No allied transports? Looks like you are really going all out on differences.

RE: Are Mechs Too Strong?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Actually if you think about it mechanic are perfect. At fisrt glance some may say “artillery cost 4 attacks and defend 2 and have a special abillity so why don’t mechanic cost 4 attack and defend at 2 at all times?” Well obviously it is because the abillity to move 2 is better than the abillity to support other units by one pip.
So what is the problem here? Well right away we say that Germany and Japan are abusing the use of them. Well it just so happens that they as well as the UK are in a position that needs them. The only reason mechanic appear too strong is for that the Axis use a lot of them AND have an advantage in this game. Axis buying mechs is just sound strategy. The only reason we may think it is unfair is due to the balance of the game being a bit in Axis favor.P.S. I think tacs are a bit overpriced. Maybe let them glhave 4 attack at all times :-D

I agree that East Africa was really never used but make sure you make allocations for the US/UK being able to get to Egypt India and Russia from the Atlantic one space faster.

RE: Strategic Bombing on Calcuttaposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Strat bomb Calcutta = far fewer UK units to deal with. We all know the trouble with taking India is getting enough land units to compete with UK land units. Strategic bombing Calcutta turn 2 3 4and maybe more is really going to halt progress in UK buildup making it a lot easier to take. The best bombings are done early when UK P still has the money.

UkP 1 fighter purchase is great idea. Of course once Japan has Yunnan Or Shan or Burma intercepting is generally outgunning yourself. The fighter also creates a little extra counter pressure particularly if you send to your tact to Africa or Middle East. I always get an IC in Persia and try to get some land units to make up for it.

You will need a totally revised setup particularly due to IPC changes and Russia.
Being honest the map looks oddly shaped but I do think it will play well with a good setup. I am also curious how will you get this map? Print it out ? -
RE: AA 50 Game Mapposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
Hi Bjones.
Why? Well I personally think a six or more piece map is to easily damaged just from opening and closing (my 1941’s paper covering is coming of because of this). And 2 or4 piece fold wont fit in the box
How to fix it? Many ways. Obviously getting a custom map is the most expensive (but also the best for playabillity) but you can never really put away a single piece. Other options are to simply lock the boards together (YG made a youtuhe video just about this). Essentially all you need is a thin piece of hard material that wont damage the board. Shape needs to be long and have a split in between. Kind of like putting toast into a single piece toaster :-D. -
RE: First time playing Germanyposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@wittmann:
Thanks for finding time for the write up. 1940 is a game you can play 100s of times and still not master it, so don’t worry if you feel you could improve on Germany. Will just have to play again!
It does sound, however, like next time you will have to hire the room until 6am and take turns sleeping under the table.Lol are you on the level?

@ABWorsham:
The A&A.org members are a great group of WW2 passionate folks. I love the camaraderie.
I even enjoy the grammar police. :-)
lol
Actually very true. I find most A&A players to be old(ww2 passionate), cordial(comraderie), and sophisticated(grammar police; I am lol again) people. -

RE: Best things for USA to doposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
To clarify, I was discussing the merits of buying a stack of 4 bombers and sending them to the Pacific.
Sure one bomber might get some targets to snipe at - but a full round buy doesn’t add much to what you already got with the starting bomber. Anything can be effective against an opponent making serious mistakes like leaving a transport stack naked and open to attack, and in a case like that, one bomber is as effective as four.
The issue is with the mechanics of movement over the oceans. A Japanese transport at a harbor can be in range to attack a bomber while the bomber is not in range to attack the transport, despite the vast difference in base movement - an airfield for the bomber makes no difference. Land units can effectively move 5 spaces to attack when using a transport at a harbor (one load, three move, one drop). The bomber would need 8 move total to attack that transport and return to base, and of course it only gets 7 with the airport and 6 without.
It’s totally counterintuitive when you look at base move 2 for ships and base move 6 for bombers, but in practice, that transport can attack from one space further away than the bomber can.
In order for this to work you obviously cannot takeoff and land at the same territory. The Pacific allows for many landing areas so this is not necessarily a problem. Some good bomber moves in the north are to bring bombers from Hawaii to attack SZ 6 and land in Midway, and to take bombers in Midway and attack Japan and land in Amur. That extra move is what really makes the difference.

Exquisite! :-D You ought to sell some of these no joke. I am sure you can get a lot of money for them on eBay for instance.

RE: Strafingposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Any term of who’s meaning applies is right. Although you may not be able to properly communicate others of course bulge everyone choosing a different term. For example: attacking a territory withe the intent of retreating from it–some of you call it strafing(I must say that this is the most common A&A term for it)–can rightfully be called a whole arsenal of words which fit that sense. So maybe we are all better of being more specific instead of adding our own ideas in the lot. :wink: just my two cents.
P.S.
One of my opponents thought I meant to go around my enemies when I said can-opener. He was taking the idea of how a can-opener really works. Just another problem caused by our words. -
