    • RE: Worst Rule Distortions and Misinterpretations

Issues that stem from us is the fact we started with the original Axis and Allies and all the rule changes that followed in the coming version such as losing the ability to invade neutral nations, we used to keep that rule without researching new ones.

A big issues that seems to come up is a friend of mine who usually plays as Germany can’t seem to get it into his head that you can travel from east to west or west to east on the board and doesn’t understand this is allowed as we are playing a 2D game as if it was 3D.

    • RE: Axis and Allies expansion?

On a somewhat related note, I saw someone do an awesome Soviet vs Allies in 1950 for 1940 gen. 2 setup and it was pretty cleaver. It set as USSR and China vs US, UK, and France.

I think a lot of players would agree that French Indo China would be better for UK to put a factory on and that depends on the state of UK’s economy. Let’s assume you’re playing the rules stated, then any factory outside India is useless because UK can easily be defeated by Japan. Now let’s say you play house rules and merge UK economy into one, then FIC may be better but you will lose that once France is liberated.

    • RE: The Inherent Problem with Axis and Allies

The point I am trying to make is that if the allies are not pushing into capitals, it’s because those players are being too conservative when they don’t need to be. Even though if you have allies knocking on your door, I am pointing out the purpose of refusing to surrender is pointless and just stalls the game to prove a point which I make by making you force your hand to win. I do this in Axis and Allies, I do this in RTS games. OP is trying to point out a problem that simply doesn’t exist.

In old school Axis and Allies, this was a problem as I was once Japan and Germany was captured outright so before the big push against the Japanese, I just began to stack infantry on the home island until I couldn’t any more. I had around 78 infantry and refused to surrender until they beat it down to the ground.

Just do what I do. I force the enemy to completely defeat me. This is easy to do if you’re an island nation or the US.

Exactly. If you’re knocking on Axis home land, in no way shape or form can the Allies powers NOT capture Axis capitals unless the Allies play very badly or somehow Axis are getting insane rolls, you basically have the game in the bag.

    • RE: The Inherent Problem with Axis and Allies

The problem is that you can’t fix what would of happened in real life. Your issue with Germany and Italy doesn’t happen in the games. If UK and US are in France with France as a returned power and USSR in Poland. Both allied factions will take turns attacking Germany, true Germany will not have any power to launch an invasion but USSR and the West will take turns seeing who captures Berlin. Japan however cannot escape her fate. You basically will have to naval bombard and air strike the hell out of that island or being a massive invasion force, no way around it. However, very rarely does the Axis powers play a game to the last man, usually when their fate is sealed, they just surrender.

I never really liked the idea of Japanese declaration against the US on turn 1 only because it is better to see which side of the ocean USA thinks is going to be worse.

    • RE: Legal or not?

The only issue with Italian Can Opening is that Italy being the poorest major power in the game either has to focus on controlling the Med against UK and France, or can open for Germany. And I honestly prefer the idea of Italy dealing with the allies’ naval power.

    • RE: Asymmetric Declarations of War - Strategy?

I can’t say the best plans as Axis as I am usually USSR when I play but when you use the term Asymmetric Warfare, you do know that means when two armies that are not equal fight each other like a professional army vs a militia would be an example for Asymmetric Warfare.

    • RE: Legal or not?

      @Frederick:

Okay so when Germany declared war on me the units in Eastern Poland attacked my one inf there. If this move is legal, I wonder if there could be an interesting strategy where Italy takes Soviet territory and Germany moves their units in the occupied territories (Just a interesting thought).

That’s literally the standard Italian Can Opening move where Italy attacks Soviet territories so German forces and get in without losing forces. USSR will always fall to axis forces if they don’t receive help from the other allies.

    • RE: Legal or not?

I know you can by pass peaceful navies to get another enemy in the same square but I am pretty sure this isn’t true with land forces. If the territory is controlled by Italy with German forces on it, Soviet forces attacking the territory would have to remove German forces in order to secure it as Germany and Italy are allies and are at war, just not with the Soviets at the same time. By the logic, the territory would of then turned German with Soviets clearing Italy out. So I am pretty sure this was an illegal move.

    • RE: Legal or not?

If you attack a territory that is occupied by any possible enemy, you should of been at war before you could legally attacked because in order to take it, you would have to remove anyone else on it.

    • RE: Curious about a rule

This was a rule that was added because of the Axis advantage in earlier games being able to bridge. From Italy to Africa and Japan to Korea, the axis had great advantage with that plus a defense of 1 so I assume transports at 0 forces the axis powers to actually commit a naval defense.

They only way you can work a sniper rule is if you draw a new unit that can ONLY hit infantry.

    • RE: Active Theaters on a Middle-weight A&A Map

IF their was a program that could let you easily do it, I would sit down and take the time to draw a 1936 map for Axis and Allies. You may wonder why 1936, it is so we can see Italy invade Ethiopia and Japan invade Korea. I also want to do it is because I want to make both the US and USSR a wild card in Axis and Allies, set up different NO for different outcomes and see what players do to get who on what side.

    • RE: Active Theaters on a Middle-weight A&A Map

My entire point is that you should set the map up to reflect history even though 99% of your games are NOT going to follow WWII to a T. For example, I really hope they get around to making a 1937 or 1939 global game and try to reflect it as possible and even to go as far as setting up NO that could change history. Example, image the situation if France and UK did send forced into Finland to help them against USSR and Stalin requested Hitler to join him? Image if UK and France decided to invade Germany when they invaded Poland? Image if USSR lost the battles in Mongolia? I would like to see something along those lines.
