    • Need help with online play.

      Alright, I am going to ridicule myself, but the end crowns the means.

      Here it goes: I REALLY don’t understand how to play AA Global with the different programs, and everyone here seems to have some kind of ancient lore about it.

      My friends and I have been trying to figure it out for the last couple days, as we are spread thin around the globe (pursuing various summer projects).

      I have downloaded AAbattlemap and Sgt. Wonko’s module.

      When I open AAbattlemap, it doesn’t take the nice layout and elements of Sgt. Wonko’s module. Plus, AABattlemap just seems to be a map in which I can move units around, but it has no game dynamics.

      So here are the questions:
      -How do I incorporate the module into AAbattlemap
      -How do I start a game with my friends?

      Really sorry about asking that, I genuinely feel stupid, but I feel like I have looked over most things and couldn’t find it.

      I see.
      So by saying “Taranto” what is referred to? The british fleet attacking the italian fleet in 95 or in 97?

      @Frontovik:

      leftovers from taranto and indian fighters should be enough.

      At the risk of sounding retarded: what do you mean “taranto”?

    • RE: Soviet Union Strategy

      I don’t get how the Soviets can match the Germans “Tank for Tank”. The German economy is usually around: 45-55 whilst the Russian at most 37.

      4 inf + 4 art + 1tank (34 IPC), save 3 and buy a second tank every other turn.

      Although I like the idea of using planes to hassle…

      My question follows:
      In Alpha +2, if Germany play “as expected”, meaning that they threaten the sea lion (by having a few barges, ect…) but are actually going more towards invading Russia.  How do you manage to keep the Italians off Egypt?

      I know that might sound strange, but in all my games, the damn pizza-eating bastards take it…

    • RE: Russia giving up and putting everything in the Major Cities

      Gentlemen,

      The thing is that ounce Stalingrad, Leningrad and Ukraine have fallen, the Germans control 3 factories within Russia, I have even sometimes seen a player build a 4th one, therefore popping out 9 to 12 tanks a turn. The Reds are often reduced to around 6-10 IPCs a turn, and therefore, in less than 2 turns just get completely overrun.

      My Strategy would therefore be to keep the germans out, as far and as long as possible and just gradually retreating into Moscow.

    • RE: The best 166 IPC Fleet.

      @docfav7:

      Anyways, you can never just concentrate on one theater for 3 straight turns unless you plan on losing.  You have to give some to Europe side of the board.

      These are the first 3 turns of the game, in which can’t really do anything but build.

      I also think there is very little point in sending “a few units here and there” with the yankees. IMO, they should have “Juggernaut” approach to war; namely, build a bunch of things -> send them. Rather than a guerilla approach in which they just send a few troops at a time, the English and/or the ANZAC are in a far better position for that.

      @Gargantua:

      Many things.

      Good points there.

      However when I say “fully loaded” I mean A carrier with a tac and a fighter. Although, I am sure that you had understood and wanted to take the piss ;).

      I intended to use the 2 originally provided transports (I forgot to mention that).

      My whole strategy here is simply to wipe out Japanese naval resistance, therefore allowing ANZAC and Eastern UK (if they survive) to retake a bunch of territories and revive the China Problem.

      Hi,

      I would definitely love to play in Montreal, preferably AAG40 (alpha+2).

      My email is:

      felix.lahaye@gmail.com

      My problems are: I can only play on evening, during the week (not weekends) and that I have had to leave my games in London (I do speak French fluently, however).

      Please contact me, as I would love to play!!!

    • The best 166 IPC Fleet.

      Greetings,

      This might come in as a pointless question, but I was wondering what would be the best (balanced for attack and defense) fleet, for  166 IPCS (3 turns of US income, in global, focus only on pacific fleet). Knowing that there already are 3 fighters, 1 battleship, 2 cruisers and 2 destroyers (if my memory isn’t playing tricks on me) scattered around the western side of the board.

      I would go for:
      4 carriers -> 64
      4 Tacticals -> 44
      1 figther -> 10
      1 cruiser -> 12
      3 destroyers -> 24
      2 subs -> 12

      Total: 166.

