      I think you noted SZ112 as having 1 cruiser and 1 destroyer. It has 2 cruisers ;). But they both hit, so it doesn’t make a difference…

      Alpha +2, no techs, please.

      I have a slight inclination towards playing the allies over the axis. Is that ok with you? If yes, please start the thread with G1.

    • Captain Hook (Allies) V Commander Jennifer (Axis) - No tech - Global 1940

      Here is the game ready to go.

      As this is my first game online, excuse any questions I might have.

      I presume that we detail all our moves here, and then keep track on our separate AAbattlemap files.

      My question is: in battles, how do we choose which enemy units die? Are we always assuming that the other will chose to lose the units with the lesser defence value first? But, that might not always work.

      I chose the allies so that I could observe what you did, at first, to understand the mechanics of online playing.

      Game on!

      YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!!

    • RE: How much should be forgiven?

      I most definitely believe that people should behave in a gentlemanly manner, meaning that, as you said, I see no problem in someone changing their purchases half way through the combat movement phase (as long as no combat resolution has taken place), placing his units during a turn that his not his, if he forgot, ect… That just makes the game easier for everyone. Also, if we miscounted IPC, we do change the total, both in favour of against a player, EXCEPT for convoy disruptions. If one forgets to remind his enemy not to lose income from convoys, it is his own fault.

      Regarding letting people know their mistakes, I think it is fair to warn the other person when he is about to make a clear game-changing mistake.

      For example: Thinking that american troops are out of Japan’s reach, the Japanese player leave the Island barely defended.

      For smaller mistakes, like the ones you described, players have to live with it. However, if I feel that I have the upper hand in the game, I will tell my opponent, because I don’t want them complaining later.

      Furthermore, as I said in another topic, it is common within our games that I player will ask things like “we are all in agreement that no planes can reach these transports?!”, as it is often hard to see absolutely every hidden fighter on the board, without taking 10 minutes of everyone’s time to do so.

    • RE: Any Tips?

      Although my friends and I play for a clear victory, we do indeed think that there is no point in seizing it by profiting by someone’s obvious inattention or simply forgetting to do something.

      Indeed, whenever one of us is about to make something extraordinarily stupid, he will systematically be warned.

      Also we often ask each other questions like “we agree that no planes can reach those transports”, or the such. It is so easy not to see a sneaky fighter hidden in the middle of a stack of 35 other units.

      In short, we believe that there is nothing like a sound victory, stemming from superior-strategy, over the opponent’s absent-mindedness.

    • RE: Win, lose…draw?

      @Young:

      If your group is stuck in this passive mind set, you can through them off with small attacks early and often, or maybe you should just start your games earlier.

      Well that doesn’t happen that often any more, now that we have played quite a bunch of games. But you always have your odd one out,  where all the american fleet is in the pacific, the Germans have a massive defensive capability, and the russians are turtling. Normally, in these situations, I tend to think that the allies are going to win, but it takes just too long.

    • RE: Win, lose…draw?

      @Young:

      If you can’t win and don’t want to continue the game toward an eventual loss, than you should surrender honorably and give your opponent the win they deserve.

      Much agreed.

      My adversaries/friends and I tend to call it a draw only when it is 4am and we see that winning the game, for either side would take another 6-7 turns at least. Basically, when both armies have been able to build such stacks of units, that no one wants to attack and that it would take a great number of turns, before anyone’s advantage is gets clear.

    • RE: Alpha 2 - Is it possible to beat Italy?

      I see your point.

      Yet, even if defeated, in Taranto, the Italians will get 2 of their NOs on turn 3, as they will successively destroy the UK than the French fleet, and then proceed to conquer Gibraltar and Greece. However, I do indeed concur with the rationale behind your strategy. I did try to pull it off twice and failed, yet it does seem that I was unlucky with the dice, and that I didn’t think about bringing a plane from London.

      Thank you, sir!
