A group of us are looking for clarification on the Dutch East Indies in 1940 Global Second Edition. We play the board game, but now have the softwear TripleA game version.

As Japan, one of our members is able to invade Dutch East Indies without a DoW on England in the non-combat movement phase. as though it were a minor neutral with no forces.  Is this working as intended?

My understanding is that for Japan to invade DEI, a DoW on England and Australia must be in place.

No, Japan must be at war with UK/ANZ to attack Dutch Territories

Yes.  Only UK/ANZ politics are coupled and inseparable.

Thank you very much, Gamerman, can you point to where I can refer to this at? This is my understanding of DEI, but there is a softwear game which apparently allows Japan to invade DEI on non-combat without DoE on England and Australia, as though it were a strict neutral. I have not been able to find clarification to DEI as yet…?

Back when I was a kid and I had Axis and Allies, didn’t have many that were that into it back then… I would play solitaire, lol. I would force myself to play each country in the best possible way for that country. I think I was 12 or 13. Good luck!

No. The strict neutrals stay strict neutral until one side attacks a strict neutral, at that point they all become pro-‘the other side’.

Quick Question if I may …. does a power have to control both Gibraltar and Morocco in order to pass through the straights? Do they have to control either side as in Suez? I just need a refresher on this.

EDIT: found my answer thank you… ((only have to control Gibraltar))

I will be participating in a Global 1940 game as the USA, Russia, and France (we’ve been wrapping the third player with these three nations) and am seeking some advice on strategy.

I have usually played as England or Germany in prior games, but not as America.

As I have considered options, I am curious as to whether or not to build a minor factory in the Philippines or Alaska as staging grounds?  Lately in our games America seems to be attacked very last by the Axis so is rarely brought into the game early.

Thoughts?
