    • RE: Destroyer ignoring subs??

      @barney:

even unescorted transport? I know they can’t amphib attack but they can move through?

I’ve never understood this rule logically speaking. :? :? :?

I am unsure of where in the rule book it is stated but I also know it has been mentioned on message board topics before.

How does it make logical sense that a transport may pass through a seazone by itself unharmed with an enemy sub in that seazone, but that transport cannot ignore a sub when attempting to do an amphib assault by itself?? to me it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense and i’ve thought about making it a house rule to disregard that rule because i feel that in can slow down the time to do an amphib assault.

    • Destroyer ignoring subs??

Surprised it took me this long to ask this but I know that a sub cannot ignore a destroyer in a seazone when it passes through it, but can a destroyer choose to ignore the subs if it passes through?

I know that the abilities of a Destroyer cancels out that of a sub but say I am moving a single destroyer through a seazone with 3 subs, can i ignore them at my choosing?  That is not a battle i’d really want to partake in.

    • RE: Adjusting IPC income on 1941 map

      One more thing:

Aircraft carriers should not cost 12.  They are essentially worthless without a fighter or two so to make a them worth while you would need to spend a minimum of 22 IPC. way too much.

I’d bump it down to 9.

    • RE: Adjusting IPC income on 1941 map

Yeah agreed on the territory splitting. You really cannot draw directly on the board.  I meant that if they were to ever release a 1941 version 2.0 or something like that, here are the changes that i’d like to see:

      (1942 aspects)
      Inclusion of artillery
Inclusion of cruiser ships and the ability for offshore bombardment but i have a slightly different rule for that (whole other topic of discussion)
More LZs and SZs (not too many more, the ones i mentioned in the previous post and maybe just an addtional seazone for Iwo Jima or Okinawa

      Other:
      More overall IPCs income
National advantages-http://www.harrisgamedesign.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1840            This could certianly make things a little more interesting…

This would be my desired version of Axis and Allies. :-D

    • RE: Adjusting IPC income on 1941 map

I agree to a point.  More IPCs are easier on non-experienced players but it will also greatly increase the playing time for the game (which 1941 tries to stray away from so that it is not as complex as 1942).

I would enjoy a hybird of both games to kind of get a middle of the road complexity between the two.

But I digress. My changing of the IPCs would go as follows:

Soviet Union: 10-11 Would love to see the Urals split into two LZs worth 1 each
Germany:16 Would love to see North Africa split up as well
Britian: 16  For sure adding 1 each India and Austrailia
      Japan: 13
      USA: 19

I’ve thought that the overall IPCs need to be increased but since i usually play with newbies, this change would be one more thing for them to learn…

    • Island capturing rule

Got a quick question about island capturing before i play a game this weekend:
:?  In regards to the island unit rule discussed on page 9 of rule book,  i would not be able to perform an amphibious assault on Okinawa or Iwo Jima in SZ45 as long as there are Japanese units on the island of Japan??

The way I interrperupted the rule is that all land masses in a seazone are apart of the same island Landzone. The board just broke them up for the aesthetics of the map

    • RE: Turn 1 Allied Strategy

ColonelPotter makes a solid point in regards to controling the Japanese economy.  Japan must expand their empire to gain more credits or die.  This can be achived by them by island hoping in the pacific and taking UK and USA credits.  I’ve played as Japan once and after my crushing defeat in the sea zone around India, i did not have the naval strength to repel the American and UK advance.  Japan was surrounded by their navies and i was pretty much done for….

    • RE: Good round one move for the Americans?

you are correct sir.  If the British can manage to take North Africa it would serve as a better station for the American planes since they both could attack southern and Western europe if need be.

    • RE: Good round one move for the Americans?

I feel like the combined efforts of the Britsh/American air strikes would force the Germans to reinforce Western Europe, taking some of the pressure off the Russians.  I feel like this would necessary for at least a longer Russian survival…

    • Good round one move for the Americans?

So i had an idea for the first round move for the American army and i wanted to hear what people thought:
In round one, move the fighter and bomber over to the british controlled Gibraltar (this plan is scraped if the Germans take Gibraltar over by transporting troops from southern Europe there…). From there, on turn two the fighter and bomber could easily attack Western Europe along with a coordinated Fighter+bomber attacks from united Kingdom that would soften up Western Europe so that an invasion force could land there.

I am sure that i am not the only one that thought of this but let me know your thoughts on this opening round strategy :?

    • RE: Russian Port of choice?

Hold up. i do see that ships cannot enter SZ18 through the Turkish straights. and i did see that there was that message topic in which someone placed a Russian aircraft carrier with two fighters on it. (not a terrible idea if you can afford it) so that answers SZ18 questions.

Does that mean that SZ 4 and 5 are free range for the russians??

    • Russian Port of choice?

Ok i know that this has been discussed before but i am a bit confused on the topic. So if Russia buys a ship, i know that you are supposed to put in the ‘adjacent seazone’ but where is that at? Can i choose from SZ 18 (the black sea) or do i get to choose between SZ 4 or 5?

Or can i choose from all three? cause that would be nice too :-D

    • Surprise strike VS Surprise strike

Sorry folks but i am still a bit confused about the sub surprise strike.  So i get that lets say its a sub vs an aircraft carrier, sub chooses a surprise strike, hits aircraft carrier, aircraft carrier sinks and does not get a defensive roll per the rules of the surprise strike.

But if a sub attacks another sub it sounds like both are able to declare surprise strike. but wouldn’t this just nullify the surprise strike and the subs would just have basic normal combat?

    • Placement of purchased ships

so just played for the first time last week and this occurred:

I was Japan and my island was surrounded by three enemy navel ships.  Now, my only factory that i had was the one on the island of Japan. what would happen if i wanted to purchase a naval ship of my own since it must be placed in the surrounding ocean zone?  Would i be able to do this and then combat would automatically commence when the opponent’s turn was up or would i not be able to purchase the ship at all until the enemy ships were cleared out?

This can obiviously happen to other world power and not just Japan….
