What is the East Prussia problem?
That the area isn’t under German control and that somehow it is part of Poland.

I’ll just wait until HBG has the individual A&A 1914 pieces for sale. By then, I’m sure I’ll know how many pieces of what unit and for which country are “missing.”
The only difference between Global 1940 2nd Edition set up and Alpha+3 is that one UK infantry is removed from Egypt.
However, for Europe 1940 2nd Edition, that UK Infantry is retained since there won’t be 2 ANZAC infantry there.
Other minor changes include Korea being part of the whole Mongolia situation and that China cannot research Technology.
Europe 1940 and Pacific 1940 follow the exact same set up in Alpha+3…
Except, of course, no ANZAC in Europe 1940 and no Russia in Pacific 1940.
Europe 1940 and Pacific 1940 also have different USA NOs and an additional USSR NO for Europe.
With only 20 IPCs and being at the edge of the map, I think the US would be better off reinforcing the defences of a territory rather than attacking. Plus, they would only be able to afford 3 tanks a turn, as opposed to 6 infantry a turn.
I’m pretty sure that was confirmed a while ago, but even then… Tech could definitely make a more interesting game.
Flashman, why do you keep saying ‘Turqy’? Is that what it is supposed to be or is it a British English spelling or what? Always been ‘Turkey’ to me.
He’s poking fun at the fact that Turkey has the color turquoise in this game.
No, a country can only have a major IC in one of its starting territories that is worth >3 IPCs.
3 *
They start with major ICs in Europe 1940 and in Pacific 1940.
Minors that automatically upgrade to major when at war in Global 1940.
I remember one situation where the British fighters attacked German ships. It ended up with both sides destroying each other, but the German player was just glad that his transports survived… until the French fighter launched off and ruined his day. Hehe.
Try and stay alive.
I suppose.
To me, French infantry are the most expendable.
Their only main function is to reinforce two areas of Africa. Perhaps if the French Fighter flew down, some offensive options with those infantry or with the Destroyer will open up, but I don’t recall any situation where the fighter wasn’t already dead or more useful in England.
Of course, the few times where Germany left Normandy open, I’d use the French infantry and artillery there to attack. Either attempt to retake Southern France or attack Holland. Usually I attack Holland, especially if there are only planes there. Send the fighter there too if it doesn’t seem likely that Germany would get 3 hits.
Much less reasonable is Albania on 2, this was barely a state at all and had no industry or army to speak of.
Everything is wrong about Albania. It shouldn’t even be aligned to anyone. Neutral with 1 IPC would be better.
KISS
Tracks are complicated
Why? If you want KISS, have KISS rules then.
We already know the US rules, so why not share all house rule ideas? KISS or not.
I’d like to play a game with “complicated” house rules one day. I probably won’t find the people to play it with, but still interested nonetheless.
I didn’t analyze it thorougly to make sure, but I believe any time one of your dice is a 1, it would be less damage
1,1 = 2 damage instead of 3
1,2 = 3 damage instead of 4
1,3 = 4 damage instead of 5
1,4 = 5 damage instead of 6
1,5 = 6 damage instead of 7
1,6 = 7 damage instead of 8I’m not suggesting that you add 2 to the total of 2 dice.
I’m merely pointing out that on several different rolls your rule is actually causing less damage than the 2nd edition rules :-)
Yes, however…
knp’s rules: 2-12 damage
actual rule: 3-8 damage
So, he’s likely to cause more damage than the official rules allow.
@WILD:
Even if you use house rules for Russia after the Revolution and have Petro as the starting capital you’re not going to want the Germans to be next to Petro (or Moscow) in the first turn.
If the set up was true to history, Russia would be the one on the offensive early on.
But about the Russian capital… Moscow allows Russia to reinforce their southern territories a lot better than Petrograd would. Then again, they could have extended the special rules for Britain onto Russia so it could produce in both Petrograd and Moscow. But oh well, I guess.
Yeah, I agree that the U.S. shouldn’t be able to do anything before war is declared, but if that’s the case, they should have a much bigger starting land army. Lets not forget that, although they didn’t prepare for the war, they eventually deployed 2 million troops to the Western front, and I think they currently only start with like 6 infantry.
Don’t think I can agree with a larger army.
What they should have is a larger navy.
I use Germany’s bombers to bomb Britain’s IC.
And Italy’s to bomb an Egyptian IC if it seems that I can’t capture it soon.
Japanese bombers on the Indian IC.
That’s about it. I don’t ever recall using a British bomber or an American bomber to engage in strategic bombing.
Central Powers - Austria-Hungary
Allies - Britain
Originally I was excited to play as Turkey… but it doesn’t seem like they can do much.
I don’t think there are any new pieces
No new pieces?! ANZAC and Italy all have unique pieces now.
As a matter of fact, every nation has unique pieces for everything, even AA guns!
(Except the British transport and every French piece except their infantry… and China still uses US planes and artillery…)
If you mean no new pieces as in no new unit types, then well, the Anti-Aircraft Artillery units are new even though they’re just the successor to the AA guns.
@VZSTAL:
So I’ve been out of the A&A loop for about a year but recently decided to dust off old dice boot and get some friends into the game only to discover that there is this new 1940 2nd edition. Since its been released for a decent amount of time I was hoping I could get some advice about how much of an improvement this is and if there is a way to pick up only the new pieces as opposed to buying two more games.
THANKS!
Historicalboardgaming sells individual A&A pieces as well as custom pieces. You should check them out.