      For a grand total of 4 “Loaded” Carriers, 3 cruisers, 5 destroyers, 2 subs.

      Your thoughts?

      Yaaar!!!

    • RE: Does anybody use Kamikaze?

      My strategy with Kamikaze strikes is to use the against the “buffer” ships.

      When the Yankees engage Japan in a see battle it is usually pretty large scale. As a result, they tend to have quite a few cruisers and destroyers, that they use as casualties, to protect the planes, and carriers. Therefore, I would usually throw 1 kamikaze per 1-hit-ship. As my fleet tends to  also be of considerable size, I take out a few ships before they even get a chance to shoot AND I prevent them being used as buffer, therefore forcing my enemy to take out more “useful” units, in the first round of combat.

      yaar!

    • RE: Thoughts on Industrial Complexes

      Ho, I see. I thought that, as they couldn’t use them, they were just destroyed…

      Well I would say that I quite agree with your idea. However, it poses a slight disadvantage for the allies, upon retaking normandy.

    • RE: Thoughts on Industrial Complexes

      To be honest, I find it rather useful that they destroy industrial complexes. Seeing how difficult it is for China to keep any invaded territory from the seemingly overwhelming Japanese forces.

      I actually would find it useful if Russians could destroy their own industrial complexes, which they actually did in the real War…

      @JimmyHat:

      Try reading the rulebook, I believe its 40 pages…and then there’s the supplement.

      I think there is a difference between not reading the rulebook and misinterpreting certain of it’s aspects. :-)

    • RE: The French

      @knp7765:

      Once Paris is captured by the Axis, any other French territory that is captured by the Axis then RE-captured by the Allies will have it’s IPC value going to the liberating power.  Also, that liberating power can use any facilities on that territory (ICs, naval bases & air bases).

      Are these original (alpha2) rules?!?!?! Or is it what you suggest?

    • RE: Italy and Alpha2

      SIDE NOTE: My opponent/enemy/best friend and I decided that the UK should also have a 2 IPC bonus for each of the middle east territories, as we assumed it fair that the Brits could also use the oil, and that Axis powers didn’t have a monopoly on fuel powered vehicles.

      It didn’t make a difference.

    • RE: Italy and Alpha2

      This Fighter is moved to Malta. But yes, they would be exposed. However, the would probably back them with a ship or two.  Even, if the UK consolidates his fleet with the French, the italian 3 planes, battleship, 2 cruisers, 2 destroyers and 1 sub are plenty enough to space a couple to save the barges.

      Or they could wait 1 turn, which doesn’t make much of difference.

    • The French

      Gents,

      I know, I just posted another topic on alpha a moment ago, but this has nothing to do with it. Simply giving my feedback on alpha2 global, good sirs.

      Regarding the French:

      I sincerely think the French are not properly set in this game for two reasons:
      -Historic Reason: The French in WWII are “notorious” for their pockets of resistance, their African divisions (under Leclerc) and their exploitation of their colonized peoples (which is one of the big motives for later decolonization). The FFF/FFL (Free French Forces/Forces Francaises Libres) continued rallying up in Africa and in London throughout the war, to finally have quite a few companies by 1945 (20 divisions roughly), out of which a few were amoured.

      This is clearly not represented in the game, witht the French basically having 1 infantry and 1 plane left (in london) by turn 3, and that’s it.

      -Gameplay reasons: The French are currently more of liability to the allies than they are an advantage for the simple reasons that all their income is completely wasted, just being up for grab to the axis AND, more importantly, that every time that one of their territories is reconquered it is “liberated” giving it’s income to nobody at all, and disallowing the allies to use its factories.

      What I propose:
      option 1: the French have the “China Advantage” of being able to continue acquiring IPC without a capital and build units wherever they want (including London), on the Europe Map. However, the fall of Paris still grants 19 IPCs to germany.
      option 2: Once Paris has fallen the French Territories become like the Dutch’s, meaning that they can be liberated and administrated by other allies.

      What are your thoughts, gentlemen?
