germany does not at least threaten Sea lion and the Brits fly 4 planes to Africa from Pacific.

It is too early to know for sure if such a huge game is balanced but I still think it is at least close.  Those are just the observations I have made about the Axis being harder to play.

    • Playing my 8th game tonight, preparing for sealion, alaska attack combo.

I will be playing the allies tonight against my friend who keeps on insisting that he be the axis.  He has tried to crack Russia the past couple of games.  Tonight I am pretty sure he is going to sea lion so I will have to prepare for that.  I am also pretty sure he is going to try and pressure US with Japans starting Navy and Air Force.

It should be an interesting game.  I am not 100% sure how to respond to an immediate attack on America on the west coast.  Also I understand that if the dice go bad I may lose the UK to the Germans and it could be hard to liberate them with Japan pressuring US.

We might see an axis win tonight if I can’t repell Japan and liberate Britan in time.  Then again I may be wrong and he may go into Russia again but I highly doubt it.

      I will post results later.

    • RE: 7 games played so far and no axis wins yet, I played axis twice.

So far I have not really been able to get Germany very close to Moscow.  The Russians keep buying inexpensive units such as inf and art.  They then fall back with huge stacks and don’t lose too many points, then at the right moment they can move forward again when the USA is landing in Rome or Norway as Germany needs to focus on defense.

Thanks for the input.  I think I can see what you are saying.  I have tried a J3 attack and a J1 attack.  I also watched my friend pull off a J1 attack on me where he secured Hawaii as well as other objectives.  He destroyed my American Units in Phillipines and Hawaii before I could move, and he also made Hawaii secure so I could not take it back US1 and J2 he flew his planes in.  What he was able to accomplish in destroying units and dictating to America where it could go seemed to more than make up for the points it allowed to have by entering the war early.

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

I had a question about the French IPC’s.  My understanding is that if an axis player captured them after the fall of Paris then an allied player could capture them back and would hold them until the liberation of Paris at which point France would take them back.  My understanding was that allies could not capture French IPC’s that had not yet been taken by an axis player.  So the points in Africa would not be in play for the allies unless say Italy took them first.

Could someone please explain to me if this is the correct reading of the rules.

      Thanks

    • RE: Moscow Stack, a comon russian strategy?

I have played 7 games so far (2 as axis and 5 as allies).  Russia has not been cracked yet once by an axis opponent.  In the second game we played Russia kept falling back against a combined German and Japan assault and ended with a stack of 80 plus inf and then about a mixture of 20 other units.  By that time The US had built two major factories in Europe and was building 20 units a turn there while Britan landed in Europe at will.

I have gotten Germany into Lenningrad and believe I have enough experience as Germany to be able to hold it now but I have a plan for the Germans to get Moscow.  The other games I have played Russia started buying about half art and half inf.  It makes there stack slightly smaller but they can move forward and kill any stack that does not keep pace by adding numbers to it.

Maybe I am just not skilled enough yet or not patient enough but it seems real hard to take Moscow as Germany.  We have tried a Germany factory in Romania, transports off the coast of Lennigrad, Mechs and Tanks, and none of it has been able to defeat the Russian stacks.  Japan made a path to Moscow one game and kept their initial airforce in tack but they could only reinforce their attack from India and by that time America was knocking on Berlins door.

    • 7 games played so far and no axis wins yet, I played axis twice.

So far in the 7 games of global I have played the allies have won five and there were two draws that would have been allied wins if played to conclusion.

Not sure why my friend and I are getting different results than most people on here.  We play with the standard setup as we don’t wont to power down the axis any more since they have yet to win.

-There has been one attempted sea lion in our games but it failed due to bad dice luck.

-There have been six german invasions into Russia that have made it as far as one Russian city but were then repelled.

-Italy has been beaten by Britan in 6 of the seven games in Africa.  The only time Italy won was when my friend did not fly over all the planes from the pacific.  In the last game we played my roomate used Italy as a can opener for germany in russia.  I built a minor industrial complex in Egypt and an airbase in Malta.  I then flew my planes from London in to join the Pacific planes.  I had America capture Silicy so that my fighters and tactical bombers from Britan  in Malta with the air base could attack Rome and rebase.  I built two transports in a regular Bomber as my last purchase with Britan before the conquered Rome the next turn from Egypt who was not ready for it as they had invested heavy in Russia.

To those who are scoring Axis victories besides sea lion how did you get into position to force a concession or capture enough cities.

    • RE: Death of the KJF?

I think if US does not get hit with Pearl Harbor than it can be a good idea to build up at Hawaii.  It forces Japan to leave a major part of its navy behind because with the navy base in Hawaii they can hit sea zone six in one turn.  Also if Japan is not careful with a large defense force they could lose Tokyo.  The US can buy 7 bombers on the last turn before an attack and as long as they still hold a coastal Russian terriority they can hit sea zone six to help destroy a defense navy with the air base in San Fran.

    • RE: How long do your global games typically last?

I have played 5 games so far.  Two games had  axis concessions within in 8 hours.  Two games were called a draw after 15 hours and the other game was somewhere in between.

