      I think I know what hits are… but what are pips and skews?

      Even though I’m an admitted noob to some aspects of this game its been my experience that this whole game hangs on small margins like this.

      What’s the small margin? The fact you save more than half an infantry? Or the fact you have a minimally better skew at some distant battle? Don’t count on small margins when the big ones aren’t mastered… Remember, hits > pips > skew, in that order and no other.

      I must say I am following this thread with much interest and both sides are opening my mind to whole new ways of thinking.  While I have a tendency to agree with those that believe that the time of the tank is not yet over I’ll be very interested to see how the game plays out under both types of play.  I believe it will be most important in the German/Russian battles.

      @HolKann:

      @calvinhobbesliker:

      Inf, tank has more skew: the first hit takes out a 1 instead of 2

      Are you arguing this tiny advantage is worth 2 ipc’s? More like 0.2 if you ask me. So okay, you’ll win “only” 1.8 by using inf+rtl in transport instead of inf+arm.

      @Seven_Patch:

      Hi everyone,

      Been reading these forums for the last 8 months and have enjoyed everyones input.  Big thanks to djensen and everyone who have provided previews and screenshots for Europe 1940.  I can barely wait another 2 weeks for this game to come out.

      Regarding the global peice setup I would have loved it if they added more than just 18 Russian infantry on the pac side and 1 ANZAC inf on the eur side.  I think it is really fun when other nations are represented on both sides of the world.  Of course as Bruda mentions, gameplay has to be a big consideration.

      My house rules might add a Russion Destroyer and Sub.  A cruiser might disturb things in the Pacific too much.  I’ll probably also add 1 french infantry in FIC.

      I also think that the Italians might be too over powered in Africa, maybe another ANZAC infantry and another UK INF in Alexandria or Egypt might even it out a little.  Obviously I may have a different opinion when I play the game.

      I like the idea of adding to the UK/Anzacs in North Africa especially as it seems like the med will be cut off by neutral territories on one side and have restricted access through the straights of Gibralta on the other side making it very hard to get allied re enforcements into the area.

      I sometimes think that details like this come down to a question of balance for the game.  I’d rather have a game that was lacking in some of the historical detail but was more fun to play than a game that was very historically accurate but was a walk over for one side over the other.

      David… I agree with all the rest.  THANKS so much for the effort you put into putting all this stuff online.  I hope WOTC appreciate how much you’ve heightened the anticipation for this game to all the arm chair generals out there.

    • RE: J1 attack on Russia in Global

      It sounds good… the only weak part is that it relies on the Russian player to be complacent.  I would imagine that you would get someone once with that but probably not twice.  Other than that it sounds like a pretty good plan for all the points you mentioned.

      Does anyone seriously try a kill Japan first strategy?  It seems like that would be tough to pull off.

      ok I know this will make me look dumb but what does KGF and KJF stand for.  Other than that I really liked what you had to say and I’m really looking forward to the global game.  I’ve been reading alot on these forums that people want to play AAE40 first before they play the global game so they can get used to the strategies of it before they play the global game.  IMO this is a mistake because (for the reasons you mentioned) the global game will require strategies that are unique to the global game.  I think that the global game will be so different (at least strategy wise) from AAE40 and AAP40 that it will be a different game altogether.  I love it when I can get 3 games for the price of 2.

      @Imperious:

      My favorite character was the ‘skipper’ who was killed in last weeks episode  :x He was alot like Sgt. Saunders. The episodes don’t need to show people having sex to convey the shenanigans going on behind the lines.

      He was my favorite character also… it was disturbing to see him crack at the end.

      It was actually Gunnery Sgt Pop Haney that cracked at that end.  The capt. that was killed was Andrew “Ack Ack” Haldane.  In his book “With the Old Breed” E. B. Sledge recorded that when Capt. Haldane was killed he felt that the last of the old breed was gone.
