Well, making the India IC a minor, makes it even more trivial for Japan to take.
No allied units in Russia going to make it very difficult to hold Moscow. Can Russian units enter allied territory? With no retreat from Moscow option, I can definitely see it being more difficult for the allies to win.

    • RE: Hall of Shame - tales of the worst dice ever

I had one a couple weeks ago. Playing Germany, I attacked 2 UK destroyers and 1 cruiser with 4 fighters and 2 strategic bombers.
I won that fight with 1 bomber left. Took me 3 rounds to get the 3 hits I needed.

Also had an amusing incident when playing a game of classic A&A, where transports are not defenseless. USA attacked 1 German transport with 1 fighter. Transport won. Then UK attacked the transport with a bomber. Transport won.
Then the German player used that transport to take over Brazil. It was highly embarrassing.

      @Uncrustable:

Yes on the surface atleast it would seem to benefit the allies the most.
Maybe make a rule, No allied units may enter any original soviet territory.
This would tone down the advantage.

But right now (OOB) the axis are favorites, so it may not unbalance as much as one might think.

On the other hand, it removes the possibility for USA to open sea lanes for ANZAC forces to take islands, which helps out Japan a lot. And removes the possibility of USA grabbing Denmark and then UK hitting Germany right after it, which helps Germany defend western Europe more easily. I think overall it greatly strengthens the allies on land, but makes them a bit weaker on the ocean. Would be really interesting to see how these changes play out.

My only concern would be the possible changes in game balance. I don’t think there’s any real good way to know how it would change without some play testing. With significantly reduced opportunities for can openers, and allowing the allies to attack together, especially in places like China, this would be very interesting to test out.

    • RE: Global 1940 is the best Axis & Allies game

One of my favorite things about Global 1940 is the larger amounts of money involved overall. More units getting purchased = more fun.
Also, in older version, like classic, one bad roll early on could end the game. Now, there’s more chances to get better rolls later to average out bad rolls.

    • RE: Scramble Rule Clarification

The rule says it’s only for that turn, which makes it pretty clear. If another nation were to attack, it would have to be on another turn. For example, if USA attacks on their turn, and then UK attacks on their turn, you could use the planes to defend against both attacks because they are on separate turns.

    • RE: Effective Japan complementary strategies

Often times the UK will build up a large presence in Persia (or elsewhere in the middle east), to prepare for the fall of Moscow or to help prevent Moscow from falling.
Sometimes some of those troops can be sent to liberate India, depending on how the war is going in Europe.

    • RE: What's the cheesiest thing about Global 1940?

For what it’s worth, the British controlled India + Anzac forces did invade and retake Burma and plenty of places in south east Asia (though I don’t think they actually entered china). And the Japanese DID make an attempt to invade India and take Calcutta. They failed miserably, but they did try.
India was a major, important player in the war against Japan.

Yes, you can fly over that straight. It is a tad confusing, but it is allowed.

    • RE: Declaration of War triggers

      Yes.
Although technically, I believe it simply allows the US to declare war on Japan at the beginning of the US turn. I don’t think they have to if for some reason they don’t want to.
Attacking the UK will automatically bring the Anzac into the war though.

    • RE: Heres a question

Yes, the US can non-com into SZ 6. The subs don’t matter at all, they can be totally ignored during non-com movement. Doesn’t matter if you bring warships or not.
It looks to me like you were correct.

    • RE: Question regarding submarines and transports in amfibious assault

That is correct. But if the subs are on defense, the attacker always has the option to retreat before all his transports die.

    • RE: Question regarding submarines and transports in amfibious assault

Since Germany didn’t bring a destroyer in, the submarine gets a sneak attack every round (even on defense they get a sneak attack at 1). Since all Germany brought are transports and planes, if the submarine hits, Germany has to take the casualty on a transport.
The submarine will keep firing every round of combat until Germany decides to retreat.

    • RE: Crush Germany first strategy

I have seen this tried a couple of times against me, and every time it has lead to a quick and easy Japanese victory.
Basically, if Japan commits to it, especially without any USA or USSR help, they should be able to take India practically every time around rounds 4-6.
After that, if USA hasn’t supplemented its pacific fleet significantly, it becomes very difficult to stop Japan from taking Hawaii, as their starting fleet is no match for the entire starting Japanese fleet, generally leading to a Japanese victory by round 9 at the latest.

Anyway, that’s just what has happened in my face to face games I’ve played where this strategy has been tried.

It’s already worth 12 ipcs, and it’s pretty easy to take. I think it’s plenty valuable.

Why are you counting AA guns in your unit totals? They can’t help you attack Moscow.

    • RE: How do you keep Italy strong?

To respond to #2, it can be hard to do all 4, but it is possible to take all 4 with good odds, you just have to accept the possible loss of more aircraft. Sending two subs at 91 and two at Canada gives you very good odds of winning both of those fights. Split the remaining sub and the battleship between the two other fights. If UK doesn’t scramble, you usually only lose 1 plane in the fight where you sent the sub. If they do scramble, you lose more planes, but I’ve found that killing off the UK air force has other long term benefits.
If you don’t like to lose your airplanes, I always recommend to at least take out the channel fleet with overwhelming force.

Your other points are absolutely correct. I would be very curious to hear strategies against the stacking of 92 (and also what you consider to be stacking it properly).

I would also like to hear other strategies for what to do with Italy and Germany with the long term goal of making Italy stronger, based upon various scenarios of what the UK does.

    • RE: How do you keep Italy strong?

What I’ve found that helps is:
      1. At least threaten a Sea Lion attack with Germany. Force GB to build units in England turn 1.
      2. Take out the cruiser in 91 on round 1 with Germany, along with wiping out at the fleets in 110 and 111 and the fleet off of Canada
      3. If Great Britain leaves a fleet in the Med, destroy it turn 2 with Germany’s air force.
      4. With Italy, try to take Greece turn 1 along with destroying the French fleet.
      5. Turn 2, take Gibraltar with either Germany or Italy.
You probably won’t hold Gibraltar long term, but that combined with Southern France and Greece gives you a bonus, and using the German air force to clear the Med gives you a second.
After securing Gibraltar, Southern France and Greece, I see if I can take Egypt. If I can, I go for it. If not, I like to send everything I can at Syria and try to take Iraq and the rest of the middle east.
For buys with Italy, I typically like to get a fighter turn 1 and, if I can protect it, a transport turn 2, but after turn 1 it really depends on what GB and USA are doing.
The drawback to this plan is that it obviously can cause plenty of losses to the German air force and slow down the attack on the USSR.

    • RE: Strict Nuetrals

That’s true. It’s also odd that they only said it turns pro-Axis if Russia attacks it. Would seem to imply that if, say UK or USA attacked it, that it wouldn’t turn pro-Axis, which is sort of ridiculous.
