A J1 attack will leave Japan with very few ground units on mainland Asia. If the U.K. builds as many ground units a turn as possible, Japan will run out of ground units trying to reach India. The key to this is China. China should hold the Burma Road if possible, but if Japan seems short on ground units, they should swing north and try to push Japan back there. That will force Japan to commit resources where it doesn’t want to.

I don’t think you’ve ever given an answer to anyone who has asked you what the Allies are doing in all of your games. And yes, I have tried a J1 attack. We weren’t able to finish the game, and Japan was ahead when we quit, but it was a much closer game then the game where I attacked J2.

I too got an envelope containing 6 Japanese tac bombers.

I believe this rule has been the same for Classic, Revised, AA50, and AA42.

You never have given an explanation of what the Allies are doing to counter Japan and just make constant claims that the game is unbalanced. I’ve only played a few games and so far I think the Allies have a slight edge, but it’s too early to tell.

RE: Cruisers?posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
A cruiser and destroyer have the same odds of missing as a battleship. A battleship should miss 1/3 of the time, and a destroyer and cruiser should also miss 1/3 of the time.
2/3 x 1/2 = 2/6 = 1/3 chance of missing
However, in addition to anti-sub capabilities, the cruiser and destroyer combo have another advantage: there is a 1/6 chance of getting 2 hits in the same round of combat.
1/3 x 1/2 = 1/6 chance of getting 2 hits

Are you trying to build capital ships as the U.S. or are you buying destroyers and subs? And are you buying mostly infantry as Britain? What is your strategy with China?

Ok, then I must be thinking of a different battle.

RE: Non-Aggresion Treatyposted in House Rules
There could be an economic penalty for the side that breaks the treaty. For example, if Japan attacks originally Russian territory, the Russian’s get a 10 IPC NO. This objective lasts until Moscow is taken or Japan leaves all originally Russian territory. The NO could be reduced or eliminated when Germany meets certain conditions or after a set number of turns.

Is the U.K leaving fighters in India to serve as interceptors against you bombing raids, BigBadBruce? Also, what is the U.S. doing in your games?

RE: Getting extra pieces?posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
Here is a reply I got about the boxes:
We have let the Brand team know about these issues as well but there may not be replacement boxes manufactured for this issue.
Thank You
I just think that we should get higher quality components for a game this good.

RE: Has anybody won as the Allies??posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I’ve played two games so far, and won once as Japan and once as the Allies with 2 other people (I had Britain and China).

RE: Aleutian Islands crossingposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
If I recall correctly when the US recaptured the first of the two aleutian islands japan captured there were 8 US/Canadian casualties. There were no japanese casualties, there werent any there. All casualties were from friendly fire.
I believe you are correct.

I still don’t understand how you are taking the Philippines. Are you using the transport from Caroline Islands to bring two more infantry? Or are you sending the Formosa fighter and landing it on a carrier?
Also, what has the U.k. been building?

RE: Getting extra pieces?posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I had been asking about getting boxes with the correct set-up info and got this response:
What is incorrect regarding the set up information for the US and ANZAC forces?
Thank You
I stated the corrections in the errata, and got this reply:
We have let the Brand team know about these issues as well but there may not be replacement boxes manufactured for this issue.
Thank You
Now that we have gotten the battle strip and tac bomber issues handled, we should try to get new boxes from WOTC with correct set-up info on them.

MaherC, what are you putting into the Philippines and is the U.S. player keeping the fighter in the territory or is he scrambling it? Attacking with 2 infantry, 1 artillery, and 1 tank, Japan should have about a 34% chance of taking the territory if the fig doesn’t scramble.

If you posted your Allied moves here and left them open to criticism, other people may be able to help you beat Japan. I’m curious as to what you are doing do counter J1 attacks.

RE: Point-defence islands - Airbases and 'Neighbour' Islandsposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I considered doing this in my game as Britain, but I opted for ground units to hold at Burma and try to help China out. Building an airbase would severly limit the number of ground units you can build, and Japan can just drive toward India by land with a factory in Kwantung, or a couple minor factories.

RE: Getting extra pieces?posted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I just got this from WOTC:
We have placed an order for a replacement battle strip and will ship the replacement to you when we receive the corrected strips in which should be around February. I am also sending you a few extra Japanese tactical bombers now.
Thank You
Has anyone else gotten something saying that WOTC will send them more Japanese tac bombers?

Sorry if the wording was unclear, I meant any territory China controls.
