    • RE: Containing the Ottomans

      It does make them neutral and off limits…
      The original rule allowed for the allies to be in Russian territories, but the new rule is that russia gives up NON-ORIGINAL territories. Its ORIGINAL territories that are in Russian control become off limits to everyone except for the territories that are contested with the Central Powers.

    • RE: Why is Italy an allied power?

      @Suvorov:

      Well, if you’re going to do that just treat the whole thing like Diplomacy and let anyone ally with anyone they want to.

      No, I wouldn’t go as far as letting everyone ally whoever they want.
      Or maybe I would, the more I think of it the more fun it sounds, but of course I wouldn’t call that WW1.
      But we’re not talking about changing the game to Diplomacy…

      @Suvorov:

      You’re free to make up any game you want to.

      Yes, we are.

      @Suvorov:

      1. I provided you with extensive quotes from a book of recognized quality that covers nothing but Italy during World War I, and all you could counter with was the same old tired arguments.  I could continue to argue, but at this point it reminds me of the old quote about how arguing on the Internet is like competing in the Special Olympics.  The entire point was to show you that what you are talking about is historically implausible, but you just don’t want to admit it.

      It’s historically implausible for the Axis powers to control much of the world then stage an invasion of the Americas. But it can happen in an A&A game. And it sounds like a fun scenario to play (Quite interested in that “Amerika” game.)

      My point is, whether its historically plausible or implausible… Why not give it a go? It is a GAME after all, not an actual representation of the war (which would suck cause the centrals would lose every game.) Of course, I’m not saying that you have to play this, but I don’t see everyone’s zeal for not having something just because it seems like a historical implausibility.

      @Texas:

      Huh?  I am asking what he is proposing to balance it out.  What adjustments would he make to make the option work.  I am curious to making it a possible way of playing it.  My post wasn’t meant to shoot the idea down.  I am having trouble seeing how you can make it where Italy decides once the game has begun.  I can see two different setups for each variation, but I don’t see it being possible to make the decision once the game has begun since that would be a pretty big swing one way to the other.

      Well, I don’t have anything specific, I’m just saying the idea can work if you put in other adjustments. But before I ever try to do such a thing, I need to play more actual games of A&A 1914.

    • RE: Why is Italy an allied power?

      I don’t see why many are so against having Italy be a Central Power due to historical reasons…

      We’re talking about an alternate history scenario here. The slightest possibility makes anything possible, and well, Italy was an official ally of Austria and Germany… So why can’t we just play it and say “What if?”

      Who cares.
      It could be a fun house rule, if the thought makes you irritated then obviously its not suited for you.

    • RE: Why is Italy an allied power?

      Obviously you’ll need to do more to the game than just change the political situation of the Italian player.

      Things that will need to be changed are the set up and perhaps add new rules. There is no way the game will be balanced with the way it is now when you let Italy decide to flip to either alliance.

      It sounds like a fun idea though. There’s no need to stomp down on it and say it can’t or shouldn’t be done.

      @wittmann:

      Krieg: can the allies move into a colony belonging to Belgium or Portugal and take the 1IPC, or must a CP capture it first?
      Thank you.

      @Krieghund:

      @Flashman:

      13. Can the UK or Italy move into Congo/Angola/PE Africa at any time, and if so who gets control/money?

      Yes, and the attacking power would get control.

    • RE: Russian Revolution

      Yep. Russia dropping out the game via revolution doesn’t give the Central Powers a victory point towards capturing capitals. You’ll still need to capture two enemy capitals.

      @Flashman:

      Perhaps Paris-Moscow is the best chance for the CPs, but if the Russians go rebel what do you do then? Rome is difficult enough to take when you’re been going for it from day one.

      Then don’t take more than 2 territories adjacent to Moscow…

      Yes

      2. what are the system requirements?

      Not sure, but I imagine your system should be more than good enough. It’s just like playing a board game, only on your computer…

      Belgium isn’t a French original territory though, so it wouldn’t get “liberated” by Britain.
      It would just give ownership to the conquering power.

    • RE: Preview 5: A Turn by Turn Game of 1914

      I suppose it depends on how the Ottomans held up at that point to decide whether the game goes to the Centrals or if it should go on.

      Soviets? Don’t think you’ll find any such thing in this game.

      I don’t think Germany will pick off France really easily. I’m sure France can hold its own for a little while until it gets reinforcements. And hey, even if Germany is sending all of its units to France… that doesn’t mean that they will win. Russia would probably be doing fairly well in such a scenario.

    • RE: Axis and Allies 1914 FAQ/Question and Answer Thread

      You’re looking too far into the minor aligned neutrals. Sure if Britain activates Belgium, France gets control and the troops. But there is nothing beyond that relationship between Belgium and France.

      Belgium is not an original territory of France. If Britain managed to remove all Central Powers units from Belgium, Britain would gain control of Belgium.

      I’m sure the same concept applies to your Russian aligned Holland.

      @Babubaer:

      Can the china fighter land in Kwangtung and in Burma?
      I mean yes because it is original china territory and china can also move units there so it is also allowed?

      Yes, the Chinese fighter can move into Kwangtung and Burma. Even if Britain isn’t at war with Japan.

      However, Burma and Kwangtung aren’t original Chinese territories. They’re original British territories.

    • RE: What exactly are tanks good for?

      It’s better to have 2 infantry… You’ll still be absorbing a hit while having two shots at the enemy and much better defense… I think a tank would only be useful in attacking lightly held territories, but not much else.

      Suppose France invades Spanish Morocco. Since this isn’t a capital territory, no units are mobilized here correct?
      And what about Spain? Does Spain mobilize units in response to this event or would it remain neutral?

    • RE: Worst part of the game so far

      I thought it was pretty awesome to be part of the Alpha testing.
      Back when only one of my friends had A&A G40, we went from playing a few OOB sessions to Alpha+ 2 when we discovered it, then to Alpha+ 3 when it came out and now Second Edition.

      I think having played with different set ups and rules is part of what made the experience of playing Global 1940 one of the best I’ve had so far with board games.
