      Yeah especially my last move as UK was a mistake. It was nice being able to shuttle fighters between Caucasus and English channel but I couldn’t simultaneously support the US landing in France. That dynamic was a bit new to me. I did think the fighter build was sometimes thin but I sort of liked the promise of it. I’d try it again.

      Your Japan play by the way… nicely executed. Your army size snuck up on me because I was expecting the attack a turn earlier. In other games I’ve had success with Russian forces re-attacking India but I threw that chance away with the fighter build. The more I think about the fighter the more I regret it. 4 infantry would have made a nice buffer against some of Japan’s early ground.

      When we play next we might as well play on the same map.

      Our argument is really simple:

      8a - Scrambling/intercept/submerge/kamikaze assumptions - When you make an assumption, you are accepting the risk that your opponent will disagree after seeing your turn. If your opponent takes issue with an assumption, you should come to an agreement about how to handle it. If you don’t agree, then the defender can require that the entire combat phase be re-rolled from the beginning. Or, you may seek a moderator ruling.

      It would have been very easy for Karl7 to ask for scramble orders. He chose not to because it gave him a negotiating advantage. Because not doing so gave him the chance to have it both ways. If he got sweet dice (which he did) and we asked for a reroll he could pitch a fit (which he did) and maybe get them to stick. If he got mediocre dice, he would get another swing at the fences.

      All we ask for is direct application of the rules. The defender has the right to scramble. If the attacker ignores this right, the defender has the right to ask for a re-roll of the combat phase. Karl knew this full-well when he chose to ignore our scramble option.

      So you are suggesting that the British player loses his capital so that he can sink the German navy? Seems kind of far fetched to me. Yeah, I guess if the German navy were taken out, it would help the US Navy later on and they could liberate London possibly. In the mean time, Germany got to plunder the British treasury and run hog wild on Russia while Italy gets strong in the Med and Africa since the UK can no longer replace their losses there. I suppose India could send stuff over to face Italy, but what if they are being pressured by Japan?

      Yes, but Germany spent 2 rounds of income on a fleet so they essentially lose their ground units, probably some air units, the French treasury and whatever ground they have left would be sitting on London, assuming this worked/works.

      So what’s holding back the Russians at that point?  They can DOW the round London falls.  (great, now I have that Fergie song in my head!  Bastages!!!)

      I think it’s a fun game, especially if you want something relatively quick and simple. While I love Global, occasionally it is nice to play something that is so simple. I think it is more fun as the attacker because you simply don’t have to worry about SBRs or shore bombardment. Also, no AA fire to threaten your planes.
      I think it is easier for the Axis to win. I have played a handful of games and only once so far did the Allies win, although I have not tried the new changes in setup yet. Also, I might have been just lucky so far (I usually play Axis). I have noticed if certain battles don’t go right for the Axis, the Allies could gain the upper hand.
      Basically, it’s good if you just got a couple of hours or so to kill and you don’t want to leave the game set up.

      Just as a side note Make_It_Round, in alpha if you had a Japanese sub in the sz he couldn’t do an amphib w/transports only. This would force him to bring in surface ship(s) to escort the transports. Then you could use your sub & kami’s to try and sink his surface ship(s) if he still does the amphib. You probably only have a destroyer as a target, but hey makes him think.

      Don’t think I’ve played to a 9 VC win. Agreed that Hawaii being a VC makes it almost impossible for allies to win, or at the very least it forces America to go pacific or give up a free VC, and then all the axis need to do is hold onto easy to take VC’s.

      Yea you can fit like 4-5 AA41 games in a day or just 2 AA42. So in terms of determining a winner in a single elimination tournament, AA41 is a much better choice. Then you graduate to AA42 in say semi and Global for final.

      That brings alot more people into the fold since AA41 is meant to draw new people into the game and you got them playing 4-5 games. Tournaments should cater to getting new blood into AA and if the intimidation of say playing global or AA50 keeps people away, AA41 is the cure bringing everybody into the lowest common denominator of the AA franchise.

      Actually, I have come to reverse my previous position on the aesthetics of the map. It’s not that bad. Just a few things stood out to me initially, like mongolia, or saudia arabia’s nipple.

      But I got a refresher of an old pic from an ex (MB and even Revised). And I’m quite happy with this new picece of tail.

      Glad I produced a chuckle or two.

      It’s such a shame that Larry can’t just take a look at a prototype sample of a given game before it’s released! I’m sure ANY other board game company could do a better job than WotC… I just wish they cared.  :-(

      I believe most of the time he does.  Just sometimes things fall through the cracks and things get sent out before his stamp of approval goes on it.  You guys are perfectionist and that makes it tough on all of us when it comes to AA.  I know that from my standpoint, it would be very nice if we lived in a perfect world were things could be just as is and it made everyone happy.  But the reality of it is that, WotC is a company and looks at it from a business standpoint.  Whatever that means?

      All I am saying is that I am not sure ANY other board game company could do better than WotC?

      mongolia is only triggered if the Japanese attack any Soviet territory that is adjacent to any Mongolian territory.
