Looking for official 1st edition setupsposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Greetings! For some time now I have been looking for the full first edition setups but to no avail. Some aspects of them interest me and I would like to tweak them. Does anybody have the old setups? If so please post the full thing right here! Thanks!

@Charles:
A few questions my fellow gamers want “proof” on.
See below:
@Charles:
Mechanized infantry and tanks cannot move into a pro-Allies and then into another territory in the noncombatant move phase, correct? Example. A mechanized infanrty in West India moves into Eastern Persia, but it may not move into Persia then, correct?
@Rules:
Friendly neutrals may not be attacked, and air units
may not fly over them. They can be moved into (but not
through) as a noncombat move by land units of a power
that is at war (see Noncombat Move, page 22). This
moves the territory out of its neutral status, however. The
first friendly power to do so places its national control
marker on the former friendly neutral territory, and its
national production level is adjusted upward by the value
of the territory. With the territorys loss of neutrality in
this way, its standing army is immediately activated.
The units placed belong to the power that now controls
the formerly neutral territory, and may be used freely
beginning on that powers next turn.@Charles:
You may not offload from a friendly transport then load onto it again that turn, correct? Example. Two British units ofload from a US transport in SZ 110 and attack Normandy. The British may not move two more units onto that same transport in the noncombatant move, correct?
@Europe:
Whenever a transport offloads, it cant move again that
turn. If a transport retreats, it cant offload that turn. A
transport cant offload in two territories during a single
turn, nor can it offload cargo onto another transport. A
transport cant load or offload while in a hostile sea zone.
Remember that hostile sea zones contain enemy units, but
that for purposes of determining the status of a sea zone,
submarines and transports are ignored.@Europe:
Transports can move to friendly coastal territories
and load or offload cargo, unless they loaded, moved,
offloaded, or were involved in combat during the Combat
Move or Conduct Combat phase.@Europe:
It can offload in only one territory, and
once it offloads, it cant move, load, or offload again that
turn.@Charles:
You may bring air units into a sea zone in anticipation of the enemy scrambling even if there are no enemy ships in that sea sone, correct? Example. The Americans bring a fleet to SZ 95 to attack Italy. There are no Italian ships there, but there are planes that can scramble from Southern Italy. The US may bring air craft into SZ 95 in case they scramble, correct?
@Europe:
Moving transports and their cargo into a sea zone from
which you plan to make an amphibious assault counts as
a combat move, even if there are no defending surface
warships there and there is no potential for air units to be
scrambled (see Scramble, page 16). This is also true of
any units that will support the assault. Further, if enemy
air units could potentially be scrambled to defend the sea
zone, additional units may be moved into the sea zone to
combat them in case they are indeed scrambled.Should satisfy them.
Perfect! Thanks a lot!

RE: Best spot for US to land?posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
There is literally no way to stop Russia from falling on T8 if you are playing low luck. In dice you can get really really lucky I guess…
Really? How much of the German economy is being spent on Russia in your games? Are you trying to put enough pressure with Britain and the US? Is Germany ignoring its other interests?
With Russia are you making sure you pull back most of your troops? Never get in a battle that has odds against you. Only defend a territory if you can do it successfully. Make sure Germany can’t outrun your troops to Moscow. Build plenty of infantry and fighters if Germany is trying to bomb you. If you are playing Global, think about getting some of those 20 units from the Pacific side.

If Russia is down turn eight, you obviously mismanaged the war effort ;)

RE: Next Axis&Allies game?posted in News
Since everybody is throwing out their two cents I might as well get mine in. I am 15 years old. Axis and Allies all started one day on my 12th birthday. There it was. Axis and Allies 1941. I had no idea what it was, but it WAS everything I love. World War II, strategy, economy, dice, and plastic miniatures that allowed me to continue playing with toy soldiers! I played 1941 with a few others. I loved it. Then I heard that there were more. 1940 was my dream come true. I didn’t get it until my 15th birthday. By then I was a mini veteran, having played perhaps a hundred games of 1941 and 1914. I love 1940 more than any game. My friend has Pacific and I got Europe. We play (with at least twenty other individuals) weekly generally in 4 player games. 1941 has fallen far away. It is too boring now. But it was great the first two years. I still occasionally play more complicated setups and such on it, but it is basically being wasted. Yes. 1941 got me in the franchise. It worked. And it still does get some use…as someone else mentioned, its pieces are special. No other set has them. In China’s box there is a P-40. The US, UK, and USSR use them too. The tanks, although only historical for Russia and Germany, are a great add on (for them) and I even used the Tigers and Su-85s? As an addon heavy tank unit. There are so many other great units as well, that I think I would buy 1941 just to get them. Even if I were introduced to 1940 straight on, I would want 1941 still just so my Chinese could have P-40 Flying Tigers :-D

RE: RetroFuhrerMeister's 1940 Rules and Setupposted in House Rules
I realize this is quite out of place as I see that’s the main goal was better rules than better setup, but is it possible to play this with standard rules (perhaps only change the turn order)? My fellow gamers still refuse to play it, but I love to play any alternate setup I can get my hands on! Thanks.

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
The following situation. In Sea Zone 37, I as Japan have a destroyer and a transport. I have two land units in Siam. The UK has a cruiser and battleship in Sea Zone 37 as well. I can declare war THEN load my transport and go to Sumatra etc AND most importantly leave my destroyer in 37 to fight the UK? So in other words, when starting in a sea zone with enemy units, can some of your units stay and attack while others move on? Or must they move together?

RE: Are Mechs Too Strong?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
How about this for a small downgrade for mechs. When attacking you need two artillery to up the attack of on mech. exception: if you areattacking with an odd number of artillery, you may promote a mech with only one last artillery. In simpler terms 4 artillery promote 2 mechs. 5 artillery promote 3 mechs. 6 artillery promote 3 mechs.

I like it a lot! Unfortunately my group refuses to play a game which “forces them to learn everything all over again.” Particularly the NOs.

RE: G40 w/Vichy&Free France - work in progress, now mostly final. suggestions plz :)posted in House Rules
Here is a suggestion for Germany attacking Vichy:
Germany may only attack Southern France after which the following takes place:
Vichy units in southern France and the Mediterranean are destroyed immediately.
All other Vichy join Free France. -
RE: Are Mechs Too Strong?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
@PGMatt:
I don’t think Zhukov’s original question has been answered, that is, because of board and positional air strength are mech inf too strong and favor the Axis power’s too much?
The arguments I have read here are all about the nuts and bolts of the pieces and costs within a bubble.
If I am reading the original question/post correctly, the answer would be more like: When operating in Russia (Nov/Bel/Bry/Ros/Cauc) and East, as well as Sub-Sahara Africa only mechanized inf belonging to the original territory owner may use it’s extra movement point except as part of a paired blitz movement.
This would allow Germany to rebuild it’s front lines up to Ukraine and Poland with fair speed but bog down closer to Moscow and south into the middle east, while Japan would have a 1 hex per move slog across China or Siberia
I kind of dislike conditional rules. Maybe just add more. Chinese and Russian units?
