      @insanehoshi Yes, we are aware the rule state that Blockade is a combat move instead of it being automatic but I was in great position to do it and needed the destroyers just encase the Allies wanted to try a desperate attack against my German navy.

      @insanehoshi That is what we thought as well. I know the Soviets can give permission to allow Lend Lease, I just wanted to see if this is allowed just encase I get a Soviet players who is a bit hostile to Germany.

      Remember that the fortification is not simply « a wall » but « a major defensive network » (Rule 12.7).

      It does affect units that attack « across that border », so you can circumvent it, but if even one unit attacks from the fortified border, then all land units will defend at +2 for the first round, as there is no other way to play the combat round.

      However, you could argue that the two first strikes at 5 from the fortification itself should only hit units that actually crossed the fortified border…

      As @Caesar-Seriona pointed out : just don’t do it. If you have enough units in place to attack from the unfortified border, then you should only send these into combat.

      @hbg-gw-enthusiast
      Thanks for the compliments! When we were still we, we did our best to achieve that.

      I don’t want to go too much off topic. But a short intro back to the topic is allowed I assume.

      For the future I will work with the original designer of the first Global War map who offered it for free back in the days. We will make sure that our version updates will be available for free as well. You would then only have to print the map or change it if you wish customizations. And the rules would be written, without commercial interest. These would also be for free. Deathhead’s legacy carries on! That is an allegiance statement.

      And this French units house rule solution for Allied units in surrendering friendly vessels will be in it too. 😃

      So to stay on topic, I don’t have an official answer for the question, only a house rule solution. Good question! The situation did not occur to us during development. Indeed HBG should clarify.

      @Caesar-Seriona They will work with most versions of A&A.
      The issue will be that Anniversary and Global have more territories on the map than1942 2ed.
      Some have suggested using a die to decide. (if 1942 has one territory but the other has three, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 die roll to see who gets the zombies)
      You might run short of zombies as well, but painting up some infantry from a parts game should work well.

      I don’t think anything else is needed.

      @Midnight_Reaper:

      @Caesar:

      So in order for me to explain the situation, you have to already understand how to play zombies and this didn’t cross my mind to ask the developers because I just encountered it now.

      So here is the situation: Zombies are co existing with Japanese troops, Germany wants to attack the Zombies in Japanese territories. So when Zombies roll for their attack, Germany being the attacker can only be attacked if the Zombie rolls an “A”. What in this situation makes Japanese troopers? I don’t have an answer for this. What I told my buddy and we agreed with is that because Japan is not the aggressor, that technically makes them the defender so Zombies would have to roll a “D” to attack them. However, officially by rule, I am not sure how to actually treat this. I am 99% sure Japanese soldiers can’t attack the zombies with Germany so this is the only way I can see this working.

      How would this work if the Germans were attacking into a British-held territory with Zombies in it? It would work like that, only you obviously restrict your hits to the Zombies instead of your fellow-Axis-power Japanese troops. So, from what I understand, the Zombies would roll A to hit the Germans and D to hit the Japanese. Since it’s the German turn, the Japanese troops just kind of hang out until their turn. At which point, if the Japanese attacked the Zombies in their territory with the Germans present, when the Zombies make their roll an A would hit the Japanese (who are doing the attacking at this point) and a D would hit the Germans (who are likewise hanging out while the Japanese troops do their thing).

      Make sense?

      -Midnight_Reaper

      If you engage a territory owned by your enemy, you have to attack the territory. Fortunately because of the dice, you are also attacking zombies.

      No, I took everything that could hit Egypt on G1 and the battle destroyed UK and only tank survived with four zombies so UK carded the zombies into near by territories and mopped it up with UK and US forces. Each turn you draw a card that puts one zombie in a random territory and a perk that can help or hurt you.

      @CWO:

      @Caesar:

      So I played a game where as I was USSR, US decided to bomb a Japanese transport and land it in USSR territory as well as asking me to leave infantry behind to defend the bomber if Japan goes after it.

      Historically, there were a few cases of US B29s bombing Japan and then, due to battle damage, flying onward to land in the relatively near USSR rather than returning to their home bases.  The planes and their crews were interned by the Soviets because it was a violation of neutrality for the US to use the territory of the USSR as part of a military operation against Japan, given that the USSR and Japan were not at war with each other until August 1945.  The OOB Global rules don’t go into that level of detail, but they do say:

      Due to its separate treaties with Germany and Japan, the Soviet Union is in a unique position in its relationship with the Axis powers. As a result, if the Soviet Union is at war with Axis powers on only one map, it is still under the restrictions of being a neutral power (see “Powers Not at War with One Another,” page 15) on the other map. In other words, a state of war with Japan lifts those restrictions from the Soviet Union on the Pacific map only, and a state of war with Germany and/or Italy lifts those restrictions on the Europe map only.

