    • RE: Release Date is December 15, 2009

      @djensen:

      And I’m hoping to get my review copy within the next week or two. This time it will be a few more weeks before the release and I’ll actually be around.

      Wow. Well we all anxiously await your review then.

      @Brain:

      You can still download triple A at other sites

      Yeah, I happened to catch a link from somone’s signature. Haven’t had a chance to check it out yet though.

      Can you play live online in it? Like over a LAN connection?

      @andreyGTA:

      I do agree on the AA40 map changes among other things, thats why I will turn to this board to seek out map files( the current large AA50 is beautiful).

      Isn’t it?

      I am currently working with some friends to turn it into a playable 3D board with terrain and unit effects. I will let everyone here know when it is all up and finished. The idea is to make it a little like tripple A, which I never actualy got to play before they shut it down.

      Welcome to the board andrey,

      The short answer is no. The board(s) will look quite different with many new territories as well as new rules, game pieces and even new countries.

      However, you could take a look at the 1940 set up and modify your own board to simply reflect the relative power of each country for that particular year (ie: slap some neutral or British units on France etc.)

      That being said, you already have an awesome version of AA. Most consider AA50 to be the pinnacle of Axis and Allies thus far. It is also fairly hard to get your hands on a copy these days.

      My advice to you: Play AA50 until you know every strategy, the board is worn-out and your downright bored of it. (My guess is this will take YEARS to accomplish.)

      Have fun with your new game and don’t feel like your missing out by not getting the “new edition.” It’s a totally different game. And I’m sure you will have fun with it once you have mastered the Anniversary.

      Welcome to the boards and happy gaming!

    • RE: The Dutch, Canadians, & French

      Therefore, in AAP40 French IPCs are British or American IPCs yet in the European and Global games they will be played by a seperate player.

      But there was mention that the Dutch territories did not function like the French in AAP40.

      They will therefore either be defended by some force (unlikely)

      or their IPC value will not be recorded in with annother power.

      What’s up with the Dutch?

    • RE: The Dutch, Canadians, & French

      My guess is the Dutch will have no units but the IPCs will go to either ANZAC or UK (or both?)

      There might be a few token units but thinking historically, the Dutch didnt have much of a force in the South Pacific, (which is why it was such easy pickings for Japan) and the responsability to protect it fell primarily on the UK and ANZAC.

      I would expect most undefended territories, maybe a small garrison controlled by the UK or ANZAC.

      Also@WILD:

      This will also allow the Japs to build up income. At the same time the Japs will be taking parts of Russia (uncontested), and invading China. When the Dutch Islands are liberated I would think the income would be given to the Anzac regardless of who does the liberating for game balance.

      I was under the impression you could not invade Russia at all in AAP40.

      So an airbase provides you the ability to launch fighters into the adjacent seazone for defensive purposes.
      Any other bonuses for the airbase?

    • RE: Rules for subs in AAP40

      Agreed. I think too much game complexity can be a seriously bad thing. Simplicity is one of the advantages AA has over other WWII simulation games, it makes it fun to play for the average person, which means more recruits!

      Keep the subs simple, they are almost too complex as it is, what with the subs not actually being there unless there is a destoryer present and all. And convoy zones will give them a more historically acurate role anyway.

    • RE: Rules for subs in AAP40

      @Brain:

      By the end of the war subs were nowhere near as effective as in the beginning of the war. The destroyers had the edge in that confrontation. For the subs, the hunters bacame the hunted.

      This is true. Furthermore, subs played a much bigger role in the atlantic than they did in the pacific, and with the inclusion of the “supply lines” I am sure subs will see their fair share of the action.

    • RE: Map query

      Not to ressurect a dead thread here, but this idea that Kwangsi and Kiangsi are going to be occupied by Japan at game start is really getting to me.

      In original AA Pacific they were not controlled by Japan and even in AA50 they are Chinese territories.

      What’s with breaking with tradition and historical accuracy in this version?

      Is the idea just to prevent any uncontested landings in China by the allies? Or did Larry and crew just think Japan needed a little extra boost?

      It seems pretty important to me given that without the Japanese occupation, the UK or  ANZUS could freely land troops to reinforce China. Now all that is left is the garrison at Kwangtung to drop guys in, and a good Japanese player will have this neutralized ASAP

      Thoughts everyone?

      I take it by the fact that they do not appear on the preliminary map photos that you do indeed build them. Though there will obviously be some built at game start.

    • RE: ALL TANKS EVERY PURCHASE FOR GERMANY

      @Gargantua:

      I think posting with CAPS LOCK OFF. if the first step to beat Russia, or even win a game, of Axis and Allies.

      Hahaha, well said.

      On the actual topic, I think you could almost get away with it with Germany if you are really agressive on Russia and/or playing a lame-duck UK. You might want to throw a bomber or two in there on G2 just to get something with some power to the front line, but if you’re going for broke in Moscow on G3 then a big/all tank build G1 would be the way to go.

      Yo EvilDude,

      If you live in or near Vancouver, Dextrol Games is on 4th and MacDonald. They will order you a copy and you can guarantee one on release day for the regular retail price. This is how I got AA1942 and it is how I will be getting both of the AA1940 games. Plus, the girl who works there is pretty cute too.  :wink:

      And if you go by there you can stop by my place for a game because I only live 4 blocks away!