    • RE: New Global Strategies

It would be very hard for Japan to actually take any of The US’s Big Three.  If it wanted to US could use its 3 major factories to build 25 inf in just one turn of building.  Japan would have to build ships and put men on them or build many planes to even match one turn of that building.  And to convey raid the US for that amount they would have to not defend their coast at all.

    • RE: Japan strategy

It would be very hard to take Hawaii back as US if Japan wanted to hold.  It is only 3 sea zones from Japan sea zone 6 (Japan also has a navel base so it is one turn of movement) and Japan could fly 300 points of planes in there to defend it along with its huge navy.  Also defender of the base has the advantage because Japan could scramble all those fighters that would defend on a 4 while the figthers US brings to the attack would hit at a 3 plus the Japan Air Craft Carriers would defend on a 2 while the US air craft carriers would have no attack value.  It would be part of a J1 attack so Pacific Britian would be reduced to very little points.  It would expand Japan more slowly but India would still fall to a major industrial complex on the mainland.

US would have to spend all its points for many turns to and it would have to build carriers for all its fighters to invade.  Japan could fly in fighters each turn to fortify it and it would cost them less than the points america would have to spend.  So the downside is Japan expands more slowly but ties america down and does not allow them to send almost anything to Europe or they give up Hawaii to Japan.  Plus is the US player did not try to take back Hawaii it could be a launching pad to San Fran at some point in the game. I think it is easier to hold Hawaii than take over Moscow.

    • RE: Japan strategy

I want to try doing Pearl Harbor and forcing the Amercians to Spend money in the Pacifc.  It will slow Japan down but will also decrease the force in which American can show up in Europe.  It would be hard for America to retake the island if Japan reinforced it with Fighters that could be scrambled.

    • RE: Axis or Allies Wins in Those Who Have Played Global…List them here.

I have played 5 games so far.  In 3 games the allies were the clear winners.  The other two games were called draws after about 15 hours of play each but probably would have been allied wins also if played to conclusion.

I think the game is balanced but that the axis take a little more skill to use initially.  It is taking our group a little bit of practice as the axis to prepare for the huge force Amercian can send in any direction.  I think Japan might be the hardest yet most fun country to play especially if the US is investing in the Pacific.

We having been falling into the trap of having each other go at Germany and Russia’s Capitals but are starting to pay more attention to victory cities.  It is very hard for Berlin or Moscow to fall in this game if each one turtles.  It is has been a lot of fun so far but I might switch to playing a different version of axis and allies due to the fact that our games just seem to last too long and I really should focus on other things in life :)

    • Battle Report

I played my fith game of global today, I controlled the axis.  It took about 15 hours and we decided on a draw.  Amercia invested heavily in the Pacific this time and did a major arms build at honolulu.  I was caught off guard by this because in the other games we played America went for either Norway or Italy.  I ended up calling my navy and air force back to sea zone 6 to defend Japan.  I was still able to build a factory and capture India but Australia and China became huge thorns.  Since America kept adding about 60 points to there base in Honolulu each turn I was pinned and could not capture Sydney.  So Australia started building subs each turn and before long they were convoy attacking me for 18 points a turn.  China ran away and consolidated in point in China where they met up with a Russian AA gun. At that point 20 China men would march forward each turn and recapture land.

Italy defeated Britan in Egypt this time but I could not hold it after the american points spent in the alantic theather showed up.  Germany captured Leningrad but could not really get any further than that.

Finally around turn ten the I attacked the Americans in the Pacfic with my Japan force but the result was mutal destruction for both fleets.  By this point Russia had a huge defenseive force and so did germany.  We were too tired to keep going then and called it a draw.  Any feeback or thoughts would be appreciated.  It was all and all a fun game.

    • Finding a Game board

I really want to play this edition but it just cost too much on ebay.  I read that it is possible to print out a map to use as the game board and then use the pieces from 1942 and 1940 Europe and 1940 Pacific to play.  Does anyone know where I can a map file?

      Thanks in advance,

    • Is Revised better than 1942

I would really like to get anniversary edition but can not afford to spend the money they are charging on ebay for it.  I am playing global but want another version to play besides it.  Is revised considered a better game than 1942?  Also how does it compare to Anniversary edition?

      Thanks in advance,

    • RE: Italy a bad design

I played a lot of 1942 and that was mostly kill germany first vs kill russia first and then someone conceded with a few exceptions.  That is how I have tried to play my first game as the axis but I am starting to think that it is better to not even try to take Moscow.  The victory conditions for the axis is getting cities and it might be better to use Japan to conquer every city on the pacific side if america goes kill germany/italy first.  Then have Japan take all of Africa and send Germany to take lenigrad and stalingrad.  If Russia bought too much inf they will not be able to counter attack.  I have not added the cities up but at that point the axis would at least be pretty close.

So maybe that is something that I am missing.

Also not to confuse anyone I am Chompers#2, my old roomate who I have played 4 times is Chompers, who has made most of the post on here so far.