      From my understanding of OOB Lend Lease, it states that it is broken by Axis movements or any allies in said original USSR territory which was broken for me even though said units were not being used against Germany or Italy.

      An oddity for me today:

      J5 and Japan just took Iraq.

      No one else has touched the middle east due to various reasons.  India is turtled and earning 5 ipcs.  London was taken and some bad roles seriously hindered the UK overall.  U.S. just liberated London and is starting to gather in Pacific (2 turns til at full attack ready)

      So now Japan has Iraq with 5 inf and the SZ has a transport, carrier with 2 planes, a sub, and a cruiser.

      I’m thinking I might put a factory there and be a giant PIA the rest of the game.  Threaten Cairo that way.  Or support my attacks on Russia… about to finish off China.

      There’s two basic allied responses to holding France G1.

      Run away and allow Italy to clean up. Bulk up France with UK so Italy can’t take it.

      In case (2), I say surrender, even though it may cost the allies the entire RAF. In case (1), you may be able to keep playing. I’ve got a game going now where Paris did fail, I think I should have deferred the DOW on USSR until G4 and played Japan as normal. This does allow a few allied actions like USA reaching the med or Norway. However, it is better than letting the Soviets push back all over the shop and get communism objectives for Scandinavia etc. I suppose this is a bigger deal in balanced mod because as soon as you DOW, you release the increased NOs for USSR. Also, all the money from being at war allowed the Soviets to buy enough planes to stop me from being able to effectively strat bomb Moscow.

      Well as I said before, Italy shot Germany in the foot that lead to Axis defeats years later and Hitler already knew this, that is why he began to reject Italian help whenever it was sent.

      Look at it like this, Italy invaded Greece because Muso wanted to restore the Roman Empire hence his attack on Greece plus he just defeated two nations prior without help so in his mind, he thought Greece would be cake. Attacking Greece and being counter attacked by Greek/UK forces lead to the Wehrmacht being sent in to help the Italians which leads to Greek defeat. That lead to the pyrrhic victory that became Crete. Axis looked at paratroopers as being cancer and that lead to the Allies learning why paratroopers are useful which that bit the Axis in the A$$ in the end.

      Of course as for Africa, I am sure Germany didn’t mind helping Italy because I figured Germany taking Egypt would cut of the UK navy from India as well as link Axis forces in the Middle East gaining oil reserves and possibly a secondary front against USSR. I don’t know if Germany would have the balls to attack India in this situation.

      Obviously Germany had virtually no respect for the Italians. I think Rommel was the only one who spoke favorably about the Italian soldiers, hated their officers. After Italy surrendered and about half of the Italian military joined the Allies, Germany had no problem going from defending their allies to suddenly occupying a nation as well as engaging their former allies.

      I’m looking forward to HBG’s set, but if you need some pieces prior to their release check out Shapeways and GHQ.  Ebard has a great selection of French ships and GHQ,though pricey, has an equally great selection of armored vehicles. Planes are hard to come by, but I was able to find a few in the right size from Shapeways.

      That’s because each nation during WWII learned different lessons during that war. USSR build their tanks to be cheap because they know they will lose equipment and men. They accept that losing soldiers is going to happen so they tend to use numbers to gain the edge, however they haven’t needed to do this since WWII. The last tried this in Afgan and it didn’t work so well.

      The US can’t take loses for $hit, so we try to destroy you from the air, far way, as fast as possible and units that are designed to be in your face while fighting are armored up.

      @simon33:

      @Caesar:

      I get that now. And I’m not here to argue with the rules one bit. I am saying it’s stupid and I am sure people agree with that. However, again, I understand why the rule exist.

      It’s stupid but you understand why it exists? Hmm…

      Yeah, it’s stupid that nation without a government can’t lend its territory to its allies. We saw this in WWII with African colonies that refused to serve Vichy France nor Germany in there occupied parents. However, I also can see why for the sake of the game, you can’t just walk into your allies and then annex there income, the Allies would have the greatest advantage of just converting French territory.
