Do people see Italy as an Axis minor? I don’t, I know it’s the poorest major power in the game but it’s still a major power. My two cents on this debate is you either take Italy and have it support Germany when it invades USSR or you use Italy as a naval power to keep India and UK from linking up or you can take a more questionable route and try to do both.

RE: Defenders being able to retreat?
Well most of the violations of historical example in AnA is usually done due to balance rather than history. I personally like the idea I had where defense can retreat after the attacker attacks.

RE: Nation Specific (special) Units
4 ICP would be better for a unit that attacks at 2 and defends at 1.

RE: Nation Specific (special) Units
The problem with doing a 2 attack and 1 defense at 3 is that you basically give no good reason to use infantry any more if your attacking.

RE: Nation Specific (special) Units
I support nations specific units but it is kind of pointless to do it because of the powers didn’t have anything special but I will say that we need a game that allows transport planes and paratroopers to be used in the game. Not sure if Italy used them but all of the allied nations had paratroopers and Germany and Japan used them at some point.

RE: Should we make better rules for invadable neutrals? (1940)
Which is insane to see Germany do that is the fact of the matter is that Germany from 37 to 43, did not give two $hits about your neutrality and only choose not to invade Switzerland or Sweden because those two nations had an actually good size military. I like the idea of small neutral alliances but I believe Switzerland should have ten infantry, not two. As Switzerland went into war economy once France was invaded. I would go as far as giving Switzerland two fighters and two AA guns.

RE: Defenders being able to retreat?
I have yet to see any rules that would allow it. I agree it would change the play style of the game very much but I would work the rule like this. Defense out of fairness must survive at least one attack, take it casualty shots and then choose to retreat before assault gets that chance. It has to move to a joint territory and it cannot escape by a transport. Personally, that’s how I would do it.

RE: Aggressive Russian Strategy
At least your guys problem is different from mine. The people I play with are smart enough to change tactics when needed but because I have spent 20 years playing with them, we all know each others plans and that gets boring. I actually forced everyone including myself to play a different country just to see a different game.

RE: Broken cruisers let's fix it
Honestly, I am surprised the PT boat wasn’t added in the game to act like an AA gun.

RE: Should we make better rules for invadable neutrals? (1940)
I thought about giving neutrals units and factories on crack. I wanted to change the neutrals to be more power thus making Switzerland, Turkey, and Sweden the most powerful neutrals to invaded. I mean everything. Infantry, tanks, aircraft, naval, and factories and try to match how close they are to real life. I always found it stupid that Argentina getting invaded would drag Afghanistan into war. Doesn’t make sense. My idea of neutrals is to remove them from being single territory. I thought about building each continent the same size as a regular AnA board. As far as what happens to neutrals if they don’t get conquered is difficult to work with. G40 rules states that their military just sits as is. I thought about the nation that they were closes to will join that nation automatically or even go as far as making them their own faction.

RE: Lend Lease
Try this house rule I used to do. US and UK can attach money or units to transports, the transport is no different than any other transports in the rule. It has to be sent to a Soviet factory before the money or unit can be used. The transport is allowed to land the units anywhere they want to. The money moves only one space per turn or two if it is attached to a tank or mech. Once that unit gets to the factory, the money is now USSR and the unit is converted to Soviet use. Aircraft is allowed to be attached to a transport but it only moves one space. Naval units are NOT allowed for balance. If the money and/or units get captured on their territory, they become axis. Thoughts on this?

RE: G40: Sicily connected to Southern Italy.
And that would reflect what the Allies actually did in 43 when they invaded Italy via Sicily.

RE: Japan vs. Russia
I think the Mongolian rule should be changed. I can see an USSR player taking 30 ICP and just using it against Germany. Change it to any Soviet territory that becomes attacked by Japan, every single Mongolian territory has two infantry and joins USSR and each territory is worth 1 ICP which gets added to USSR.

RE: Aggressive Russian Strategy
Honestly, you’re going to have to sit him down and just train him by playing training games with him. I have a buddy who is the exact opposite of your friend. He loves land warfare but doesn’t have a clue with navy. He usually plays Germany which is no issue with a land force but every time he plays as Japan, his navy gets whipped and he loses easy in the Pacific. He owns the original version, I am kind of worried about having him play G40 but I am usually an allied power.

RE: Canada as the 7th ally
I have idea’s that I’m tossing around. Brazil earn its right to be its own power. Their navy did engage the Kreigsmarine and their army fought in Italy. Just ideas but I believe I can get Canada to work in G40.

RE: Aggressive Russian Strategy
Exactly. Germany should only build the Graf Zepplin and even that’s questionable as you can Sealion fights from France.

RE: Aggressive Russian Strategy
From what I have seen in G40, it is safe for Germany to spend turn 1 money exclusively on navy without wasting time if your end goal is Moscow. As I said, he did it because he knew that at some point, US was going to fleet to Norway which he did. What bugged my mind was the fact that he did it again on turn 2 and launched an invasion of USSR on turn 4 WITHOUT bringing in any Italy forces until turn 8. That made me and my ally jump for joy.

RE: Aggressive Russian Strategy
Russian navy, that is a crazy concept to do. I only once massed a Red Fleet and I did it because the Nazi’s decided to mass one of the largest surface fleets I have ever seen to do Sealion. It failed horrible because we all had to play very different. This was original version. Try to picture all three allied surface fleets off London.

RE: Canada as the 7th ally
I never said my plan was perfect. I thought about doing a completely new map that takes 6-8 boards just so I can make Brazil, Hungary, and Romania its own power. Like I said, I am working on it. I agree Canada would need a boost in territory value, maybe give all their territories a value or increase current. France moves first means that France is the first player to move before Germany instead of last. This allows France to stay in the fight, gives Axis more difficulty because as G40 stands, unless Germany ignores France or they send a weak assault on Paris. France will always fall.
