RE: Should you liberate France?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I would take Paris back just for the demoralise effect (only if it can be held). Simply because if i was the German player I would be gutted. Also my dice would more than likey become awful as the verbal abuse from my opponents would be horrendous.

RE: Japan sacking Egyptposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Sounds like a good surprise stratagy and could work along side a capture of the middle east to prevent the ‘spread of communism’ national objective and a successful FAST Wehrmacht campagin in the Soviet Union.
On the flipside Japan has completly surrenderd the Pacific to the US and Anzac, which in turn allows for a quicker Atlantic build up by the US and Britian.
Again depends on the strength of the players….

A G1 attack on Russia is doomed to fail without a strong Italy in the long run!

RE: Is it possible to win as the allies after sealion?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Hearing more and more often that taking London and/or India so early on (turn 3 or 4) is resulting in defeat for the Axis. Too much to fast? As a result the game is more open and this favors the Allies more as they have 6 nations (france makes it 7) to the axis 3 nations, which results in greater maneuverability and joint operations.
Currently playing a game in which the Japanese grabbed the DEI’s/Phillipines and Hong Kong all on turn 3, The allies where then able to pick off my split navy, forceing me to retreat to Japan to repair/reinforce on turn 4. Japan has 60+ IPCs but im currently under pressure as a result of expanding to fast.
To sum up, I feel the Axis need to expand quick, but going too fast leaves gaps which can be exploited by any good players. So after agreeing that the game is lost after Sealion, my mind is very much changed!

RE: Barbarossaposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I have noticed that you can keep the USSR player guessing where you are going to strike by careful management of troops, which is great a Germany because you will nearly always get the element of suprise, which in turn leads to the USSR making rash buys or poor moves as a result of panic 8-)

Just want an idea of players methods for assaulting the Eastern Front (where the real fighting took place!)

RE: Sealion vs. Barbarossaposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
It has to be Barbarossa!
More skill + art combined. Sealion feels like a cheat move to me. Anyone can do it, and then it comes down to dice. Oooh, how fun. If you want a dice game, just go out in the parking lot and chuck some dice on the pavement.
Barbarossa is a dance of death with Russia… mobility + smart and timely purchases + deliberate and methodical aggression + wise Italian play = an amazing amount of fun, and a longer game. Win or lose.
Sealion = “I just want to win”.
Barbarossa = “I want to create a masterpiece as I attempt to win”.
So very true
Two very different experiences.

RE: Franceposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
France get annihilated in every game the only useful thing they have is 2 or 3 boats and a fighter after Paris falls which happens at the begining of every game.

If Germanys takes London, USSR should be advancing into the Balkans (lots of IPCs down there for the USSR) away from the German Factories and transport fleet. Micro management of stacks is very important here from a Soviet point of view!

RE: Old British NO still usable?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Yea Enemy Sub NO was a good one. Think we will include it as a house rule after all it was Britians life line for the war effort.

RE: Sealion vs. Barbarossaposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Barbarossa all the way, if you take London thats great, you still need two Russian victory cities or three depending on how the Italians are doing with Cario. Plus the fact that you have to spend big on the transports for sealion you effectivly give the USSR a huge advantage in terms of man power on the eastern front.
