RE: Flags or Roundels?posted in Axis & Allies 1914
They’re more distinctive. All five allied powers used a 3 ring roundel.
However I fail to see why they’ve used the Russian coat of arms rather than the flag; another of those annoying inconsistencies that can seem so unprofessional.
Might be because it would look too similar to the French flag?

RE: Rules Questionsposted in Axis & Allies 1914
As I mentioned above, I see no reason for Germany not to just walk into Congo (assuming they also attack Belgium r1).
France could get the free IPC for Spanish Morocco, but I assume that this would force Spain into the enemy camp giving the CPs control of Spain and its small army.
@Hitlers:
The update that talks about the political situation says that Minor Powers with colonies don’t mobilize units in their colonies and that they only mobilize if their capital territory is attacked. Does this mean that if you invade Spanish Morocco or the Balearic Islands that there is no military presence? Meaning free IPC for France?
I wonder how that works out. Does Spain immediately go under the control of a Central Power or does it become a minor aligned power that waits to be activated?
If its the latter, I think I’d prefer to invade Spanish Morocco every game.

RE: Aircraft Questionposted in Axis & Allies 1914
Agree that Turkey could be stuffed, but the UK wouldn’t be able to put down 5-6 units in India AND ship them to Africa/Mid East unless Germany was already losing to France. They can’t be in both places in strength.
They may be able to easily go through Iran.
Unless Iran is 3IPCs or more, expect Turkey to be fighting two fronts against British units.

RE: Rules Questionsposted in Axis & Allies 1914
I have to assume strict neutrals behave like they did in Global 1940, basically turning all neutrals against the invading alliance.
Nope. In Larry’s reports, Germany decided to invade the Netherlands, which are neutral.
There wasn’t any mention of any neutrals flipping aside from Netherlands. -
RE: A possible gaming scenarioposted in Axis & Allies 1914
May be beneficial to gang up on Russia to force revolution rules early so its a (mostly) one front war.
Maybe… Maybe not.
Keep in mind that the victory conditions for the Central Powers requires them to at least be in control of either London or Paris. By the time you force Russia out of the game, France will be more difficult to take. Not many casualties would be inflicted on them as it could have if Germany focused on them, also USA and UK might have a larger presence there.
The more I think of it, the more I like Flashman’s idea for a Paris-Rome push.

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
But I can place a minor IC in Manchuria.
Yes, of course. Minor factories can be placed in any territory under your control that is worth at least 2 IPCs.
Major factories only in your original territories that are worth at least 3 IPCs.
… except islands/island groups… No factories of any kind can be built in those.

RE: Global 2nd edition Q+A ( AAG40.2)posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I have started a game with my son, can I build a major IC in Manchuria for Japan even though it has a China symbol on it? I know Japan starts with Manchuria.
No. Major ICs can only be placed on original territories. In other words, territories that start the game with your power’s symbol printed on it. Japan does start off with control of Manchuria, but Manchuria has the Chinese symbol on it, implying that this territory was originally China’s territory and therefore not an original Japanese territory.

RE: British Empire Postedposted in Axis & Allies 1914
If Iran is worth 1IPC and if the rendered picture is accurate to the setup, then the Ottoman Empire will be in a lot of trouble. I’d certainly invade Iran with all those British units in India. With the Brits in Trans-Jordan, Iran and perhaps with some help from Russia, it doesn’t look too good for the Ottomans. Especially since Britain can build land units in India.

RE: Mandatory Attacksposted in Axis & Allies 1914
Flashman isn’t saying that an Austrian invasion of Serbia is unhistorical, he’s saying that an all out invasion of Serbia before all other hostilities began is unhistorical.

RE: Images of the Map?posted in Axis & Allies 1914
I know I missed it somewhere, but are the colors for each nation listed?
Not sure if they are listed anywhere…
But this image of the map clearly shows the colors.

RE: Americaposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I’ve started favoring a simple formula, buy four subs a turn to use for crushing Italy and the rest for Japan. Sooner or later Italy will collapse under the submarine pressure.
This.
… Interesting. I think I’ll try this next time, actually.

RE: Attacking neutrals when your still neutral?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I understand why the rules are what they are, but I think Russia should be able to attack neutrals any time they want like the Axis… They did fight Finland before Germany.
The Winter War was concluded before the start of this game…
But I’m starting to agree that Russia should be able to attack neutrals without it losing its Neutral Power status.
Even though Finland will most likely be activated by Germany every game in the first round. -
RE: Unit Diceposted in Axis & Allies 1914
How many dice are we getting?>
And where does it talk about dice as proxy units?
In one of the reports, not sure which one. Larry mentions that dice are put on the battle board to represent the units in the battle, instead of taking the units and placing them on the battle board.

RE: Pointlessly Brokenposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I thought 2nd edition was supposed to be an improvement.
Well, the Alpha rules were tested with Global in mind, so… yeah…
I really wasn’t expecting identical set ups in the theaters with Alpha 3+ rules when the 2nd edition came out. -
RE: Recapposted in Axis & Allies 1914
And then I get beaten to it. lol.
It would be great if someone standardized those titles to make them easier to find…
If you haven’t seen any of them already, in the Harrisgamedesign link that WILD BILL provided…
It goes by the turn order that I posted earlier. With “Report from the Front Turn One” being the Austrian turn, so it starts from there.

RE: Is Germany screwed?posted in Axis & Allies 1914
Have a tech chart, with the roundel of the player on the tech(s) they’ve obtained.
Not so complicated. -
RE: Opening the door for more World War One based games? Your opinionposted in Axis & Allies 1914
Or an even weirder universe in which East Prussia is part of the Russia Empire in 1914, infantry walk to the front from their capital city instead of from the nearest railhead, and America gets involved in the war almost before everyone else has got seriously started.
Wait a minute…
And Russia switched their capital to Moscow before there was even any revolution at all.
Oh and no Mexico, which means there wasn’t a certain note sent that triggered the war.

RE: Recapposted in Axis & Allies 1914
What we’ve been given so far…
Turn order: Austria-Hungary, Russia, Germany, France, Britain, Ottoman Empire, Italy, and United States.
Starting IPCs-
Austria: 26
Russia: 26
Germany: 35
France: 24And yeah, you might want to check those summaries of turns by Larry if you haven’t already.
