But Japan’s overpowered already. Are there any Allied bonuses that can be used along with this?

Something is definitely wrong there. Either we played the rule wrong or maybe I’m getting confused, and it was ANZAC. But I think the Allies were still building in Egypt after Sydney fell, so I guess we goofed. I’ll ask my teammate next time I see him.

RE: Statistics of 100 Games of G40.2 OOBposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I don’t have detailed information on all of the games, but here is an interesting one I personally played that was declared a draw:
Germany want all out for SeaLion from the start and took London.
After a Japanese attack, Russia decided to make a considerable effort in China, while also seizing the Middle East and eventually the Balkans.
Japan did not do well on the mainland but kept the important islands and places like Hong Kong.
The U.S. focused on liberating London.
ANZAC was yelling at the Allies’ faces because the Aussies were cornered the whole game.
China was doing quite well and marched all the way to Shanghai at one point.
Italy took Egypt but met lucky resistance from Indian, Russian, and French reinforcements. Most of the game weas spent ruthlessly rolling dice at one another in battles that mostly had strange luck. By the end of the day, the situation was too lopsided in different fronts to call.
Germany held London, Paris, Berlin and Warsaw. It had a fleet and was fighting Allies in the Balkans mostly.
Russia successfully helped China eliminate Japanese troops on the mainland and worked with the U.S. to get Egypt back. There was a standstill in the Eastern Front, mostly because a ton of German transports kept attacking the north.
Japan lost the mainland but kept the high seas with virtually no Americans involved. Eventually Japan took Sydney and New Zealand and even landed in Alaska.
The United States was all over the Mediterranean and Canada trying to strecth the Germans too far. A small force was preparing the pass through the Panama Canal to force Japan to consolidate.
China had everything it could wish for. Literally. The Allies began calling me useless.
The UK did not have London, but India claimed many territories and eventually was cleverly given Egypt by an American attack that retreated to allow for the weaker British to claim their fallen brothers’ land and build a factory. All of Africa was retaken.
Italy was just about dead with an enormous American force in Northern Italy ready to wipe Italy out whenever it wanted to.
ANZAC had zero units on the board. This tempted him to flip the board.
France was not liberated except for some smal back and forth battles in Southern France. We felt that we could not call this one mostly because the Allies could easily win with an organized push anywhere, but also because Japan could quite easily take Honolulu, Hong Kong, and Shanghai for the win. We would have needed at least five more turns to get a definite surrender.

Statistics of 100 Games of G40.2 OOBposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Congratulations to my A&A fan club! Recently, they (I was not there for the last game…grumble grumble) finished playing their ONE HUNDREDTH game of 1940 2nd Edition with no house rules. These games were played mostly by 4-5 players of excellent to amateur skill. The estimated (highly estimated, as this was not documented) play time was 7 hrs. Shortest recorded game was 3 hrs. while the longest was several days’ worth. Here’s the fruit:
Out of 100 games
The Allies won 38 times
The Axis won 46 times
A draw was declared 13 times
And 3 games were disputed (some of the draws were disputed, but usually veteran players on both sides deemed them too close to call)Most games were won not by victory cities but by unanimous surrender.
As a bonus statistic, I personally played 29 of these games, but I won’t tell you that I only won 13 of them and never managed to liberate Paris.

RE: Should we make better rules for invadable neutrals? (1940)posted in House Rules
I’m happy to hear that you enjoy the 1939, which my group spent so much time on yet likes to ignore every time I bring it up lately. All these new neutral rules have really helped to alleviate the problems of OOB neutral mayhem. Aside from alternate setups, modified neutrals is the only house rule my group consistently uses for just about every game.
I remember once we were playing with modified neutrals and three new players. While one of the amateurs was messing around with Japan, his opponent was conquering South America as ANZAC. Needless to say, these new players thoroughly enjoyed themselves and continue to promote modified neutrals for our gaming sessions.
We have a system here in which at the start of most games each person is allowed to pick two house rules he or she wants to play with. After everyone has made choices, we all vote on the selected house rules. Any house rules receiving votes more than half the number of players will be used in that session. Neutral changes almost always get implemented democratically.

RE: [Global 1940] The Free French/Vichy Frenchposted in House Rules
Great information. I must admit that I have used the WW1 and WW2 sets interchangeably for France, Free French, and Vichy. I also have some really light blue infantry units from another game (Risk: Battlefield Rogue; it was a very poorly-made game, but there was a time when people bought it just for its sculpts) that I sometimes use.
I will definitely take a look at the movie you referred to Marc. Golden Age of Cinema + WW2 + France = popcorn.
You guys are aware that Charles de Gaulle is a facade that I only use here and when I’m literally playing as France, right? I’m an American through and through. :-D

I would rather discuss the other issues elsewhere, but we find Tanks at 5 IPCs to be too overpowered and the neutral indestructible AA guns to be too “gamey.”

RE: G40- Alternate China Rulesposted in House Rules
Maybe you should boost the Communists and perhaps the Nationalists too with some more infantry or, even more fun, artillery? China is weak already. A tweaked setup could easily make this fun and balanced. Japan has the advantage of dividing their enemies while the Chinese have more troops.

[AA50] Easy China Tweaks for Everybodyposted in House Rules
Anniversary Edition is well-known for being slanted towards the Axis. This is partly because of China’s weakness and unnecessary special rules that just make new players confused and us veterans upset. Let’s fix China with some easy changes:
1. In both the 1941 and 1942 setups there should be 4 infantry and 1 fighter in Yunnan. This usually saves the fighter, making China fun to play, and also helps to balance the game.
2. Remember that rule in which China cannot have more than three units in one space? Scrap that. It only makes things confusing and too hard for China.
3. China is no longer limited in movement. Go ahead and attack Burma, sink a Jap (Nips, Japanese, you know what I mean stupid censor) transport off the coast with the Flying Tigers, and march into Russia. Who’s stopping you? insert Bruce Lee photo -

I’ve gotten over the shock, and now every time I see this board on the forums I get a good laugh. I honestly cannot wait until this comes out just so I can watch someone talk about it on youtube.
“If you role a one, your infantry becomes a Zombie.”
Oh, yeah. Good lols. This is going to be better than my nightmares.

RE: Not Sure How to Feelposted in Axis & Allies & Zombies
On a serious note, I would love to see a late war global game complete with German supermachines, American nukes, hoards of Commies, and crazy Japan. Make China a real fight, get the UK and ANZAC rolling across Southeast Asia and Italy, and have France be a functioning power. The counter would be rigged units for Germany and Japanese kamikazes everywhere. The counter to the counter would be nukes and sheer manpower.

RE: [Global 1940] The Free French/Vichy Frenchposted in House Rules
Using the WW1 set is very common here. I typically go with the World War II set for Vichy because Vichy tends to have more unit types. The only Free French unit I really miss is the destroyer this way.

RE: [Global 1940] The Free French/Vichy Frenchposted in House Rules
The main point in making Vichy/Free French rules should be just for fun. Making France an interesting nation to play is the point.

RE: Oztea's 1941 Global Setupposted in House Rules
Hey Oz, with Anniversary being the new rave ever since its second release, I have been forced to play it multiple times recently. Although some changes I can deal with (like the industrial complexes which are actually just fine), some things like tanks at 5 IPCs and indestructible AA guns don’t sit well with my players. Once I get our house rules for updating Anniversary to modern standards, I’ll be sure to share it. We even experimented with adding mech. and tactical bombers and, of course, France. :)
Thanks again for making the best fan-made setup on here.
